고휘도 LED 광원을 사용하는 광색가변 기술에 관한 연구 (A study on color variable technique using high brightness LEDs)

  • This paper suggests a method of color variation technique to generate stable white light. The light from high brightness RGB LED was mixed according to the RGB LED luminance ratio. A microcontroller-based PWM control circuit and switching circuit is used to achieve full color variation. It is confirmed that the stable white light and full color variation is possible.

  • A selective reset waveform which can improve the dark room contrast ratio in a large sustain gap structure is suggested in this paper. When conventional selective reset discharge is performed, frequent unexpected misfiring happens because of high Vxb and much quantity of negative wall charge formed on Y electrode during final sustain period. The misfiring between sustain electrode and address electrode can be removed by lowering Vxb value and the misfiring between address electrode and scan electrode can be prevented by applying last sustain pulse of 40us and rectangular pulse of Vscan on Y electrode. When the selective reset waveform has one time reset per 8 subfields, black luminance of 1.55 cd/m2 can be obtained without any misfiring.

  • It was firstly found in 1st group element. Recently, it has been reported on the improvement of efficiency of the OLEDs by introducing thin layer of some carbonate materials of alkali metal. In order to improve the efficiency of OLEDs which is one of the next generation displays, we have studied the electrical characteristics of the device depending on the thickness ratio of the hole-injection layer to the electron-injection layer. Teflon-AF was used as the hole-injection material, and alkali-metal carbonates of $Li_2CO_3$ were used as the electron-injection materials. To obtain a proper thickness ratio, we manufactured. Four types of devices with the thickness ratio of HIL to EIL were made to be 1 : 4, 2 : 3, 3 : 2, and 4 : 1. The results of electrical and optical properties showed that the device with the thickness ratio of 4 : 1 is the most excellent result. In addition, to prepare a four-layer device by inserting the ${\alpha}$-NPD is a hole transporting material was compared with three-layer element. As a result, the maximum luminance, the maximum luminous efficiency, maximum external quantum efficiency of about 124 [%], 164 [%], 106 [%] improve was confirmed.

이종(異種) 광원 조합에 의한 복수 광원의 분광 방사특성과 광달(光達) 거리 및 집어등 운용방법 (Characteristics of Spectral Irradiance Based on the Distance from the Light Source and Operating Method for Fishing Lamps with a Combined Light Source)

  • Characteristics of spectral irradiance based on the distance from the light source, which combined metal halide lamp and high-luminance light-emitting diode (LED) light, were studied to investigate a suitable operating method for fishing lamps of the next generation. A 380-780 nm wavelength radiation was superior when using 1 W electrical power in the order of metal halide lamp, blue LED, white LED, and combined LED lights. The wavelengths at which the irradiance was at a maximum were fixed to 581 nm for the light source, which was combined for each ratio. If the irradiance characteristics at 300-1100 nm wavelengths were set as 100%, the irradiance rates at 400-599 nm were 100%, 72.7%, 88.9%, and 69.5% for the blue, white, combined LED lights, and metal halide lamp, respectively. This indicated that the color rendering of the LED lights was dependent on the metal halide lamp light source. When the horizontal profiles (450-550 nm wavelength) of irradiances were compared to a different type of light source in the ratio white LED: combined LED lights: blue LED: metal halide lamp, the irradiated area of more than $0.01\;{\mu}mol/s/m^2/nm$ was in the ratio 1.0 : 1.3 : 1.7 : 37.3, respectively. Based on the radiation characteristics and irradiance according to the distance from the light source, LED lights have an estimated economic efficiency if used before and after operation of a metal halide lamp.

디스플레이에서 조도와 대비비에 따른 가독성 비교 연구 (A Comparison of Legibility Based on Illumination Intensity and Contrast Ratio in Displays)

  • 사물을 분석하고 인지하는 분야에 해당하는 시지각은 시각의 생리학적인 측면과 시각체계의 인지적 측면에 대해 많은 연구가 이루어져 있으며 이를 바탕으로 설립된 시지각 이론이 각 분야별로 다양한 응용 가능성을 모색하고 있는 실정이다. 그러므로 뉴미디어 시대의 대표적 사례물 중 하나인 모바일 디스플레이가 강조되는 가운데, 시지각 연구를 기반으로 하여 보다 효용성 있는 시각적 인지 기반의 비중을 늘려야 한다는 인식이 본 연구의 기본적인 이해이다. 본 연구는 모바일 디스플레이를 대상으로 하여 조도와 배경의 밝기에 따른 가독성 관련 실험을 진행하고 이를 분석하였다. 이를 위해 두 가지 조건에 해당하는 조도의 환경 조건과 기존 모바일 디스플레이에서 가독성 향상 방안으로 제안되는 두 가지 배경의 밝기 조건을 대상으로 하여 가독성 관련 실험을 진행하였다. 본 연구에서 진행된 실험결과를 분석하여 조도와 배경의 밝기에 따른 가독성에 대해 유의미 여부를 정의하고 가독성 향상을 위한 방안을 제시한다.

  • 플라즈마 디스플레이 패널의 발광효율을 개선하기 위하여 sustain 구간의 파형을 변화시킨 새로운 구동파 형을 제안하였다. 제안된 sustain 파형은 기존의 구형파에 기울기를 가진 ramp 형태의 파형을 덧붙여 줌으로써 Self-Erasing을 유도하는 파형이다. 기존에 제안된 Self-Erasing을 이용한 구동방식은 높은 구동주파수(>150kHz)에서만 발광효율이 개선되는 반면, 본 논문에서 제안하는 파형은 낮은 구동주파수(25kHz)에서도 30%정도의 발광효율이 개선되었다. 본 논문의 결과로부터 주파수, 듀티, 기울기 등의 다양한 구동조건에서의 연구가 진행된다면 더 큰 발광효율개선이 기대된다.

  • High performance 42 inch XGA PDP with high luminance of 1,000 cd/$m^2$ has been developed using high efficient electrode structure, discharge gas and closed barrier ribs. For high speed addressing with single scan technique, address discharge time lag was reduced over 40% with FAST driving scheme and new materials. High dark room contrast ratio of 5,000 : 1 was achieved and picture quality was improved using new algorithm for eliminating false contour and improving gray level linearity.

  • Field sequential liquid crystal display (FSLCD) has advantages such as a high transmittance due to no use of color filter and high color reproductivity because of LED backlight for a luminance source. However, to realize FSLCD response time of the LCD must be below 5ms. In this paper, we have chosen electrically controlled birefringence (ECB) mode for this application and studied film compensation to improve the operating voltage and viewing angle and to achieve a fast response time optimizing the condition of the discotic film and TAC film, operating voltage decreases to 5V, and viewing angle range is $160^{\circ}$ at horizontal and vertical direction, respectively and $120^{\circ}$ in diagonal direction. (contrast ratio > 10:1) and optimized cell exhibits a fast response time of 4ms in most grey levels.

  • With the increasing demand for a better FPD image quality, better evaluation metrics and advanced display quality measurement methods are required to meet these needs. There are many measurement methods for evaluating the viewing angle of various display devices, but these methods, which include luminance drop, color shift, and contrast ratio decrease, are imperfect considering that human perception does not completely correlate to them. In this paper, a new method of measuring the perceptual angle of FPDs is proposed, considering human visual perception, which uses the color space of the color appearance model.

PC를 이용한 실시간 프랙탈 부호화 구현 (Real-time fractal coding implementation using the PC)

  • Real time fractal coding for successive QCIF 144*176 luminance images has been implemented on a 50MHz IBM 486 personal computer. To satisfy the frame encoding speed and data compression ratio, following algorithms are adopted. In order to minimize encoding time, extension SAS being not searching of domain blocks is used. for reducing the bits per pixel, conventioal 4*4 range block is extended to 8*8 range block. and range block extension decrease quality of decoded image. For improvement quality of decoded image, the paper apply quad-tree partition mothod. In order to divide **8 range block, self-simiarity is compared 8*8 range block with spatial contractive transformed 8*8 domain block. According to self-simiarity, the block is partitioned and owing to block partition, increased encoding time is minimized. According to self-simiarity of 8*8 range block and spatial contractive transformed 8*8 domain block, number of fractal factor is varied. Simultaneously with minimizing the decrement of decoded image's quality, transmittion rate and encoding time is shorted. The results enable us to process the real-time fractal coding. For the claire test image, the average PSNR was 32.4dB, 0.12 bit rates and 33ms coding time per frame.
