  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the difference of surface roughness of composite resin according to composite resin type, polishing methods, and use of resin sealant. Two hundred rectangular specimens, sized $8{\times}3{\times}2mm$, were made of Micro-new (Bisco, Inc., Schaumburg, IL, U.S.A) and Filtek Supreme (3M ESPE Dental Products, St. Paul, MN, U.S.A.), and divided into two groups; Micronew-M group, Filtek Supreme-S group. Specimens for each composite group were subdivided into five groups by finishing and polishing instruments used; M1 & S1(polyester strip), M2 & S2 (Sof-Lex disc), M3 & S3 (Enhance disc and polishing paste), M4 & S4(Astropol) and M5 & S5 (finishing bur), Polished groups were added letter B after the application of resin surface sealant (Biscover), eg, M1B and S1B. After specimens were stored with distilled water for 24hr, average surface roughness (Ra) was taken using a surface roughness tester. Representative specimens of each group were examined by FE-SEM (S-4700: Hitachi High Technologies Co., Tokyo, Japan). The data were analysed using paired t-test, ANOVA and Duncan's tests at the 0.05 probability level. The results of this study were as follows ; 1. The lowest Ra was achieved in all groups using polyester strip and the highest Ra was achieved in M5, S5 and M5B groups using finishing bur. On FE-SEM, M1 and S1 groups provided the smoothest surfaces, M5 and S5 groups were presented the roughest surfaces and voids by debonding of filler on the polished specimens. 2. There was no significant difference in Ra between Micronew and Filtek Supreme before the application of resin sealant, but Micronew was smoother than Filek Supreme after the application of resin sealant. 3. There was significant corelation between Ra of type of composite resin and polishing methods before the application of resin sealant (p=0.000), but no significant interaction between them after the application of resin sealant. On FE-SEM, most of composite resin surfaces were smooth after the application of resin sealant on the polished specimens. 4. Compared with before and after the application of resin sealant in group treated in the same composite and polishing methods, Ra of M4B and M5B was statistically lower than that of M4 and M5, and S5B was lower than that of S5, respectively (p<0.05). In conclusion, surface roughness by polishing instruments was different according to type of composite resin. Overall, polyester strip produced the smoothest surface, but finishing bur produced the roughest surface. Application of resin sealant provided the smooth surfaces in specimens polished with Enhance, Astropol and finishing bur, but not provided them in specimens polished with Sof-Lex disc.

  • Using two japonica rice cultivars (Ilpumbyeo and Sanghaehyanghyella), which are distinguishable by the brown planthopper (BHP) resistance maker (R208), a relationship between the BPH resistance gene (Os-Bil) and salt-tolerance was investigated. To do this, changes in the expression level of Os-Bil by the salt stress were quantified by the real-time PCR in the two cultivars, and compared with those in other two indica rice cultivars (Pokkali and IR29). In Ilpumbyeo, the expression level of Os-Bil decreased by the treatments of 50 and 200 mM NaCl in a concentration-dependent manner, and in Sanghaehyanghyella it rather increased slightly at 50 mM but decreased drastically at 200 mM. Comparably, IR29, a salt-sensitive cultivar, showed a reduction of the Os-Bil gene expression after the treatment of 100 mM NaCl, but Pokkali, a salt-tolerance cultivar, rather increased about two times in the level of Os-Bil transcripts. These results suggest that the BPH resistance gene may involve in the difference in the salt-tolerance at least between the two indica rice cultivars.

  • With the growth of Internet-of-Things (IoT) technologies, the number of IoT devices developers need to manage has increased exponentially. Many IoT standards have been proposed to allow those devices to communicate efficiently in day-to-day tasks. However, we lack trusted interworking entities for devices from different standards to collaborate securely. This paper proposes a blockchain platform that bridges multiple heterogeneous IoT platforms to co-exist and interwork. Specifically, we designed an interworking proxy application entity (IPE) implemented as a chaincode in Hyperledger Fabric to collect and process data coming from/to oneM2M and LWM2M architecture. The use of blockchain will guarantee network reliability and data integrity so that cross-standard communications can be audited and processed securely. Based on our evaluation, we show that the interworking between oneM2M and LWM2M through our blockchain platform is feasible. Furthermore, the proposed system can process up to 206 transactions per second with 1,000 running applications, which is about an 87% increase from the previously referenced study.

  • This study was conducted to investigate methane emission among nitrogen fertilizers in paddy soil(Jeonbug series, occurring on fluvio-alluvial plain). The application rates of rice straw was $5,000kg\;ha^{-1}$ with $110kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ as chemical fertilizer. It was found that the methane flux tended to be lower in ammonium sulfate than in urea and latex coated urea(LCU). The seasonal variations of the methane emission flux was high during the heading stage of the rice plant. Methane concentration in the soil solution was the highest at 5cm depth, but decreased with upper and lower depth. Methane emission under rice straw application was $0.265g\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$ by urea application. $0.207g\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$ by ammonium sulfate application, $0.318g\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$ by latex coated urea(LCU) application while methane emission under non rice straw application was $0.192g\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$ by urea application, $0.165g\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$ by ammonium sulfate application, $0.179g\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$ by latex coated urea(LCU) application.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of growth regulators and $GeO_2$ on the induction and proliferation of callus and the effect of $GeO_2$ and citric acid on the Ge content of callus from explants and plant, Angelica koreana Max. The results obtained were summarized as follows. The callus induction was most effective on MS (Murashige and Skoog) medium containing 1. 0ppm 2, 4 - D with petiolule. The proliferation of callus was most effective at 2. 0ppm 2, 4 - D on the medium, at 2. 5ppm $GeO_2$ on the medium containing 2. 0ppm 2, 4 - D, and at $0.\;1{\sim}1mM$citric acid on the medium at pH6 containing 2. 0ppm 2, 4 - D and 2. 5ppm $GeO_2.$ The more $GeO_2$ in MS medium up to 20ppm, the more Ge content in callus. Ge content in callus was highest when the medium was supplemented with 0. 1mM citric acid and the pH of medium was low. The Ge content in plant was high in order of leaf > root > stem. Application $GeO_2$ to the soil increased Ge content in plant and application of 1mM citric acid with $GeO_2$ resulted in increasing Ge content highest in plant, but application more than l0mM citric acid resulted in Ge content decreased. Application of $GeO_2$ increased Ge content in callus and plant but had a tendency to decrease some mineral content, on the other hand application of $0.\;1{\sim}1mM$ citric acid with $GeO_2$ had a tendency to increase mineral content.

  • This study was conducted to identify the effects of slow release fertilizer (LCU) on ridge direct seeding on dry paddy of rice as an irrigation water-saying cultural system. During 1999-2000, a series of experiments was carried out at field (Chonbuk series) of the National Honam Agricultural Experiment Station, RDA using Dongjinbyeo. Plant height and culm length during the total growth duration were the longest and panicle umber per $m^2$ was the highest in 100% LCU application rate. Leaf area index and top dry weight were the highest in the 100% LCU application rate. They increased as more LCU was applied. Nitrogen uptake was the highest in 100% LCU application, and N use efficiency was the highest in LCU 60% + FP (fertilization at panicle formation stage) 20% application. Milled rice yield was 7% higher in 100% LCU application rate than that of conventional N application. Ripened grain rate and 1,000-grain weight of brown rice did not differ, but panicle number per $m^2$ and grain number per m2 were the highest at 100% LCU application.
