The Moderating Effect of Perceived Control over Appearance in the Social Comparison Process with Advertisement Models (광고모델과의 사회적 비교과정에서 외모통제력 지각이 갖는 조정효과)

  • When women are exposed to images of other attractive women such as media models, it is known that many go through a social comparison process and a contrast effect occurs which results in unfavorable perception and attitudes toward the self. This paper suggests women's perception of control over their appearance as one of the factors that may moderate the contrast effect of a social comparison with attractive media models. An experiment with 211 women was conducted to examine the differential effect of viewing attractive models versus non-human images on the responses of women with high/low perceived control over appearance. A two(Stimuli Type: attractive-model image vs. non-human image) by two(Perceived Control over Appearance: High vs. Low) MANCOVA model was tested with physical appearance anxiety, self-esteem, and body satisfaction as dependent variables and appearance orientation, body mass index, age, years of schooling, ethnicity, and marital status as covariates. A significant Perceived Control main effect on Physical Appearance Anxiety and Self-Esteem and a significant Stimuli Type by Perceived Control interaction effect on Physical Appearance Anxiety and Self-Esteem were found. Those who perceived high control over their appearance were more likely to have higher self-esteem and lower appearance anxiety. However, among those who saw attractive model's images, women perceived low appearance control showed less anxiety and higher body satisfaction than those perceived high appearance control.

Comparison Evaluation of Image Quality with Different Thickness of Aluminum added Filter using GATE Simulation in Digital Radiography (GATE 시뮬레이션을 사용한 알루미늄 부가필터 두께에 따른 Digital Radiography의 영상 화질 비교 평가)

  • In X-ray image, the role of filtration through the filter is to reduce the exposure of the patient by using photon which is useful in formation of the image, and at the same time, enhance the contrast of the image. During interaction between photon and object, low energy X-rays are absorbed from the site of a few cm of the first patient's tissue, and high energy X-rays are the one which form the image. Therefore, the radiation filter absorbs low energy X-ray in order to lower the exposure of the patient and improve the quality of the image. The purpose of this study is to compare the effect on the image quality by differences of added filter through simulation image and actual radiation image. For that purpose, we used Geant4 Application for Tomographic Emission (GATE) as a tool for Monte Carlo simulation. We set actual size, shape and material of Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) Phantom on GATE and differentiated the parameter of added filter. Also, we took image of PMMA phantom with same parameter of added filter by digital radiography (DR). Than we performed contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) evaluation on both simulation image and actual DR image by Image J. Finally, we observed the effect on image quality due to different thickness of added filter, and compared two images' CNR evaluation's transitions of change. The result of this experiment showed decreasing in the progress of CNR on both DR and simulation image. It is ultimately caused by decreasing in contrast on image. In theory, contrast decrease with kVp increased. Given that condition, this study found out that filter makes not only decreasing total dose by absorbing low energy of X-ray, but also increasing average energy of X-ray.

A Study on Dose Reduction Method according to Slice Thickness Change using Automatic Exposure Controller and Manual Exposure in Intervention (인터벤션에서 자동노출제어장치와 수동노출 사용 시 두께 변화에 따른 선량감소 방안 연구)

  • We aims to perform comparative analysis on the dose area and image qualities varying on the slice thickness when using Automatic Exposure Controller (AEC) and manual exposure; thus, it wants to suggest a measure to reduce exposure dose by setting the optimal examination condition for each slice thickness. The method was to set the thickness as Thin, Normal, and Heavy adult and evaluate the dose area, spatial resolution, low contrast resolution, Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) and Contrast to Noise Ratio (CNR) according to each slice thickness by using the AEC and the manual exposure controller. The dose area according to each slice thickness all increased both when using the AEC and the manual exposure. However, the manual exposure showed lower dose area product than the AEC. Spatial resolutions and low contrast resolutions were all observed to be higher than the evaluation standard. Also, the SNR and CNR of each thickness all increased when using the AEC. When using the manual exposure, SNR and CNR increased in all cases other than the Heavy Adult. Consequently, the Thin and Normal Adult showed dose reduction about 2 times when using the manual exposure controller, while ensuring the image quality. Heavy adult was able to maintain good image quality by using AEC.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive watermarking algerian technique concerning the visual characteristics of human. To embed watermark to an image, features such as contrast, brightness, and texture are used. The propose method adaptively select blocks and determine the position and intensity of watermark to be applied, concerning the visual characteristics of a human.   • The purpose of this study is to determine the most effective image analysis technique for extraction of coastal flow patterns from LANDSAT MSS data. Choosing the coastal area of Incheon, LANDSAT MSS data of oceanic area, which has generally low values of CCT data in comparison with the adjacent land was used On the basis of the above preparation, the most effective image analysis procedure of LANDSAT MSS data for the case of extraction of coastal flow patterns has been obtained through contrast stretching, color composite, and compression of bi-band image data.

Location-Based Saliency Maps from a Fully Connected Layer using Multi-Shapes

  • Recently, with the development of technology, computer vision research based on the human visual system has been actively conducted. Saliency maps have been used to highlight areas that are visually interesting within the image, but they can suffer from low performance due to external factors, such as an indistinct background or light source. In this study, existing color, brightness, and contrast feature maps are subjected to multiple shape and orientation filters and then connected to a fully connected layer to determine pixel intensities within the image based on location-based weights. The proposed method demonstrates better performance in separating the background from the area of interest in terms of color and brightness in the presence of external elements and noise. Location-based weight normalization is also effective in removing pixels with high intensity that are outside of the image or in non-interest regions. Our proposed method also demonstrates that multi-filter normalization can be processed faster using parallel processing.

  • For low contrast images, a histogram equalization is possible to easily identify information when the intensity is concentrated in an image. Over contrast enhancement is the problem of generating an unnatural image cognitively because the focus of existing techniques was the contrast enhancement. In order to solve this problem, CLAHE method solves unnatural problems by limiting contrast using a maximum threshold. However, this method has an extra problem that concealed detail information in an image. This paper proposes a detail-map based on the multiple layers block overlapped histogram equalization in order to avoid loss of detail information. Loss of detail information has been made to minimize as combining images with limited contrast enhancement using a detail-map in each layers.

The Evaluation of Image Correction Methods for SPECT/CT in Various Radioisotopes with Different Energy Levels (SPECT/CT에서 서로 다른 에너지의 방사성동위원소 사용시 영상보정기법의 유용성 평가)

  • Purpose: To optimize correction method for SPECT/CT, image quality consisting of resolution and contrast was evaluated using three radioisotopes ($^{99m}Tc$, $^{201}Tl$ and $^{131}I$) and three different correction methods; attenuation correction (AC), scatter correction (SC) and both attenuation and scatter correction (ACSC). Materials and Methods: Images were acquired with a SPECT/CT scanner and a conventional CT protocol with an OESM reconstruction algorithm (2 iterations and 10 subsets). For resolution measurement, fixed radioactivity (2.22 kBq) was infused into a spatial resolution phantom and full width at half maximum (FWHM) was measured using a vendor-provided software. For contrast evaluation, radioactive source with a ratio of 1:8 to background was filled in a Flanged Jaszczak phantom and percent contrast (%) were calculated. All the parameters for image quality were compared with non-correction (NC) method. Results: As compared with NC, image resolution of all three isotopes were significantly improved by AC and ACSC, not by SC. In particular, ACSC showed better resolution than AC alone for $^{99m}Tc$ and $^{201}Tl$. Image contrast of all three radioisotopes in a sphere with the largest diameter were enhanced by all correction methods. ACSC showed the highest contrast in all three radioisotopes, which was the most accurate in $^{99m}Tc$ (85.9%). Conclusion: Image quality of SPECT/CT was improved in all the radioisotopes by CT-based attenuation correction methods, except SC alone. SC failed to improve resolution in any radioisotopes, but it was effective in contrast enhancement. ACSC would be the best correction method as it improved resolution in radioisotopes with low energy levels and contrast in radioisotope with low energy levels. However, in radioisotope with high energy level, AC would be better than ACSC for resolution improvement.

  • With the rapid development of the information communication technology, more and more distribution multimedia data and electronic publishing in the web, has created a need for the copyright protection with authentication of digital information. In this paper, we propose a multi-watermarking adding and adaptive spectral watermark algorithm well adaptive frequency domain of each hierarchical using orthogonal forward wavelet transform(FWT. Numerical test results, created watermarking image robustness not only image transform such as low-pass filtering, bluring, sharpen filtering, wavelet compression but also brightness, contrast gamma correction, histogram equalization, cropping.

  • An local adaptive image segmentatin algorithm for local feature detection and effective clustering of unimodal histogram shape are proposed. Local adaptive difference image and its histogram are obtained from the input image. The parameters are derived from the histogram and used for the segmentation based on relaxatin process. The results showed effective region segmentation and good noise cleaning for the ocular fundus fluorescein angiogram which has low contrast and unimodal histogram.
