폐식물유 기반 다이머산 유도체의 합성 및 경유의 윤활성능 (Synthesis and Lubricating Properties of Dimer Acid Derivatives Based on Used Vegetable Oil)

  • 경유의 윤활성향상제로 사용하기 위하여 식물유 기반 다이머산 유도체를 합성하여 윤활성능을 평가하였다. 다이머산 유도체의 합성은 2단계의 반응을 거쳐 합성하였는데, 1단계 반응으로 폐식물유(다크오일)를 가수분해반응을 통하여 합성한 지방산을 사용하여 고온에서 디엘스-알더 반응을 행하여 다이머산을 합성하였다. 2단계 반응으로 합성한 다이머산을 사용하여 메탄올과 에스테르화 반응을 행하여 다이머산 유도체를 합성하였다. 합성한 다이머산 유도체는 1 wt% 범위 내에서 초저유황 경유에 잘 용해되었으며 일정량(120 ppm)을 초저유황 경유에 첨가하여 HFRR 시험법으로 마모흔을 측정하여 윤활성능을 평가하였다. 그 결과, 첨가 전 초저유황 경유의 마모흔의 직경이 $552{\mu}m$에서 첨가 후 $300{\sim}05{\mu}m$으로 현저히 작아져 초저유황 경유의 윤활성능을 향상하는 것으로 확인되었다. 한편, 식물유의 종류에 따른 마모흔의 차이는 크지 않아 다이머산 유도체의 알킬기의 구조에 따른 윤활성능의 차이는 크게 나타나지 않았으나, 카르복실산 그룹을 함유하는 다이머산 유도체가 함유하지 않은 유도체보다 윤활성능이 우수하였다.

폐어망과 선박용 폐윤활유 혼합물의 열분해반응 특성 연구 (Pyrolysis Characteristics of the Mixture of Waste Fishing Net and Waste Ship Lubricating Oil)

  • 열중량 분석기(TGA)를 이용하여 승온속도를 0.5, 1.0 및 $2.0^{\circ}C/min$으로 변화시키면서 nylon-6 재질 폐어망과 선박용 폐윤활유 혼합물에 대한 열분해반응 특성 연구를 수행하였다. 폐어망은 $300^{\circ}C$부터 열분해반응이 시작되었으며, 각각의 승온속도에서 열분해반응은 $360{\sim}440^{\circ}C$ 구간에서 급격하게 진행되었다. 폐어망과 폐윤활유를 혼합하여 열분해할 경우 각각을 열분해할 때보다 낮은 온도에서 열분해 반응이 진행되었으며 열중량 변화곡선의 형태도 각각을 열분해 했을 때와 구분되었다. 열중량 분석을 통해서 얻은 데이터는 미분법으로 열분해반응 활성화에너지 및 빈도인자를 구하였다. 혼합물의 열분해반응 전환율이 5~95%일 때 활성화에너지는 98~427 kJ/mol 내에 분포하였다. 미분반응기를 이용하여 반응온도 $440^{\circ}C$에서 반응시간 80 min 동안 열분해반응 실험을 수행한 결과 폐어망, 폐윤활유 및 혼합물은 특정한 탄화수소화합물에 대한 선택성은 나타나지 않았으며, 생성된 오일의 탄소수 분포는 대부분 $C_{22}$ 이하였다.

Ultrasonic Measurement of Interfacial Layer Thickness of Sub-Quarter-Wavelength

  • This paper describes a new technique for thickness measurement of a very thin layer less than one-quarter of the wavelength of ultrasonic wave used in the ultrasonic pulse-echo measurements. The technique determines the thickness of a thin layer in a tapered medium from constructive interference of multiple reflection waves. The interference characteristics are derived and investigated in theoretical and experimental approaches. Modified total reflection wave g(t) defined as difference between total and first reflection waves increases in amplitude as the interfacial layer thickness decreases down to zero. A layer thickness less than one-tenth of the ultrasonic wavelength is measured using the maximum amplitude of g(t) with a good accuracy and sensitivity. The method also requires no inversion process to extract the thickness information from the waveforms of reflected waves, so that it makes possible to have the on-line thickness measurement of a thin layer such as a lubricating oil film in thrust bearings and journal bearings during manufacturing process.

  • The reduction of $CO_2$ emissions has been a key target in the Marine Industry since the IMO's Marine Environment Protection Committee published its findings in 2009. The representative emission index is termed as the EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) for the new ships. Among various flow control techniques ever proposed, the air lubrication method is the one of most promising one in terms of practical applicability. The present study examines the basic characteristics of the flat plate test with intention of applying the air lubrication technology to the reduction of the resistance of a ship. Image analysis technique is proposed as a tool to quantify the effectiveness of the air lubrication method.

  • Recently, high-strength concrete used for shortening the construction time of high-rise building construction, Concrete pumping technology is emerging as the core technology of high-rise buildings. In this paper, we have started to study the use of electromagnetic field as a method to increase the efficiency of the lubricating layer between the inside of the pipe and concrete, which has been established as the most important factor determining the pumping performance. The pumping performance improvement effect of concrete strength was verified and basic research was carried out to utilize it as a method to increase the efficiency of pumping in field application. In the related work, the effect of the electromagnetic field was verified by conducting a mock-up performance evaluation (horizontal 300 m) of the pumping force by the concrete strength.

  • The correlation dimension of a nonlinear method for the diagnosis on the clearance of rotating machinery is introduced in this paper. The correlation dimension can provide some intrinsic information of an underlying dynamic system by reconstructing measured scalar time series. Vibration signals measured from a rotor with different operating conditions are analyzed using the correlation dimension. The results show that the correlation dimension method can identify the magnitude of the clearance of a rotor and the lubricating condition.

압축공기를 이용한 건식 선삭가공의 절삭특성 (Cutting Characteristics of Dry Turning Using Compressed Air)

  • The purposes of using cutting fluid during cutting have been cooling, lubricating, chip washing, and anti-corroding. However, the present manufacturing industry restricts the use of cutting fluid because cutting fluid contains poisonous substances which are harmful to the human body. Therefore dry cutting becomes an unavoidable assignment and a lot of researches have studied cutting methods without using cutting fluid. Because dry turning is a continuous work, tools life is reduced by continuous heat generation and surface gets rough due to reduced lubrication, so it is important to consider these situations. In this paper, the way of selecting the optimal machining condition by the minimum number of experiments and the effectiveness of using compressed air in high hardness materials through Taguchi method have been found. Dry cutting using compressed air showed better cutting characteristics than normal dry cutting with respect to by cutting force, tool wear, and surface roughness. Also, the optimal machining condition f3r dry cutting using compressed air could be selected through Taguchi method.

Axle Shaft 냉간 단조를 위한 최적 수계윤활조건 (Optimal Water Lubrication Condition for an Axle Shaft Cold Forging)

  • The cold forging Process applies surface lubricant coating in order to smooth the friction during the cold forging process. Currently, most of the lubrication processes apply the zinc phosphate coating, which requires 11 steps and disposes sludge. But the water based lubrication process, which has been newly developed, takes 3 steps only and does not cause sludge. In this study, we present the optimal condition of water based lubrication for the cold forging of axle shaft by an experimental design method. Experimental results with minitab shall be able to predict the optimum water based lubricating conditions for the cold forging processes.

  • An approach is developed for parametric investigation of the influence of the surface roughness on thermohydrodynamic analysis with film conditions which systemically occur in journal bearings. A parametric investigation is performed for predicting the bearing behaviors such as pressure and temperature distributions in lubricating films between the stationary and moving surfaces determined by absorbed layers and interfaces on the statistical method for rough surface with Gaussian distribution. The layers expressing the effects of surface roughness are expressed as functions of the standard deviations (${\sigma}$) of each surface and surface orientation (j) to explain the flow patterns between both rough surfaces. The coupled effect of surface roughness and shear zone dependency on hydrodynamic pressure and temperature has been found by solving the present model in non-contact mode and contact mode, respectively.

  • In this paper, the influence of ram-pressure on the static and dynamic characteristics of infinite width tilting-pad journal bearing is investigated theoretically. The ram-pressure is obtained by assumption of conservation of mechanical energy of the lubricant flow through the leading edge of the pad. The pressure in the lubricating film is numerically calculated using the ram-pressure obtained as the inlet pressure boundary condition of the pad. The static equilibrium state of tilting-pad journal bearing is determined by Newton-Raphson iteration method. A numerical results are presented in graphic form and relationships between the ram-pressure and the static and dynamic characteristics are discussed.
