  • This paper presents the results of a study conducted to improve the understanding of the characteristics of cylindrical capsule flow in a pipeline by taking into account of the effect of capsule density uniformity. The effect of capsule density variation in the axial direction was studied both experimentally and analytically. The experiments were xonducted in a 190mm diameter straight pipe 18m long. The velocity, tilt of capsules and the gap between the capsule bottom and the pipe bottom were measured under various conditions. In order to interpret the data on the various capsule density conditions, the stability index given in the dimensionless numberwas introduced. The motion of capsules in pipelines is strongly affected by the stability of the capsules characterized by the stability index. The experiments conducted proved that the stability index is a valid criterion for explaining and correlating data on the capsule motion and the capsule density uniformity.

  • Photo-induced gratings m flexible PDMS (polydimethly siloxane) film are directly written by a high-intensity femtosecond (130fs) Ti: Sapphire laser (${\lambda}_p$ = 800nm). The refractive index modifications with $4\;{\mu}m$ diameters were photo-induced after the femtosecond irradiation with peak intensities of more than $1{\times}10^{11}W/cm^2$. The graded refractive index profile was fabricated to be a symmetric around the center of the point at which femtosecond laser by controlling both laser power and focused depth. The change on refractive index in the laser-modified regions was estimated to be approximately $10^{-3}$. The internal flexible symmetric diffraction gratings in PDMS film was successfully fabricated using a femtosecond laser.

  • Strength and displacement of jig body in index machine utilized for multiprocess machining such as drilling, boring and tapping, etc, at the same time were analyzed by the use of finite element analysis soft ware ANSYS 5.2A. The whole geometry was constructed by 4048 elements and 7016 nodes employing 8 node brick element. The analyses were carried out on five loading cases combining vertical and horizontal machining to simulate the case occurring large displacement and the one occurring small displacement one and provided following conclusions. (1) Jig body had sufficient strength because its safety factor was 6.95 even in the most severe loading case. (2) The largest displacement in Z direction was 549 m and that in radial direction was 43.7 m. (3) In order to reduce the displacement, vertical machining rather than horizontal or two or three processes should be adopted in the same station. (4) Alternate change of horizontal machining direction at consecutive stations can reduce the displace ment. (5) The dimension of the slider should be increased to reduce the displacement by the tolerance in the sliding part. (6) A bypass idle piston head needs to be installed to give a counterpart supporting load from opposite direction for a single horizontal machining case.

  • Seasonal variability in algal community structure of the subtidal zone was examined at four study sites on the southeastern coast of Korea from February to November 2016. A total of 81 species of algae (8 green, 12 brown, and 61 red) were indentified. During the study period, the greatest number of species was observed at Sinamri (57 species) followed by Daesongri (50 species), Dongbaekri (47 species) and Gangyangri (42 species). Of the six functional seaweed forms, the coarsely-branched form was the most dominant, accounting for about 43% of the total species at Daesongri. The annual average biomass in wet weight varied from $700.59g/m^2$ at Sinamri to $1,712.45g/m^2$ at Daesongri. The parameters of seaweed community structures were as follows: dominance index (DI), 0.30-0.54; richness index (R), 4.92-7.05; evenness index (J'), 0.54-0.72; and diversity index (H'), 2.05-2.91.

  • A sediment quality index (SQI) and a mean sediment quality guideline quotient (M-SQGQ) were applied for the assessment of sediment quality in Masan Bay, Korea where metals and organic pollutants are of concern. The SQI was calculated by two functions, 'scope' (the number of variables that do not meet guideline objective) and 'amplitude' (the magnitude by which variables exceed guideline objective), with six different sediment quality guideline values from Canada, USA and Australia/New Zealand. Categorization of sediment quality was on the basis of SQI scores. The SQI values were compared with six guideline values applied as well as with the M-SQGQs. The SQI values were severely influenced by a few variables of high exceedance in the degree of non-compliance. The SQI values were very dependent on both the numbers and values of guideline variables used in index caluculation. Nevertheless, the SQI could provide integrated and simplified information from a large number of chemical data set. It is required to further evaluate protocols and guideline applied for deriving SQI and to compare it with field based sediment toxicity test and ecosystem integrity.

  • The main purpose of this study was to gauge the patient satisfaction index and subsequently discuss the Importance-Performance (IP) matrix analysis of the inpatient services in the context of the private hospital setting. The Malaysian Customer Satisfaction Index Model was employed as the theoretical framework for the above purposes. This study involving 242 patients in Malaysian's private healthcare sector used a Web-based survey as the main method of data collection. Partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was utilized for data analysis. Using Fornell et al. (1996)'s formula, the resulting patient satisfaction index was slightly lower than the "very satisfied" category, the target level required for positioning as one of the world's premier medical tourism players. The IP matrix showed that medical quality is the main competitive advantage of the private hospitals that can propel their growth in the global healthcare marketplace. The results also indicate that outcome quality, patient rights, and privacy, and service quality are the three quality domains that need to be prioritized for further improvement. On the other hand, the servicescape quality domain needs to be strategized as the unique selling proposition as the performance of the private hospitals in this regard is already extremely good.

  • The refractive index of the laser interferometer is compensated using the simultaneously measured variations of room temperature and humidity in the method. In order to investigate the limit of compensation, the stationary test against two fixed reflectors mounted on the zerodur plate is performed firstly. From the experiment, it is confirmed that the measuring error of the laser interferometer can be improved from 0.12$\mu$m to 0.17$\mu$m by the application of the method. Secondly, for the verification of the compensating effect, it is applied to estimate the positioning accuracy of an ultra precision aerostatic stage. Two times of the refractive index compensation are performed to acquire the positioning error of the stage from the initially measured data, that is, to the initially measured positioning error and to the measured positioning error profile after the NC compensation. Although the positioning error of anaerostatic stage cannot be clarified perfectly, it is known that by the compensation method, the measuring error by the laser interferometer can be improved to within 0.15$\mu$m. • Screening of fifteen bivoltine silkworm breeds of Bombyx mori Linn at a temperature of $31{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ and relative humidity of 85${\pm}$5% resulted in the identification of eight thermo-tolerant breeds. The survival and cocoon shell ratio of the tolerant breeds ranged from 72.7 to 78.7% and 20.0 to 20.1% respectively. The tolerant breeds comprised of four oval breeds and four dumb-bell breeds. Eight foundation crosses prepared by crossing the oval and dumb-bell parents among themselves were screened at a temperature of $31{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ and relative humidity of 85{\pm}5%. The performance of the foundation crosses on 11 economic characters were analysed by employing Multipie Trait Evaluation Index method. Four foundation crosses which scored average index value > 50 were selected as breeding parents and breeding initiated for the evolution of thermo-tolerant bivoltine silkworm breeds. The methodology and the results of the foundation crosses reared both at 31{\pm}1$^{\circ}C$ and at $25{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ temperatures, are discussed.
