  • The reference impedances which is about 95% supply impedance value of residential consumers' supply impedances was published by IEC in 1980. The reference impedances are the standard values for use in determining the voltage disturbance characteristics of electrical equipment like the flicker. In IEC 60725, the reference impedances for premises having service current capacities less than 100A per phase and for service current capacities more than 100A per phase are recommended. And these reference impedances are targeted for the countries using 50Hz power frequency. Because of the frequency difference, the reactance values of the reference impedances will be increased in 60Hz power system like Korea, And also the reference impedances are different significantly each other according to declared voltage variation, power consumption and service wire length etc. Therefore It is needed to calculate the reference impedances suitable for domestic low-voltage power system. In this paper, the reference impedances for service current capacities less than 100A in 220/380V, 60Hz single-phase two wire and three-phase four wire low-voltage system are calculated, And the equations for service current capacities more than 100A to calculate the modulus value of maximum supply impedances are suggested base on IEC 60725 and the reference impedances for those are calculated on service current of 100A per phase.

  • As environmental issues have been taken seriously, the number of solar power generation facilities has rapidly increased in Korea. The voltage at the output stage of an inverter increases in a system that connects a small-capacity photovoltaic power generation to low-voltage power distribution. This degrades the quality of the low-voltage distribution system and adversely affects the load facility. In this study, a solution was obtained to increase the voltage at the output stage of the solar inverter according to the connection of the low-voltage distribution system. The voltage can be controlled by using reactive power factor control inverters. If the secondary tap is adjusted, the voltage can be adjusted to about 15 V, but there is a problem in that the tap is not adjusted unless the KEPCO distribution regulation voltage is out of the range of 220±13V. If the number of inverters is limited, the inverter can be started within the inverter overvoltage range. If it is connected to three phases, the voltage is distributed. The results indicated that power factor control and active voltage control inverters were easy to apply in the field.

  • This paper presents a low voltage-stress AC-linked charge equalizing system for balancing the energy in a serially connected, valve-regulated lead acid battery string using a modular converter that consists of multiple transformers coupled together. Each converter was coupled through an AC-linked bus to increase the overall energy transfer efficiency of the system and to eliminate the problem of the unbalanced charging of batteries. Previous solutions are based on centralized and modularized topologies. A centralized topology requires a redesign of the hardware and related components. It also faces a high voltage stress when the number of batteries is expanded. Modularized solutions use low-voltage-stress, double-stage, DC-linked topologies which leads to poor energy transfer efficiency. The proposed solution uses a low-voltage stress, AC-linked, modularized topology that makes adding more batteries easier. It also has a better energy transfer efficiency. To ensure that the charge equalization system operates smoothly and safely charges batteries, a small intelligent microcontroller was used in the control section. The efficiency of this charge equalization system is 85%, which is 21% better than other low-voltage-stress DC-linked charging techniques. The validity of this approach was confirmed by experimental results.

  • Many developing countries has been voltage unstable and the inter- change capability in Korea is limited by voltage instability. In analyzing voltage stability, load model has been considered as constant power, but actual loads vary as voltage changes. In order to incorporating voltage-dependent load model. we need the low-side of P-V curve that can not be obtained by general load flow algorithm. This paper proposes a modified GCF algorithm to obtain a full low-side of P-V curve and a accurate voltage assessment index considering load model. 5-bus sample system and 19-bus real power system are applied to simulate the proposed GCF. Also. the effect of reactive power compensation is illustrated in same systems.

  • This paper presents the trend of low voltage and high current technology for DC-DC converters. It can be said that the output voltage of the on-board power supply has been rapidly moving forward a low voltage in proportion to the minuteness of the semiconductors. As for as its speed is concerned, the change of the market situation seems to be faster than that of R&D for the low voltage and high current products put out by power supply manufacturers. Here, the present situation and the trend of non-isolated type step-down DC-DC converter and isolated type DC-DC converter called "Brick" will be taken up mainly from the fellowing point of view. -low voltage and high current keeping up with the current demand for the latest telecommunication networks and broadband. -build-up of the total solution for dispersion system power supply. In this paper, an explanation is given to mainly concerning to the newest products in the supplier's position.

  • Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and battery charging control are two important functions for a solar battery charger. The former improves utilization of the available solar energy, while the latter ensures a prolonged battery life. Nevertheless, complete implementation of both functions can be complex and costly, especially for low voltage application such as standalone street lamps. In this paper, the operation of a solar battery charger for standalone street light systems is investigated. Using only one voltage sensor, the solar charger is able to operate in both MPPT and constant voltage (CV) charging mode, hence providing high performance at a low cost. Using a lab prototype and a solar simulator, the operation of the charger system is demonstrated and its performance under varying irradiance is validated.

  • Pulsed power systems consist of a capacitor bank, an isolated high-voltage charging power-supply, high-current bus-work for charging and discharging and a control system. In such pulsed power systems, the operating-lifetime of the capacitors is closely dependent on the voltage reversal. Hence, most capacitor-discharging systems includes crowbar circuits. The crowbar circuit prevents the capacitor recharging with reverse voltage. Usually it consists of crowbar resistors and high pulse-current diode-stacks connected in series. The requirements for the diode-stacks are fast-recovery time and high-voltage and large-current ratings, which results in the high cost of the pulsed-power system. This paper presents a protection scheme of a charging and discharging system of a 500kJ capacitor bank using a low-cost crowbar circuit and safety-fuses.

  • A wind generator system model includes wind model, rotor dynamics, synchronous generator, power converter, distribution line and infinite bus. This paper investigates the low-Voltage Ride-Through capability of PMSG wind turbine in a variable speed. The drive train of a wind turbine on 2-mass modeling can observe the shaft torsional vibration when the low-voltage occur. To reduce the torsional vibration when the low-voltage occur, this paper designs suppression control algorithm of the torsional vibration and implements simulation. A Matlab/Simulink is used to investigate the response during the transient state.

  • A cascaded hybrid multilevel inverter including a reconfiguration technique for low voltage dc distribution applications is proposed in this paper. A PWM generation fault detection and reconfiguration paradigm after an inverter cell fault are developed by using only a single-chip controller. The proposed PWM technique is also modified to reduce switching losses. In addition, the proposed topology can reduce the number of required power switches compared to the conventional cascaded multilevel inverter. The proposed technique is validated by using a 3-kVA prototype. The switching losses of the proposed multilevel inverter are also investigated. The experimental results show that the proposed hybrid inverter can improve system efficiency, reliability and cost effectiveness. The efficiency of proposed system is 97.45% under the tested conditions. The proposed hybrid inverter topology is a promising method for low voltage dc distribution and can be applied for the multiple loads which are required in a data center or telecommunication building.
