Objectives: The aim of the present study is to elucidate the relationship of community capacity to health in a metropolitan area in Korea. To do so, a multi-level model to verify the contextual effects of community capacity is presented. Methods: The study materials are the "The 4th Seoul Citizens Health Indicators Surveys" on 404 dong in Seoul. The community capacity indicators were developed in two strata: individual-level indicators with community identity domain; and community-level indicators with participation in community organizations, number of non-profit organizations, degree of organizing of community-based organizations, and volunteer activities. Results: Higher unhealthy probability occurs among those with lower community capacity at the community level, lower individual income, and lower community satisfaction at the individual level. It contributed to explaining self-rated health status and showed that there were contextual effects of the community going beyond the compositional effects of the individual. Conclusions: In the process of building community capacity, a community autonomously finds pending issues and solves related problems, and in so doing, raises the social quality and establishes the conditions for health promotion. Thus, the significance of neighborhood needs to be discovered and created in a new way through the development of community capacity.
This study were performed to investigate effect of dietary cadmium(Cd) and protein levels on growth, body protein metabolism and Cd toxicity in growing rats. Forty eight male rats of Sprague-Dawley weighing 113$\pm$2g were blocked into 6 groups accoridng to body weight. Dietary protein were given at the levels of 7, 15 and 40% of diet and Cd (200ppm)were either added or not. The result obtained were summerized as follow; 1) Food intake, weight gain, FER PER, liver and kidney weight, weight and length of bones, hematocrit, and hemoglobin content in Cd-added groups were low than those in Cd-free groups. 2) Serum total protein showed no significant difference with Cd addition, but it was significantly lower in low protein diet groups. Liver protein in Cd-added groups was lower than Cd-free groups, and was tend to be increased with increasing dietary protein level. 3) Daily urinary and fecal nitrogen excretions in Cd-added groups were lower than Cd-free groups, and were increased with increasing dietary protein level. 4) Cadmium contents in blood, liver, kidney, and femur were tend to be decreased with increasing dietary protein level. Especially, Cd content in kidney of Cd-added groups was significantly decreased with increasing dietary protein level. 5) Daily urinary and fecal Cd excretions were tend to be increased with increasing dietary protein level, and Cd-added-high protein diet group showed the highest Cd excretion among the Cd-added groups, Cd absorption ration and Cd retention ratio were tend to be decreased with increasing dietary protein level.

Purpose - We attempted to verify the level of ethics of firms achieving sustainable management from the aspect of reliability of accounting information. Specifically, we evaluated the effects of sustainable management on accruals-based earning management (AEM) and real earning management (REM). Research design, data, and methodology - We employed the issuance of sustainability reports in addition to the indices of social responsibility and environmental-management evaluation of the Korea Corporate Governance Service in order to measure sustainability management. AEM was measured using discretionary accruals and calculated using the operant Jones model. Specifically, REM was measured using the methodology suggested by prior studies. The sample of our study consisted of 1,418 years of public listed firms in the Korea Stock Exchange from 2015 to 2017. Results - First, the level of AEM in firms achieving sustainable management was lower than the other. Second, the level of REM in these firms was lower than the other. Nonetheless, another analysis showed that the level of governance control affects the level of earning management and that the levels of AEM and REM were generally lower in firms achieving sustainable management than the others. Conclusions - We expected that firms achieving external ethics tend to have a higher level of internal ethics than others.
Objectives: This study aimed to assess the association between the use of dentures by the elderly and the prevalence of depression by using the original data from the 2017 Community Health Survey as basic data for the promotion of oral health and oral health policy development in the elderly. Methods: The study subjects were 67,835 elderly over 65 years of age. The raw data were collected from 2017 Community Health Survey in Korea Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Results: Among the demographic and sociological characteristics, the higher the age, the lower the educational level, the worse the subjective health level, and the higher the denture use. The higher the age, the lower the education level, the lower the income level, the worse the subjective health level, the more stress they have, the more sleep time, and the higher the prevalence of depression. The association between the use of dentures and the prevalence of depression was 1.071 times higher than that of not using dentures, and it was found that the prevalence of depression was affected. Conclusions: As a result, it was confirmed that the use of dentures influenced the prevalence of depression. Institutional support will be needed to establish a national-level prevention policy that can maintain and promote healthy oral conditions and prevent the need dentures in the elderly.
This study was conducted to examine the hypoglycemic effects of complexcity extract(DB 55) from five oriental medicinal plants on the intake of food, body weight, blood glucose level, insulin content, serum GOP, GPT, BUN and hematocrit value in streptozotocin(STZ)-induced diabetic rats. General nutritional composition was also assessed. Thirty- five male Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned to five groups : normal control group(NC), STZ-diabetic control group (STZ-control), STZ-diabetic DB-1 group(DB 55-1), STZ-diabetic DB-2 group(DB 55-2) and STZ-diabetic DB-3 group(DB 55-3). The animals were fed an experimental diet for 12 weeks. Body weight gain of the STZ-diabetic group was significantly lower but diet intake was significantly higher than the NC group. Blood glucose levels of the DB-1, DB-2 and DB-3 rats were significantly lower than the STZ-control animals. Insulin level of STZ-control rats was lower than the NC serum GOT, GPT and BUN levels were significantly higher in the NC group, but hematocrit value was not significant as compare to the STZ-diabetic group. Blood glucose level was lower observed for the DB 55-1, DB 55-2 and DB 55-3 group. The results will be useful in oriental diet therapy and in the developing functional food resources.
This study was performed to investigate the influence of dietary fibers on the serum lipid level and bowel function in aged rats. Fiber sources of experimental diets were made from mugwort(M), butterbur(B), apple(A), sea mustard(S) by drying and milling. Each of fiber sources was mixed into the diet at the level of 5, 15% of diet. Sprague-Dawley strain, 13 month old male rats were divided into 9 groups by randomized complete block design : C, M5, B5, A5, S5, M15, B15, A15, S15. The animals were fed ad libitum each of experimental diets for 4 weeks. Control group showed lower food intake compare to the other groups. There were no significant difference between 5% groups and 15% groups in food intake. Fecal weight, dry fecal weight and fecal water content of control group were significantly lower than those of experimental groups, and fecal water content was increased by increasing level of dietary fibber. Apple group showed the lowest values, sea mustard group showed the highest. The shorter transit time was observed in the group of higher intake of dietary fiber. At the same level of dietary fiber, transit time of sea mustard group was shorter than the other groups. With increasing age, serum triglycerides, total cholesterol were increased and HDL-cholesterol was decreased. Fiber fed groups showed lower serum TG, TC and higher HDL-c level compare to the control group. Absorption rates of calcium, magnesium and phosphorus was tend to be lower in the group fed dietary fiber sources than control group. Mucosa weight and maltase activity in the small intestine were decreased by increasing age. As intake of dietary fiber increaed, mucosa weight in the small intestine was not different but maltase activity was decreased.
The study surveyed 1,127 mothers whose children aged 3 to 5 went to 25 randomly selected kindergartens, which were located in Busan Metropolitan City and the adjacent Gimhae City, and analyzed the preventive health behaviors on their children and the condition of home health education on their children. As the compulsory kindergarten education will e to be implemented within 4 years, this study aimed to draw up the rudimentary material for health education at kindergartens. The study results are summed up as follows: 1. Mothers' awareness of health-related attitude and behavioral level for their children at kindergarten: 1) The general health condition of the children, which mothers are aware of, was that they were healthy on the whole. As their children becomes older, the income level of the parents is lower, and mothers have lower level of educational standard, the health condition of the children was found a little lower. 2) In terms of mothers' recognition of the practice level of preventive health behaviors, the items such as going to bed regularly, washing hands and feet well, and having meals regularly were high in the practice level, while exercise and tooth-brushing were not practiced well. 2. The condition of mothers' health education of their children: 1) It was found that washing hands and feet, restriction of overeating and preference for specific kinds of food, guidance on regular sleep and regular meal were practiced well among items of home health education targeting kindergarten children. 2) Mothers have obtained information on family health from printed matter such as newspaper or magazine rather than the visual media. 3) From the cross analysis of mothers' health education on children and children's health behaviors, as the standard of education of mothers was higher, so was the level of preventive health behaviors of children. 3. From the result of multi regression analysis of the factors influencing the preventive hygiene of kindergarten children, it was found that as the home health education level was higher, so was the health behavior of children. On the other hand, as the mothers were older, the health behavior of children became lower.

Purpose: The osmolar gap increases in proportion to the ethanol level. Some previous studies have shown that the correlation between the osmolar gap and the ethanol level is weak in trauma patient by using an indirect comparison with other patients. We conducted a direct comparison of the correlation of the osmolar gap to the ethanol level between trauma patients and non-trauma patients. We also analyzed the accuracy of the estimated ethanol level between the two groups. Methods: The research candidates were adult patients who had visited the emergency department of our hospital from December 2003 to November 2008. By using a retrospective chart review, we classified them into three subgroups: non-trauma without shock, trauma without shock, and trauma with shock. In each group, we compared the correlation between the osmolar gap and the measured ethanol level, and we analyzed the accuracy of the estimated ethanol level by using Lin's concordance correlation coefficient. Results: Four hundred forty-seven patients were enrolled in this study. For correlation of the osmolar gap and the measured ethanol level, Pearson's correlation coefficient was 0.916 in all patients, 0.939 in non-trauma without shock patients, 0.917 in trauma without shock patients, and 0.844 in trauma with shock patients. In the analysis of the accuracy of the estimated ethanol level by using Lin's concordance correlation coefficient, the accuracy in trauma with shock patients was lower than that in non-trauma without shock patients. Conclusion: We found that the correlation between the osmolar gap and the measured ethanol level in the patient group with trauma was lower than it was in the patient group without trauma. Moreover trauma patients with shock had a lower accuracy of the estimated ethanol level than non-trauma patients.

This study aims to empirically analyze the effects of leadership level and toxic leadership on leadership performance results among male and female military leaders in the Army, and to verify whether the leader's gender has a moderating effect in this process. Additionally, by comparing and analyzing the leadership level, toxic leadership, and leadership performance results of female military leaders by position, this study seeks to examine the characteristics of female military leadership according to position. The research model was established with leadership level and toxic leadership as independent variables, leadership performance results as the dependent variable, and the leader's gender as a moderating variable. Data were collected through a survey of 216 male and female officers serving in the positions of platoon leader, company commander, and battalion commander in the Army. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis. The results showed that leadership level had a significant positive effect on leadership performance results, while toxic leadership had a significant negative effect. The leader's gender moderated the relationship between leadership level and leadership performance results, with female leaders receiving lower evaluations than male leaders at the same level of leadership competency. Gender also moderated the relationship between toxic leadership and leadership performance results, with female leaders exhibiting the same level of toxic leadership receiving lower performance evaluations than male leaders. In the comparative analysis of female military leadership characteristics by position, the leadership level of the platoon leader and company commander groups was not significantly different from that of male soldiers, but the battalion commander group showed slightly lower leadership competency compared to male soldiers. Based on these results, this study suggests ways to improve the leadership level of female military leaders, reduce toxic leadership, and prepare support measures to strengthen the leadership competency of female military officers at the battalion commander level and above from policy, institutional, and educational perspectives.
