압전에너지 하베스터 설치사업의 경제성 분석에 관한 연구 (A Cost-Benefit Analysis for the Installation of Piezoelectric Energy Harvester)

  • 본 연구에서는 경부고속도로 일부구간(신갈JC~수원신갈IC)에 압전에너지 하베스터를 설치한 후 수확된 전력으로 주거지의 가로등 전력을 대체하는 정책에 대한 비용편익분석을 실시하였다. 이때 비시장재효과인 하베스터 설치에 따른 주민의 사회적 편익은 구체적으로 지역 주민의 삶의 질 향상 효과, Blackout 대비효과 등을 포함하며 조건부가치측정법을 사용하여 추정하였다. 분석 결과 압전 에너지하베스팅 기술의 고속도로 적용은 사회적 편익효과를 고려하였을 때 경제성이 있는 것으로 나타났다.

Exploring a zero food waste system for sustainable residential buildings in urban areas

  • This study explores the environmentally innovative and low-impact technology, a zero food waste system (ZFWS) that utilizes food waste and converts it into composts or biofuels and curtails carbon emissions. The ZFWS not just achieves food waste reductions but recycles food waste into fertilizer. Based on a fermentation-extinction technique using bio wood chips, the ZFWS was employed in a field experiment of the system installed in a large-scale apartment complex, and the performance of the system was examined. The on-site ZFWS consisted of three primary parts: 1) a food waste slot into which food waste was injected; 2) a fermentation-extinction reactor where food waste was mixed with bio wood chips made up of complex enzyme and aseptic wood chips; and 3) deodorization equipment in which an ultraviolet and ozone photolysis method was employed. The field experiment showed that food waste injected into the ZFWS was reduced by 94%. Overall microbial activity of the food waste in the fermentation-extinction reactor was measured using adenosine tri-phosphate (ATP), and the degradation rate of organic compounds, referred to as volatile solids, increased with ATP concentration. The by-products generated from ZFWS comply with the national standard for organic fertilizer.

FT반응 Off-gas를 이용한 고압축비 전기점화 엔진의 연소 및 배기가스 특성에 관한 연구 (Combustion and Emission Characteristics in a High Compression Ratio Spark Ignition Engine using Off-gas from FT reaction)

  • FT process is a technology of chemical reactions that converts a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen into liquid hydrocarbons. During the FT process unreacted gas, known as Off-gas which has low-calorie, is discharged. In this study, we developed an engine that utilize simulated Off-gas, and studied the characteristics of the engine. The off-gas composition is assumed to be $H_2$ 70%, CO 15%, $CO_2$ 15% respectively. Under stoichiometric air-fuel ratio, the experiment was conducted at WOT and IMEP 0.3 Mpa changing compression ratio. Ignition timing was applied with MBT timing. Maximum indicated thermal efficiency 37% was achieved at compression ratio 15 under WOT. CO, $CO_2$ and $NO_x$ were influenced by changing compression ratio, and CO emission was satisfied with the US Tier 4 standard for nonroad engine over the entire experimental conditions.

발전용 미분탄 연소 보일러 화염감시장치의 현장적용에 관한 연구 (The study of plant application at flame management system with flame monitoring for pulverized coal firing boiler of thermal power plant)

  • The flame image processing and it's analysis system has been developed for optimal coal firing of thermal power plant, especially for reducing NOx and safe operations. We aimed at gaining the relationship between burner flame image, emissions of NOx and LOI(Loss on ignition) in furnace by utilizing the flame image processing methods. And the relationship determines quantitatively the conditions of combustion on the individual burners. The test was conducted on Samchonpo thermal power plant #4 unit(560MW) of KOSEP which has 24 burners. The system simplified the burner adjustment works in accordance with the real time trending of flame behavior like NOx profiles and unburned carbon profiles for individual burners. But, This kind of conventional method increases the cost as the number of burner are increased. Also there is a difficulty to measure exhausted gas of each burner because of measurement errors. This paper intends to propose the useful "Flame Monitoring System" that can find Low NOX and LOI at the upper furnace and to compare with the conventional System.

  • 지구환경 개선을 위한 저탄소 배출 및 그린에너지에 관심이 높아지고 있으며, 이를 이루기 위한 기존의 전력망에 IT기술을 결합하여 보다 효율적이고 친환경적인 지능형 전력망을 이루는 스마트 그리드 사업이 전 세계적으로 활발히 전개되고 있다. 스마트 그리드는 양방향 디지털 기술을 사용하여 공급 업체와 소비자 사이에 전기를 제공하며, 소비자 집에 있는 지능형 가전이나, 에너지 절약 비용을 절감하고 안정성, 효율성 및 투명성을 높이기 위해 필요하며, 앞으로 지속적으로 발전될 것을 예상한다. 하지만, 스마트 그리드를 구축하기 위해서 반드시 선행되어야 하는 사항인 보안 모델을 구축하여 지능형 전력망을 안전하고 효율적으로 사용되도록 구축하는 방안을 제시하는 연구이다.

이산화탄소 저감형 시멘트 함량에 따른 경량기포 콘크리트의 물성평가 (Effect of Carbon Dioxide-reduced Cement on Properties of Lightweight-foamed Concrete)

  • To improve the initial strength and stability of lightweight-foamed concrete, which shows suitable sound absorption and insulation characteristics, the effect of CO2-reduced cement on the properties of the concrete was investigated. Various mixing ratios were applied by substituting a certain amount of slag and Calcium Sulfo Aluminate (CSA) in CO2-reduced Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and the physical properties of the samples were examined using the Korean Standard. The kiln temperatures of the CSA were 100-200℃ ; these values are lower than those of OPC and can lead to energy saving. In addition, the low limestone content reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 20 %. Adding a small amount of CSA in OPC content activates Ca-Al-H2-based hydrates, and the initial compressive strength of the concrete is improved. As the CSA content increased, the thermal conductivity of the concrete decreased by up to 8% compared to plain concrete, thus indicating an improvement in its insulation. Therefore, the settlement stability was improved as the addition of CSA shortened the setting time.

Evaluation and future predictions of air pollutants level in Karachi city

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the present air pollutant concentrations and predicted levels for next 30 years in urban environment of Karachi city. For that, a total of fifty measurements were made for each twenty selected locations of the city. The locations were selected on the basis of land use pattern such as residential, commercial, industrial settlements, open areas, congested traffic and low traffic areas for investigation of air pollutants variability and intensity. The measurements were taken continuously for six months period using PM Meter, Model AEROCET 531 and Ambient Air Quality Meter, Model AAQ 7545. The concentration of air pollutants were found higher at Al Asif Square and Maripur Road due to higher intensity of traffic and at Korangi Crossing because of industrial areas. The level of pollutants was lower at Sea View owing to lower traffic congestion and transportation of pollutants by sea breezes.

대형디젤엔진 배출가스 저감을 위한 DPF의 재생특성 연구 (A Study on Characteristics of DPF for Heavy-duty Diesel Engine on Pollutant Emission Reduction)

  • The combustion purpose of diesel engine is to reduce the emission of green gas and to produce high output. Generally, the regulation matter of emission gas is largely diveded by 'THC', 'NOx', 'CO' and 'PM'. Among those matters, the most problem is to disgorge into 'PM', the character of diesel combustion. Diesel PM can be controlled using Diesel Particulate Filter, which can effectively reduce the level of soot emissions to ambient background levels. $NO_2$ generated by the DOC is used to combust the carbon collected in the DPF at low temperature. To certificate DPF device that is suitable to domestic circumstances, it is necessary to exactly evaluate the DPF devices according to the regulation of DPF certificate test procedure fur retrofit. To do carry out the above-mentioned description the understanding of that regulation like the standard of PM reduction is needed. In this study the test procedure including test cycle and BPT test condition was examined, and also the test result for specific DPF was analyzed. In every test like field test, PM reduction efficiency test and Seoul-10 mode test, no defect was showed.

DC 저온플라즈마를 이용한 디젤엔진 유해 배기가스 저감에 관한 실험적 연구 (The Experimental Study on the Removal of Diesel Engine Pollutant Emissions Using DC Non-Thermal-Plasma(NTP))

  • The diesel engine exhaust gas is know as one of the causes to produce photochemical smog, which causes damage on environmental. However, due to the high thermal efficiency and low carbon dioxide emission, the usage of a diesel engine is prevailed. In this study, the DC non-thermal plasma technology used to the particulate matter (PM) aftertreatment. The exhaust gas characteristics and energy density were investigated on the dynamometer test bed and chassis dynamometer with CVS-75 mode in a passenger diesel car. It was reported that the smoke removal efficiency has around the 70% in the dynamometer test with 80W energy consumption and the PM removal efficiency has the 68% in the real car test. The NOx also reduced the 20% according to electrode type respectively. Considering these results, plasma technology is one of the ways to simultaneously removing method the particulate matter (PM) and NOx.

Sustainable energy action plans of medium-sized municipalities in north Greece

  • The covenant of Mayors initiative includes the commitment of the municipalities-signatories to reduce voluntarily the greenhouse gas emissions over 20--- by 2020 within their boundaries and obligates them to develop and submit an energy consumption analysis and a sustainable energy action plan within a year from the adhesion. The present paper discusses the energy profile of three medium-sized north-eastern Greek Municipalities (Kavala-MoK, Alexandroupolis-MoA, Drama-MoD) through the analysis of their municipal energy balance. The results of the total final energy consumption per capita include 14.10MWh/capita, 14.24MWh/capita and 12.91MWh/capita for MoK, MoA and MoD respectively. The analysis highlighted the increased energy consumption of the private sectors, namely residential and tertiary building sand private transport. The assessment of the municipalities' energy profiles along with examination of national regulations and action plans and investigation of best available practices within the Covenant of Mayors shaped the development of the sustainable energy action plans of the examined municipalities that is presented in this paper. The proposed pathway towards low-carbon municipalities can be considered a representative case study and a starting point for other municipalities with similar characteristics.
