  • The goal of wireless sensor networks is to collect sensing data on specific region over wireless communication. Sink node gathers all local sensing data, processes and transmits them to users who use sensor networks. Generally, senor nodes are low-cost, low power devices with limited sensing, computation and wireless communication capabilities. And sensor network applies to multi-hop communication on large-scale network. As neighboring sensor nodes have similar data, clustering is more effective technique for 'data-aggregation'. In cluster formation technique based on multi-hop, it is necessary that the number of cluster member nodes should be distributed equally because of the balance of cluster formation To achieve this, we propose a method to customize cluster member nodes for energy-efficiency in wireless sensor networks.

  • Navigation system based on indoor location estimation is one of the core technologies in mobile robot systems. Wireless sensor network has great potential in the indoor location estimation due to its characteristics such as low power consumption, low cost, and simplicity. In this paper we present an algorithm to estimate the indoor location of mobile robot based on wireless sensor network and fuzzy modeling. ZigBee-based sensor network usually uses RSSI(Received Signal Strength Indication) values to measure the distance between two sensor nodes, which are affected by signal distortion, reflection, channel fading, and path loss. Therefore we need a proper correction method to obtain accurate distance information with RSSI. We develop the fuzzy distance models based on RSSI values and an efficient algorithm to estimate the robot location which applies to the navigation algorithm incorporating the time-varying data of environmental conditions which are received from the wireless sensor network.

  • Water levels are measured in various fields such as sewage treatment plants, water treatment plants, rivers, dams, factory storages' tanks. Ultrasonic instruments for water level measurement are expensive and are used for industrial field. Rapid advances in electronics have made it possible to build a wide variety of measurement, monitoring and control functions at low cost. This study was started to make ultrasonic level measurement system at low price. The system was constructed with an Arduino, an ultrasonic sensor and a temperature sensor for use in the experiment. The ultrasonic sensor measures the time from the sensor to the liquid surface. The temperature sensor measures the atmospheric temperature and improves the accuracy of the ultrasonic distance measurement by correcting the sound speed. Arduino controls measurements and calculates the water level. All components of the system are assembled into a device holder. Experiments with this system show that the water level measured by the system is very close to the actual value. This system is also inexpensive and easy to install and maintain, making it suitable for laboratory use.

  • In this paper, the low price signal generator with capability of frequency high-resolution and variable sync pulse has implemented. It fulfils well the requirements for SS-OCT of the frequency resolution less than 1Hz, frequency stability of ${\leq}{\pm}0.5Hz$/10 min and variable sync pulse output timing. Through its performance test applied to wavelength swept laser, 120 nm sweeping range and 10 mW average optical power were obtained. This shows that the realized sine-wave generator can replace the commercial high cost and high performance signal generators employed by current SS-OCT systems.

  • Networked embedded systems using the smart device and fieldbus technologies are now found in many industrial fields including process automation and automobiles. However the discrepancy between a node's view of current time and the rest of the system can cause many difficulties in the design and implementation of a networked system. To provide a networked system with a global reference time, the problem of clock synchronization has been intensively studied over the decades. However, many of the existing solutions, which are mainly developed for large scale distributed computer systems, cannot be directly applied to embedded systems. This paper presents a fault-tolerant clock synchronization technique that can be used for a low-cost embedded system using a CAN bus. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated with a set of microcontrollers and DC motor-based actuators.

  • Cellulose based Electroactive Paper (EAPap) has been developed as a new smart material due to its advantages of piezoelectricity, large displacement, low power consumption, low cost and flexibility. EAPap can be used fur a surface acoustic wave (SAW) device using the piezoelectric property of EAPap, resulting in the cost effective and flexible SAW device. In this paper, inter digit transducer (IDT) structure using lift-off technique with a finger gap of $10{\mu}m$ was used for micro fabrication of the cellulose EAPap SAW devices. The performance of IDT patterned SAW device was characterized by a Network Analyzer. The feasibility of cellulose EAPap as a potential acoustic device was presented and explained.

  • This work is towards the development of a low-cost, small-sized inertial navigation system(INS) which consists of 3 accelerometers, 3 semiconductor gyros and a magnetic compass sensor. This paper explains in detail the structure of the developed system and proposes a 3 dimensional attitude estimation algorithm with Indirect Kalman Filter. The experiments are performed with the developed system attached to a 6 DOF robot for showing the effectiveness of the algorithm.

  • An attitude GPS receiver with 3 antennas obtains 3-dimensional attitude using GPS carrier phase measurement INS obtains the 3 dimensional navigation solution for IMU consisting of accelerometers and gyro. Ground-alignment process for the low -cost INS cannot be performed well due to the large sensor noise. Using the standard GPS receiver, however, continuous in-flight alignment for the INS becomes possible, and consequently, the errors in IMU sensors and navigation solution can be compensated. Especially with attitude measurement from the attitude GPS receiver, the compensation of errors in gyroscope and attitude would be done respite of the vehicle´s dynamics and their error covariance would be reduced. • The line-of-sight stabilization system is an equipment which is loaded on a vehicle and stabilizes the direction of the line-of-sight of the vision sensor to obtain a not-swayed image in the existence of external disturbances. To obtain accurate Euler angles and angular velocities simultaneously we usually need a control system which uses high-price inertial sensors including Vertical Gyro(VG) or Rate Integrating Gyro(RIG). In this paper, we design and implement a control system of a gimbal, which is a line-of-sight stabilization system using a low-cost mixed algorithm of a rate gyro and an accelerometer instead of a VG and a RIG. In the experiment where we laid the implemented line-of-sight stabilization system on the rate table. we can see the stabilized performance to external disturbances.
