  • This study focuses on the ongoing immersive Giga Media service platform technology developed by the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute(ETRI) for various projects of the Giga KOREA Foundation[1] to achieve a smart ICT environment including wireless-based Giga service by 2020. This technology enables an immersive realistic Tele-Experience service that supports immersive real-world interaction as if sharing one's surroundings in a particular location through a high-speed network among remote users. It is expected to contribute greatly to the activation of smart ICT.

  • The characterization of organic Metal/Insulator/Metal(MIM) devices were investigated from LB films. The physicochemical properties of the LB films were by UV absorption spectrum and AFM. We give pressure stimulation into organic thin films and then manufacture a device under the accumulation condition that the state surface pressure is 2, 10, 30[mN/ml The stable images are probably due to a strong interaction between the monolayer film and glass substrate. We are unable to obtain molecule resolution in images of the films but did see a marked contrast between images of the bare substrate and those with the network structure film deposited onto it.

  • In this paper, we developed the new non-rubbing liquid crystal (LC) alignment techniques in the cell with slanted non-polarized ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation on polyimide (PI) film. It is shown that the uniform alignment for nematic (N) LC is obtained by using slanted non-polarized UV light irradiation on PI surface. We successfully obtained that the pretilt angle of NLC is generated about 3.3 degree in the cell with slanted non-polarized UV light irradiation with 70 degree on PI surface, for the first time. It is considered that the pretilt angle generation in NLC is attributed to interaction between the LC molecular and the PI, which is broken the polymer by slanted non-polarized UV irradiation. Therefore, we concluded that the uniform LC alignment is attributed to anisotropic dispersion force due to photo depolymerization with slanted non-polarized UV light irradiation on PI surface.

  • The non-uniform pressure generated in the volute generally are propagating upstream. As a result, outlet conditions of rotaing impeller are changed and the performance degrades. The major object of this research is to develop the numerical method which can calculate the effects of impeller and volute flow field interactions. Under the assumption of steady three-dimensional incompressible turbulent flow, the time averaged N-S equations involving $k-{\epsilon}$ turbulent model was solved by the F.V.M. To verify the computational method, the calculations are compared with experimental results published in literature and show satisfactory agreement with them, The three-dimensional flow characteristics within the volute of a centrifugal fan at design and off-design operating points have also been studied.

  • A tumor suppressor, merlin is a member of ERM family proteins. It consists of N-terminal FERM domain, ${\alpha}-helical$ region, and C-terminal domain. Alternative splicing of merlin's mRNA generates two isotypes of merlin. Isotype I, which has exon17 at the C-terminus instead of exon16 in isotype II, is known to have tumor suppressor activity. Like other ERM proteins, the C-terminal domain of merlin isotype I interacts to its FERM domain. That of isotype II, however, was reported not to bind FERM domain despite the large common part of C-terminal domain, which possibly binds FERM domain. Here, we show the binding of FERM domain to both C-terminal domains of merlin's two isotypes by isothermal titration calorimetry. These results support that merlin isotype II also can form a closed conformation or a multimer by intramolecular or intermolecular interactions using their FERM domain and C-terminal domain.

  • In the design and operation of robot arms with flexible links, the equations of motion are required to exactly model the interaction between rigid motion and elastic motion and to be formulated efficiently. Thus, the flexible link is represented on the basis of the D-H rigid link represented to measure the elastic deformation. The equations of motion of robot arms, which are configured by the generalized coordinates of elastic and rigid degrees of freedom, are formulated by using F.E.M to model complex shaped links systematically and by eleminating elastic mode of higher order that does not largely affect option to reduce the number of elastic degree of freedom. Finally presented is the result of simulation to flexible robotic arm whose joints are controlled by direct or PD control.

  • A hybrid method with supercompact multiwavelets is suggested as an efficient and practical method to compress CFD dataset. Supercompact multiwavelets provide various advantages such as compact support and orthogonality in CFD data compression. The compactness is a crucial condition for approximated representation of CFD data to avoid unnecessary interaction between remotely spaced data across various singularities such as shock and vortices. But the supercompact multiwavelet method has to fit the CFD grid size to a product of integer and power of two, m${\times}$2$^n$. To resolve this problem, the hybrid method with combination of 3, 2 and 1 dimensional version of wavelets is studied. With the hybrid method, any arbitrary size can be handled without any shrinkage or expansion of the original problem. The presented method allows high data compression ratio for fluid simulation data. Several numerical tests substantiate large data compression ratios for flow field simulation successfully.

  • CNT paste was fabricated by mixture of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) powder, organic vehicles and inorganic binder. Then firing process was performed at different temperature under air and $N_{2}$ atmosphere. It was found that emission property of CNT paste was changed by firing temperature and time due to interaction between remained resins and CNT powder. We obtained good emission property from CNT paste treated at $350^{\circ}C$ for 10 min.

  • Gasoline engine manufacturers are currently considering designs that will result in low combustion air temperature for improvement of fuel consumption and emission levels. There are a variety of cooling systems that can be used to accomplish this goal. Cooling is therefore normally achieved through a balance of ram and fan action. This paper studies the various systems and compare the cooling performance for several conditions, based on a automotive engine. An experimental analysis was developed to predict the interaction of the fan system and the heat exchangers of the engine cooling system. The local temperature induced by the fan on the cooling system is measured. These experimental result were accomplished using airflow management techniques.

  • The interaction between chemistry and turbulence is treated by employing the Representative Interactive Flamelet (RIF) Model. The detailed chemistry of 114 elementary steps and 44 chemical species is adopted for the n-heptane/air reaction. In order to account for the spatial inhomogeneity of the scalar dissipation rate, the multi-RIF is used. The effect of the number of RIF on ignition delay is discussed in detail. Numerical results indicate that the present RIF approach successfully predicts the ignition delay time as well as the essential features of a spray auto-ignition process.
