Wool fabrics were dyed with the aqueous solution of C. I. Red Acid 114 mixed with methanol dissolving three kinds of barely water soluble ketones, acetophenone, 2-pentanone, and 3-pentanone. The steric hinderance and the orientation of the bigger hydrophobic part of the solvated dye molecules to the fiber slowed down the dying rate, however, loosening the wool molecule, say a little swelling, disaggeregating the dye molecules, and attaining the higher dye concentration on the fiber surface by the added solvents increased the amount of dye on the fabric. The higher concentration or/and the higher dyeing temperature helped loosen fiber molecules and made it easier for the solvated dye molecules to penetrate into the inside of the fiber. Acetophenone, the most influential solvent used, showed that the ability to loosen fiber molecules was the most important of all the three positive solvent actions mentioned above. The considered mechanism provided before reflected the fact that the dye uptake on the fabric dyed with the solvents included, except for 0.034M and 0.051M of acetophenone, was even lower than that without any solvents at $50^\circ{C}$, but all the solvents added to the dye bath increased the dye uptake on the fiber at $70^\circ{C}$.
A serious problem of the 21st century is the supply of energy resources. Reserves of fossil fuels are facing depletion: renewable energy resources must be developed in this era. Dye sensitizedsolar cells(DSC) have been very economical and easy method to convert solar energy to electricity. DSC can reach low costs in future outdoor power applications. However, to commercialize the DSC, there are still many shortages to overcome. When the DSC is commercialized in the near future, the productivity is an important factor. In the process of soaking in a dye, it usually takes $12\sim24$ hours. In this study, we varied the dye coloring temperature from $0^{\circ}C$ to $60^{\circ}C$. At the temperature of $40^{\circ}C$, DSC cell showed the best performance. We also expect the reduction of the time soaking in a dye. Counter electrode surface of DSC is deposited by RF magnetron sputtering under the conditions of Ar $2.8{\times}10^{-3}$ torr, RF power of 120W and substrate temperature of $100^{\circ}C$.
In order to detect gas phase strong acid on fabrics, a hexyl-substituted monoazo yellow dye, which was the modified form of a conventional pH-indicating dye, Methyl Yellow, was studied in view of acid-gas sensing properties and its fastness. The dye was printed on polypropylene non-wovens for protective coveralls and examined under various conditions of strong acid such as hydrochloric acid. The dye showed color change from yellow to red on exposure to gas phase hydrochloric acid as low concentration as 1~3 ppm very instantly. Considering reuse of the dye-printed non-wovens, the repeatability of color change was tested on the same sample for 50 repeats and 100 days. The acid-gas sensing function was maintained almost the same level of initial performance. The color fastness of the dye on polypropylene non-wovens was very good showing higher than ratings 4 except for 3~4 to rubbing under wet condition.
The dye decolorization rate in a cell-free culture broth of the white-rot fungus Trametes versicolor CBR43 was studied, including the effects of inhibitors of NaCl, Zn(II), and Cd(II) on dye decolorization activity. The maximum rates of dye decolorization in cell-free culture broth were 1,410, 44.7, 41.2, and $0.19{\mu}mol{\cdot}l^{-1}{\cdot}min^{-1}$ for Acid Blue 62, Acid Black 175, Reactive Blue 4, and Acid Red 114, respectively. The inhibition effects of NaCl, Zn(II), and Cd(II) on dye decolorization were quantitatively compared using the half maximal inhibition concentration ($IC_{50}$), which indicates the concentration of an inhibitor required for 50% inhibition. Based on $IC_{50}$ values, dye decolorization in the cell-free culture broth of CBR43 was most potently inhibited by Cd(II), whereas the inhibitory effect of NaCl was relatively low. The dye decolorization rates and $IC_{50}$ data can be used in the design and development of a dye-wastewater treatment process using T. versicolor CBR43 and its operating factors.
Dye-sensitized solar cells(DSSCs) have been recognized as an alternative to the conventional p-n junction solar cells because of their simple fabrication process, low production cost, and transparency. A typical DSSC consists of a transparent conductive oxide (TCO) electrode, a dye-sensitized oxide semiconductor nanoparticle layer, liquid redox electrolyte, and a Pt-counter electrode. In dye-sensitized solar cells, charge recombination processes at interfaces between coducting glass, $TiO_2$, dye, and electrolyte play an important role in limiting the photon-to-electron conversion efficiency. A layer of ZTO thin film less than ~200nm in thickness, as a blocking layer, was deposited by DC magnetron sputtering method directly onto the anode electrode to be isolated from the electrolyte in dye-sensitized solar cells(DSCs). This is to prevent the electrons from back-transferring from the electrode to the electrolyte ($I^-/I_3^-$). The presented DSCs were fabricated with working electrode of Ga-doped ZnO glass coated with blocking ZTO layer, dye-attached nanoporous $TiO_2$ layer, gel electrolyte and counter electrode of Pt-deposited GZO glass. The effects of blocking layer were studied with respect to impedance and conversion efficiency of the cells.
In this study, we investigated the relationship between the adsorption property of Methyl violet or Tartrazine dye onto silica sol surface and surface charge density of the sol. The adsorption ratio of Methyl violet dye on silica sol decreased to 74% and 92% for the 68nm and 94nm silica sol, respectively, at dye concentration of $175{\mu}g/m^2$. However, the adsorption ratio of Tartrazine dye on 68nm and 94nm silica sol was about 0% for both of them. The surface charge density is $-0.40C/m^2$, $-0.26C/m^2$ for 68nm and 94nm silica sol, respectively. The amount of Methyl violet dye adsorbed on silica sol increased with an increase of surface charge density of particle at the same concentration of the dye. The adsorbed amount of the silica having high surface charge density is larger at high pH domain. But adsorbed amount of the silica having low surface charge density is larger at low pH domain.

This research article explores the use of phthalocyanine reactive dye on nylon substrate. The effect of factors such as pH, temperature, liquor ratio and alkali addition on level of dye exhaustion, fixation and total fixation efficiency. Low pH, high temperature and low liquor ratio were found to be suitable conditions for maximum % exhaustion values. The effect of sulphatoethylsulphone(SES) and vinylsulphone(VS) form of the dyes on level of dye fixation was also discussed. The optimized exhaustion (%E), fixation(%F) and total fixation efficiency were determined. Modification of the dyeing process with alkali addition displayed that dye fixation(%) increased by alkali addition. Vinylsulphone(VS) moiety of the dye was found to be superior to. maximum fixation (%F). Appropriate predictable empirical models, relatively a new approach in dyeing processes, were developed incorporating interactions effects of temperature, pH and liquor ratio for predicting % exhaustion, fixation and total fixation efficiency. The significance of the mathematical model developed was ascertained using microsoft excel regression(solver) analysis module. High correlation coefficient was obtained (R2=0.9895 for % exhaustion, R2=0.9932 for fixation, R2=0.9965 for total fixation efficiency) for the model which shows prominent prediction capacity of the model for my conditions. The predictable polynomial equations developed from tile experimental results were thoroughly analyzed by ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) statistical concepts.

Cholesteric liquid crystals are one dimensional photonic band-gap materials due to their birefringence and periodic structure. Dye doped cholesteric liquid crystals are self-assembling, mirror-less, low threshold laser structures that exhibit distributed feedback. In this review paper, we have presented the development in the field of lasing characteristics of dye doped cholesteric liquid crystals.
The hydrophobic nature of the wool surface give rise to difficult penetration of dye molecules. Among all the methods of modification, graft polymerization is an attractive method to impart a variety of functional groups to a polymer. Grafting has been made by irradiating the light on the polymer in the presence of a solvent containing monomer. The energy source commonly used are high-energy electrons, X-rays, UV and visible light. UV irradiation is a relatively low-energy radiation in comparison with others since it has the least possibility to change bulk properties. In the present paper, a photo-reactive dye was synthesized from quinizarin by the reaction with methacryloyl chloride. The synthesized dye was continuously grafted onto wool fabric at room temperature by UV irradiation. Several key parameters including UV energy, dye concentration and pH have been examined to understand their influence on the photoreactive coloration.
Dye-sensitized solar cells(DSSCs) have been under investigation for the past decade due to their attractive features such as high energy conversion efficiency and low production costs. The basis for energy conversion in the injection of electrons from a photoexcited stateof a dye sensitizer into the conduction band of the nanocrystalline $TiO_2$ semiconductor upon absorption of light. It is believed that the DSSC is one of the most promising technologies to solve the significant energy problems. In this article, the development trends and perspective of DSSCs were reviewed.
