The purpose of this study was to observe the anodic polarization curve from 4 kinds of low copper amalgam (Fine cut alloy, Spheralloy, Aristalloy and Amalcap) and 4 kinds of high copper amalgam (Dispersalloy, Sybraloy Orosphere and Tytin) obtained by using the potentiostat. The specimen made as the direction of manufacturer was stored at room temperature for about 7 days. The standard surface preparation was routinely carried out. The 0.9% saline solution was used as electrolyte in pH 6.8-7.0 at $37^{\circ}C$. The open circuit potential was determined after 30 minutes' immersion of specimen. The scan rate was 1mV/sec and the surface area of amalgam exposed to the solution was 0.785$cm^2$ for each specimen. All potentials reported are with respect to Ag/AgCl eelctrode. The following results were obtained. 1. The corrosion potential of high copper amalgams was higher than one of low copper amalgams, and the current density of high copper amalgam was lower than one of low copper amalgams. 2. The low copper amalgams had the similar pattern of polarization curve, but the high copper amalgams had the different pattern one another. 3. The polarization curve of Orosphere amalgam which is the admixed type was similar to one of low copper amalgam.
MOGABA is a project monitoring of gamma-ray bright AGN(Active Galactic Nuclei). Since May 2011, we have observed total flux, degree of linear polarization, and polarization angle of about twenty AGN once a week at 22, 43 and 86GHz using KVN(Korean VLBI Network) 21m radio telescopes. We have observed variation of total flux of BLLAC and OJ287 from May 2011 to March 2012. We have observed flares of total flux at 22GHz for those sources from October 2011 to November 2011. In this paper we report the variation of total flux, degree of linear polarization and polarization angle at 22, 43, 86GHz for BLLAC and OJ287.
The experimental studies were carried out on ultrafiltration of PEG #6000 and dextran 70T macromole¬cules. using an asymmetric cellulose acetate membrane in a cross flow plane type cell. Effects of pressure difference. feed concentration were studied on permeate flux and observed rejection for both the macromole¬cules. and the concentration polarization layer resistance $R_{b1}$ on permeate flux was analysed. The concentration polarization layer resistance $R_{b1}$ was correlated with the average macromolecule concen¬tration $C_{b1}$ in polarization layer. The resulting dimensionless correlation was expressed as : $\frac{R_{b1}}{{R_m}}=\alpha[\frac{\rho_{b1}}{C_{b1}}]^\beta$
This work examines the characterization and corrosion behaviour of laser alloyed UNSG10150 steel with three different premixed composition Zn-Sn binary powders using a 4.4 kW continuous wave (CW) Rofin Sinar Nd:YAG laser processing system. The steel alloyed samples were cut to corrosion coupons, immersed in sulphuric acid (0.5 M H2SO4) solution at 30℃ using electrochemical technique and investigated for its corrosion behaviour. The morphologies and microstructures of the developed coated and uncoated samples were characterized by Optic Nikon Optical microscope (OPM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM/EDS). Moreover, X-ray diffractometer (XRD) was used to identify the phases present. An enhancement of 2.7-times the hardness of the steel substrate was achieved in sample A1 which may be attributed to the fine microstructure, dislocations and the high degree of saturation of solid solution brought by the high scanning speed. At scanning speed of 0.8 m/min, sample A1 exhibited the highest polarization resistance Rp (1081678 Ωcm2 ), lowest corrosion current density icorr (4.81×10−8A/cm2 ), and lowest corrosion rate Cr (0.0005 mm/year) in 0.5 M H2SO4. The polarization resistance Rp (1081678 Ωcm2 ) is 67,813-times the polarization of the UNSG10150 substrate and 99.9972% reduction in the corrosion rate.
In this paper, (P $b_{1-x}$ L $a_{x}$)(Z $r_{0.52}$$Ti_{0.48}$) $O_{3}$ (X=0-13[at%]) thin film were prepared by the Sol-Gel method, Multiple PLZT thin films were spin-coated on the Pt/Ti/ $SiO_{2}$Si substrate. The electrical properties of the films were investigated for varying the annealing temperature. In the PLZT(11/52/48) specimens, the dielectric ocnstant of 1236 and the polarization reversal time of 460[nm] were obtained and the breakdown of the film did not occur up to 1*10$^{10}$ cycles at the voltage of 7[V] by the bipolar acceleration. The remanent polarization and coercive field decreased with increasing the content of La in the range of 0-13[at%] and thin film of the PLZT(11/52/48) showed the value of 2.56[.mu.C/c $m^{2}$] and 21.1[kV/cm], respectively.ly.y.
We have demonstrated the wavelength tunable ultrashort pulse fiber ring laser proposed the novel method for measuring the cavity loss from relaxation oscillation frequency and the pump power. To suppress the polarization instability the laser cavity is configured with polarization maintaining fibers and to control the center wavelength a 2.4 nm bandwidth tunable wavelength filter was inserted in the cavity. The laser has 8 picosecond pulse width, 10 GHz repetition rate and 1.2 mW average power in 1530-1560 nm operation range.
Fuel cells of proton exchange membrane type (PEMFC) working with hydrogen in the anode and ambient air in the cathode ('air breathing') have been prepared and characterized. The cells have been studied with variable thickness of the cathode catalyst layer ($L_{CL}$), maintaining constant the platinum and ionomer loads. Polarization curves and electrochemical active area measurements have been carried out. The polarization curves are analyzed in terms of a model for a flooded passive air breathing cathode. The analysis shows that $L_{CL}$ affects to electrochemical kinetics and mass transport processes inside the electrode, as reflected by two parameters of the polarization curves: the Tafel slope and the internal resistance. The observed decrease in Tafel slope with decreasing $L_{CL}$ shows improvements in the oxygen reduction kinetics which we attribute to changes in the catalyst layer structure. A decrease in the internal resistance with $L_{CL}$ is attributed to lower protonic resistance of thinner catalyst layers, although the observed decrease is lower than expected probably because the electronic conduction starts to be hindered by more hydrophilic character and thicker ionomer film.
Inflammation is a protective response to infection or injury. However, prolonged inflammation can contribute to the pathogenesis of many diseases, such as cancer, diabetes, arthritis, atherosclerosis, and Alzheimer's disease. Recent studies have shown that activated macrophages, inflammatory effector cells, can react to tissue insults in a polarized manner, in which their phenotypes are polarized into two major subtypes, categorized as M1 or M2. Classical M1 activation involves the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin (IL)-6 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-${\alpha}$, and free radicals, while M2 or alternative activation is an anti-inflammatory phenotype involved in homeostatic processes, such as wound healing, debris scavenging, and the dampening of inflammation via the production of very low levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and high levels of anti-inflammatory mediators, including IL-10. As part of our ongoing effort to isolate anti-inflammatory compounds from seaweeds, we investigated the effects of phlorotannins isolated from the brown alga Ecklonia stolonifera on macrophage polarization. Mouse peritoneal macrophages were treated with various concentrations of the extracts, and real-time RT-PCR analyses were performed to examine the expression of polarization markers: IL-$1{\beta}$, IL-6, and TNF-${\alpha}$ for M1 and arginase-1, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)-${\gamma}$, found inflammatory zone-1 (Fizz-1), chitinase 3-like 3 (Ym1), and$Kr{\ddot{u}}ppel$-like factor 4 (Klf-4) for M2. The pretreatment of cells with eckol, dieckol, and phlorofucofuroeckol-A (PFF-A), isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of E. stolonifera ethanolic extract, potentiated the anti-inflammatory M2 phenotype of the macrophages. These results indicate that phlorotannins derived from E. stolonifera can be used to enrich macrophages with markers of the M2 anti-inflammatory state.
Steady-state anodic and cathodic polarization curves were developed for the Al electrode in 60 mole %$AlCl_3$-40 mole % NaCl at $180^{\circ}C$$453^{\circ}K$). Ohmic resistance contributed substantially to the anodic polarization at current densities greater than 50 mA/$CM^2$ even with capillary tip placed close to the electrode. This could not be rationalized from the resistivity of the melt, which would lead to a much smaller polarization. It was therefore concluded that a layer of high resistance $AlCl_3$ (or $AlCl_3$-rich melt) formed close to the anode surface. From the IR-corrected anodic Tafel and Allen-Hickling plots an apparent anodic charge-transfer coefficient of ${\alpha}_a$ = (2.3 RT/F)(d log i/d${\eta}$) = $1.5{\pm}0.25$ was obtained. At cathodic current densities greater than approximately 30 mA/$cm^2$, slow ion diffusion and dendrite growth both interfered with the measurement of kinetic parameters.
The rapid thermal annealing effects of Sol-Gel derived ferroelectric PZT thin films were investigated. It was found that rapid thermal annealing(RTA) of spin coated thin films on silicon typically >$800^{\circ}C$ for about 1 min. was changed to the perovskite phase. Rapid thermally annealed films recorded maximum remanent polarization of about 5 .mu.C/cm$^{2}$, coercive field of around 30kV/cm. The switching time for polarization reversal was about 220ns. The films of RTA process showed smooth surface, and high breakdown voltages of over 1 MV/cm and resistivity of $1{\times}{10^12}$ .ohm.cm at 1 MV/cm. It was verified that the polarization reversal of the PZT film was varied partially with applying the multiple short pulse.
