  • To obtain the system requirement specification in the beginning of the precision guidance and control system development, the effectiveness and reliability analysis for the system are necessary. The main purpose of this research is to obtain the system requirement specification by carrying out the effectiveness analysis using the modeling and simulation(M&S) scheme. M&S model is constructed using 6-DOF dynamic model, environment model, guidanc -navigation & control model. Assume that the navigation sensor is consist of inertial navigation sensor(INS) and doppler velocity log(DVL), and the speed and direction of current is environment parameter. The effectiveness analysis is carried out using circular error probability(CEP) and variance analyze scheme. Also, the effectiveness analysis is utilized for cost-performance analysis considering the cost of commercial INS and DVL sensor. This paper shows the high-level INS and the low-level DVL configure a high price-performance integrated navigation system.

  • This paper presents an SBA (simulation-based acquisition) effectiveness analysis environment using the RUP (Relational Unified Process) model. The RUP model has 4 phases which cover the whole development steps such as requirement analysis, design, development and test. By applying the RUP model, SW development can be represented with the iterations of developments for each phase. Such a characteristics of the model would make the model suitable for defense acquisition. In this paper, we show the relation between the RUP model and V process model, which is the foundation for defense acquisition. In order to show how the model could be applied to SBA effectiveness analysis, graphical user interfaces for the analysis are presented at the end of the paper.

  • It is important to establish the environment for cyber warrior training, testing support and effectiveness analysis in order to cope with sharply increasing cyber threat. However, those practices cannot be easily performed in real world and are followed with many constraints. In this paper, we propose a live/virtual M&S-based system for training/testing and constructive M&S-based system for effectiveness analysis to provide an environment similar to real world. These can be utilized to strengthen the capability to carry out cyber war and analyze the impact of cyber threat under the large-scale networks.

  • This paper analyses the effectiveness of Kill Chain (KC) and Korea Air and Missile Defense (KAMD), also known as the K2 systems, using monte carlo simulation. It is assumed that the K2 systems are consisted with unitary KC and multi-layered (upper-tier and lower-tier) KAMD. And each system has two or three arbitrary weapon systems and its combination makes 12 scenarios. Measures of effectiveness (MOE) of the K2 systems were defined as ratio of eliminated ballistic missiles from total threats. And total cost was calculated by number of weapon launched and its unit cost. MOE and total cost of the K2 systems were estimated using monte carlo simulation with a thousand iteration for each scenario. Cost-effectiveness analysis was performed and the best candidate was selected using fixed effectiveness approach. As a result, the performances of KC are prime factor that affects both effectiveness and total cost of the K2 systems. It is also, acquired proper level of lower-tier KAMD to achieve desired defense effectiveness. For future work, it needs to be performed cost-effectiveness analysis based on practical specification and life cycle cost of weapon systems.

  • Concerning the effectiveness of command and control is increasing worldwide as future warfare is changing into Network Centric Warfare (NCW). Unlike the old attrition warfare that depends mainly on mobility and strike assets, the modern warfare is based on information and network which regards acquisition and circulation of information as important. Therefore, there's no room for rediscussion that C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) system will play an important role in warfare. In spite of this fact, there isn't any way to explain clearly how to measure the effectiveness of command and control system in a battle and to reflect it systematically in a system effectiveness. In this study, we examined NCO-CF (Network Centric Operations-Conceptual Framework), developed by the Department of Defense (DOD), which can conceptually explain the increment of effectiveness of C4ISR system that is the basis of NCO. And we suggested methodology based on NCO-CF to establish the evaluation criteria for M&S analysis of command and control effectiveness. As a case study we derived the evaluation criteria for the command and control system in joint operations by applying the suggested methodology.

  • It is an important issue to evaluate the effectiveness of chemical warfare through modeling and simulation(M&S) technology. In this paper, we propose the M&S methodology and environment for the chemical warfare for effectiveness analysis. In detail, for modeling perspective, we propose three fundamental component models according to their behaviors, which are a chemical weapon, a detecting device system, and an engaging unit system. Among proposed models, the chemical weapon and the detecting device system models are represented by engineering-level system models, whereas the engaging unit system model are described as an engagement-level system model. For simulation perspective, we apply a hybrid simulation environment using High Level Architecture (HLA) to interoperate with the proposed engineering and engagement-level models. The proposed M&S methodology and environment enables to evaluate the effectiveness of the chemical warfare system considering the doctrines, the performance of device or weapon, and weather factors. To verify the efficiency of the proposed methodology and environment, we experimented three categorized case studies, which are related with those considering factors.

The main purpose of this research is to obtain the system requirement specification for the high speed unmanned underwater vehicles by carrying out the effectiveness analysis using the modeling and simulation scheme. The effectiveness is position error for target position. Reaching accuracy is expected to be affected by the navigation sensor parameter. Assume that the navigation sensors that is consist of inertial navigation system(INS) and doppler velocity log(DVL) is the parameter. To analyze the effectiveness of each parameter, Monte-Carlo numerical simulation is performed in this research. The effectiveness analysis is carried out using circular error probability(CEP) and variance analyze scheme. Considering the cost function, the specification of the navigation sensor is provided. The cost function is consist of the INS and DVL specification and the price of those sensors.

  • Increasing the total length of waveguide-below-cutoff array(WBCA) as it is used to the duct in order to enhance shielding effectiveness, the design could cause higher cost, higher levels of difficulties in construction and the interruption a flow velocity. The multi-layered WBCA can compensate for this problem, which can be designed by crossing each waveguide layer. By conducting simulations from 2-layer to 8-layer structure, it can be observed that the shielding effectiveness increases from 52 dB to 75 dB. Comparing with the original WBCA in a shape of mono layer rectangular, our proposed waveguide becomes similar with the original value as the number of crossing layer increases. In addition, the analysis with the flow of fluid in the duct installed multi-layered WBCA are required. We demonstrate this analysis by doing the flow of fluid simulation, and concluded that the multi-layered WBCA has loss of flow of fluid less than unit rectangular WBCA.
