  • $T_3-BSA\;and\;T_4-BSA$ conjugates were prepared and identified spectrophotometrically. The ${\lambda}max$ of the conjugates was just coincided with that of BSA, but the molar extinction coefficients of the conjugates were generally larger than that of BSA itself. The molar ratios of $T_3:\;BSA\;and\;T_4:\;BSA$ in the prepared conjugates were found to be 9:1 and 5:1, respectively. The titers of the $T_3$ antisera were generally higher (max. $1.5{\times}10^4:1$) than those of $T_3$ (max. $2{\times}10^3:1$), and the average cross reactivity of the $T_3$ antibody with $T_3$ was lower (0.45%) than that of $T_4$ antibody with $T_3(3{\sim}4%)$. The results of the study indicate that the predominant cause of the lower titers and the lower specificity of the $T_4$ antisera comparing with those of $T_3$ is mainly due to the unstability of the $T_4-BSA$ and consequent degradation of the conjugate to $T_3-BSA$ during preparation, purification, and even during immunization. The lower molar ratio of $T_4$ to BSA in the preparation stage is also considered to be a minor factor. By measuring $T_3,\;T_4$ levels in the reference control serum, it has been confirmed that the prepared antisera can sufficiently be utilized, respectively, in the established radioimmunoassay systems.

  • $Technetium-^{99m}$ labeling method using bifunctional chelating agent cyclic DTPA has been evaluated with human polyclonal nonspecific IgG. IgG was conjugated with cyclic DTPA with various molar ratio. Reduction of $^{99m}Tc$ was done with $Na_2S_2O_4$ with various molar excess. Labeling efficiency and identification of polymer was confirmed with HPLC using TSK4000 SW column. Polymer was purified with 100 cm Sepharose 6LB column. Cultured $1{\times}10^9$ Staphylococcus aureus were injected into rat thigh 24 hours later labeled IgG was injected, and in vivo distribution was observed 4 and 24 hours thereafter. Reduction of $^{99m}Tc$ was optimal with the 10000-50000 times molar excess of $Na_2S_2O_4$. Polymer formation increased with increasing mloar excess of cyclic DTPA to IgG. Three step labeling-labeling DTPA conjugated IgG after reduction of $^{99m}Tc$-made more polymer than two two step labeling-simultaneous mixing DTPA conjugated IgG, $^{99m}Tc$ and $Na_2S_2O_4$. $^{99m}Tc$ blood clearance and lower uptake in the abscess and other organs. IgG conjugated with 200 times molar excess of cyclic DTPA showed slower blood clearance with 200 times molar excess of cyclic DTPA showed slower blood clearance than that of 200 times molar excess of cyclic DTPA showed slower blood clearance than that of 20 times molar excess. In the $^{99m}Tc$ labeling of IgG with cyclic DTPA for the immunoscintigraphy, obtimal labeling condition should be chosen, and effect of the $^{99m}Tc$ labeled IgG polymer should be considered.

  • This study proposes the deconvolution method for the nanoindentation test results of geopolymer employing the Gaussian mixture model. Geopolymer has been studied extensively as an alternative construction material because it emits relatively lower CO2 compared to ordinary Portland cement. Geopolymer is made of aluminosilicate and alkaline solution, and the Si/Al molar ratio affects its mechanical properties. Previous studies revealed that the Si/Al molar ratio of 1.8~2.0 results in the highest compressive strength, and the Si/Al molar ratio over 1.8 degrades the compressive strength of geopolymer severely; however the reason for the compressive strength degradation is still unclear. To understand the effect of the Si/Al molar ratio on the geopolymer structure, this study exploits the nanoindentation. The phase deconvolution of the indent modulus data is successful using the Gaussian mixture model, and it is observed that the Si/Al molar ratio alters the homogeneity of the geopolymer. Geopolymer becomes more homogeneous up to an Si/Al molar ratio of 1.8 at which geopolymer exhibits the highest compressive strength. The examination of this study is assumed to be adopted as evidence of strength degradation by the Si/Al ratio higher than the optimum value.

  • Ectopic eruption is out of a normal position by local eruption disturbance in the developing permanent molar. The prevalence of ectopic eruption is reported to be the between 2 and 6%, most often associated maxillary first permanent molar whereas, the occurrence for the mandibular is quite rare. The etiologic factors of ectopic eruption are inadequate arch length, lack of growth in the posterior region of the jaw, mesially inclined eruption path of first permanent molars, abnormally large first permanent molars, hereditary factor and a stainless steel crown which has been improperly restored. Ectopic eruption can be treated by the use of brass wire, separating elastics, distal disking and Humphrey appliance and the use of removable appliance and cervical traction headgear after extraction of the second primary molar. This case was that lower right first permanent molar was mesially tilted state by locking on the stainless steel crown of a lower right second primary molar. The stainless steel crown was removed and Humphrey appliance was set. Like this case, ectopic eruption could be happened by the stainless steel crown which improperly restored. In restoration of the stainless steel crown, selection of proper size, trimming and contouring are very important.

  • Dental Implants have been proved to be successful prosthetic modality in edentulous patients for 10 years. However, there are few reports on the survival of implant according to location in molar regions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the $4{\sim}5$ years' cumulative survival rate and the cause of failure of dental implants in different locations for maxillary and mandibular molars. Among the implants placed in molar regions in Gwangju Mir Dental Hospital from Jan. 2001 to Jun. 2002, 473 implants from 166 patients(age range; $26{\sim}75$) were followed and evaluated retrospectively for the causes of failure. We included 417 implants in 126 periodontally compromised patients, 56 implants in 40 periodontal healthy patients, and 205 maxillary and 268 mandibular molar implants. Implant survival rates by various subject factors, surgical factors, fixture factors, and prosthetic factors at each location were compared using Chi-square test and Kaplan-Meier cumulative survival analysis was done for follow-up(FU) periods. The overall failure rate at 5 years was 1O.2%(subject level) and 5.5%(implant level). The overall survival rates of implants during the FU periods were 94.5% with 91.3% in maxillary first molar, 91.1% in maxillary second molar, 99.2% in mandibular first molar and 94,8% in mandibular second molar regions. The survival rates differed significantly between both jaws and among different implant locations(p<0.05), whereas the survival rates of functionally loaded implants were similar in different locations. The survival rates were not different according to gender, age, previous periodontal status, surgery stage, bone graft type, or the prosthetic type. The overall survival rate was low in dental implant of too wide diameter(${\geq}5.75$ mm) and the survival rate was significantly lower for wider implant diameter(p

  • This is a case report of first branchial cleft cyst in 56 year old male patient, which was tentatively diagnosed as acute right submandibular abscess resulted from the periapical lesion of the lower right second molar. The results are as follows, 1. The accompanying ipsilateral inflammatory swelling resulted from the periapical lesion of lower right second molar tooth makes the diagnosis difficult. 2. The onset of this case was very late in comparison to the mean discovering age of branchial cleft cysts. 3. The plain radiography using contrast media is helpful for the diagnosis of cystic lesions within soft tissues. 4. This case in a first branchial cleft cyst(Type I) which occurs less than 1% of all branchial cleft anomalies.
