국내 저온수전해 수소생산의 경제성 평가 (Economic Evaluation of Domestic Low-Temperature Water Electrolysis Hydrogen Production)

  • This paper deals with an economic evaluation of domestic low-temperature water electrolysis hydrogen production. We evaluate the economic feasibility of on-site hydrogen fueling stations with the hydrogen production capacity of 30 $Nm^3/hr$ by the alkaline and the polymer electrolyte membrane water electrolysis. The hydrogen production prices of the alkaline water electrolysis, the polymer electrolyte membrane water electrolysis, and the steam methane reforming hydrogen fueling stations with the hydrogen production capacity of 30 $Nm^3/hr$ were estimated as 18,403 $won/kgH_2$, 22,945 $won/kgH_2$, 21,412 $won/kgH_2$, respectively. Domestic alkaline water electrolysis hydrogen production is evaluated as economical for small on-site hydrogen fueling stations, and we need to further study the economic evaluation of low-temperature water electrolysis hydrogen production for medium and large scale on-site hydrogen fueling stations.

  • Hydrogen embrittlement of a pipe is an important factor in hydrogen transport. To characterize hydrogen embrittlement, tensile and fracture toughness tests should be conducted. However, in the case of hydrogen-embrittled materials, it is difficult to perform tests in hydrogen environment, particularly at low temperatures. It would be useful to develop a methodology to predict the fracture toughness of hydrogen-embrittled materials at low temperatures using more efficient tests. In this study, the fracture toughness of API X52 steels in hydrogen at low temperatures is predicted from numerical simulation using coupled finite element (FE) damage analyses with FE diffusion analysis, calibrated by analyzing small punch test data.

  • This study examined how varying tempering temperatures affect the susceptibility of Cr-Mo low alloy steels to hydrogen embrittlement. A slow strain-rate test (SSRT) was carried out on the steels electrochemically pre-charged with hydrogen in order to examine the hydrogen embrittlement behavior. The results showed that the hydrogen embrittlement resistance of the Cr-Mo low alloy steels improved with increasing tempering temperature. Thermal desorption analysis (TDA) revealed that diffusible hydrogen content decreased with increasing tempering temperature, accompanied by a slight increase in the peak temperature. This decrease in hydrogen content was likely due to a reduction in dislocation density which served as reversible hydrogen trap sites. These findings underline the significant role of tempering temperature in enhancing the hydrogen embrittlement resistance of Cr-Mo low alloy steels.

저선회 연소기에서 합성천연가스(SNG) 연료의 수소함량에 따른 연소 특성 연구 (A Study on the Combustion Characteristics with Hydrogen Contents of SNG Fuel in Low-Swirl Combustor)

  • This paper describes experimental results on combustion characteristics with hydrogen contents of synthetic natural gas (SNG) in low swirl combustor. To investigate the effect of hydrogen contents for premixed SNG flame, stability map, CH chemiluminescence images, flame spectrum analysis and emission performances were measured. In the results, as the hydrogen content was increased, the lean flammable limit was expanded and the flame length was decreased. The hydrogen contents affected the flame liftoff height, and it has different tendency according to the equivalence ratio and flame shape. The change of height and length of flame according to hydrogen contents is caused by the fast burning velocity of hydrogen, which can be confirmed by GRI 3.0 reaction mechanism in PREMIX code. The intensity of $OH^*$, $CH^*$ and $C_2^*$ was confirmed by spectrum analysis of flame. As a result, the $CH^*$ intensity was not significantly different according to hydrogen content. The increase of hydrogen contents influenced positively CO and NOx emission performances.

장주기/대용량 저장을 위한 액체/고체(Slush) 수소 생산 장치의 해외기술 동향분석 (Technical Review on Liquid/Solid (Slush) Hydrogen Production Unit for Long-Term and Bulk storage)

  • Hydrogen is currently produced from natural gas reforming or industrial process of by-product over than 90%. Additionally, there are green hydrogens based on renewable energy generation, but the import of green hydrogen from other countries is being considered due to the output variability depending on the weather and climate. Due to low density of hydrogen, it is difficult to storage and import hydrogen of large capacity. For improving low density issue of hydrogen, the gaseous hydrogen is liquefied and stored in cryogenic tank. Density of hydrogen increase from 0.081 kg/m3 to 71 kg/m3 when gaseous hydrogen transfer to liquid hydrogen. Density of liquid hydrogen is higher about 800 times than gaseous. However, since density and boiling point of liquid hydrogen is too lower than liquefied natural gas approximately 1/6 and 90 K, to store liquid hydrogen for long-term is very difficult too. To overcome this weakness, this paper introduces storage method of hydrogen based on liquid/solid (slush) and facilities for producing slush hydrogen to improve low density issue of hydrogen. Slush hydrogen is higher density and heat capacity than liquid hydrogen, can be expected to improve these issues.

  • A hydrogen enriched CNG engine can be stably operated at ultra lean condition and reduce emission extremely. It also has advantage to increase gradually the use of hydrogen for the coming hydrogen-energy age. In this studies, the combustion and emission characteristics of heavy-duty hydrogen-CNG engine were investigated to verify the enhancement of performance by enriched hydrogen into natural gas. The results showed that a hydrogen-CNG engine could achieve ultra lean operation and low emission, while power was reduced by the decrease of intake air flow.

  • Recently, one of the hydrogen production methods has attracted using dense metallic membrane. It has high hydrogen permeation and selectivity which hardly could adopt industrial product because of high cost, hydrogen embrittlment and thermal stability. Meanwhile, vanadium has high hydrogen solubility and it use to instead of Pd-Ag amorphous membrane. Aluminum carried out blocking hydrogen diffusion on grain boundary therefore protecting hydrogen embrittlement. Most of dense metallic membrane is solution diffusion mechanism. The solution diffusion mechanism was very similar hydrogen storing steps such as steps of metal hydride. Thus, V-Al composites were fabricated to use hydrogen induced mechanical alloying. The fabricated V-Al composites were characterized by XRD, SEM, EDS and simultaneous TG/DSC analyses. The hydrogenation behaviors were evaluated using a Sievert's type automatic PCT apparatus. The hydrogenation behaviors of V-Al composites was evaluated too low hydrogen stored capacity and fast hydrogenation kinetics. In PCI results, V-Al composites had low hydrogen solubility, in spite of that, hydrogen kinetics was calculated very fast and hydrogen absorption/desorption contents were same capacity.

  • 수소의 일반적인 특성과 온도 변화에 따른 ortho-수소와 para-수소의 비율에 대하여 살펴보았다. 수소의 독특한 특성인 넓은 연소 영역, 낮은 점화 에너지, 낮은 최대역전온도 및 수소 취성을 소개하였다. 예냉과 팽창 엔진을 사용하는 액체 수소 제조 방법과 촉매를 이용한 ortho-para 변환을 살펴보았으며, 액체로켓 추진제로서의 특성과 고려해야 할 사항들을 검토하였다.

산소희박환경에서 과산화수소를 이용한 디젤개질 가능성 탐구 (Study on Possibility of Diesel Reforming with Hydrogen Peroxide in Low-Oxygen Environments)

  • 잠수함 및 수중무인체계 등의 산소희박환경에서 연료전지를 통한 효과적인 전력생산을 위해서는 높은 수소저장밀도를 갖는 수소공급원이 필요하다. 디젤연료는 액체연료로서 저장 및 공급이 용이하며, 연료전지의 연료가 되는 수소의 단위질량 및 단위부피당 저장밀도가 높은 장점을 갖고 있다. 이러한 디젤연료의 장점을 기반으로 본 연구에서는 산소희박환경에서 수소생산을 위해 디젤연료의 개질반응을 이용하였으며, 산화제로 단위부피당 산소 저장밀도가 높고 액상으로 보관이 용이한 과산화수소 수용액을 기존의 산화제인 물과 산소의 대체산화제로 이용하는 방법을 제안하였다. 과산화수소 수용액의 디젤개질 산화제로써의 특성을 파악하기 위해 물, 공기 산화제와의 비교실험을 진행하였으며, 기존의 산화제와 디젤 개질반응 시 동일한 특성을 갖는 것을 실험적으로 확인하였다. 또한 상용디젤을 연료로 온도 및 과산화수소 수용액의 농도에 따른 개질성능을 평가하였으며, 49시간의 가속 열화실험을 통하여 디젤, 과산화수소 수용액을 이용한 수소생산의 가능성을 확인하였다.

Methodological Study on Measurement of Hydrogen Abundance in Hydrogen Isotopes System by Low Resolution Mass Spectrometry

  • China's rapid economic growth has resulted in significant environmental side effects. Therefore, China has been interested in reducing her dependence on foreign oil and gas by developing technologies needed for hydrogen, in addition to her increasing energy mix of nuclear and renewable energy form, such as solar and wind power. There are three isotopes of hydrogen, i.e. protium (P or H), deuterium (D), and tritium (T). Both deuterium and tritium are important materials in nuclear fuel cycle industry. Tritium is one of the critical radioactive nuclides. Planning for and implementing contamination control as a part of normal operation and maintenance activities is an important function in any hydrogen facility, especially tritium facility. The development of hydrogen isotopes analysis is the key issues in this area. Mass spectrometry (MS) with medium (about 600) and high resolution (> 1,400) is commercially available; however, the routine analysis of hydrogen isotopes is done with low-resolution MS (< 200) in China. This paper summarizes the progress of MS measurement technology for hydrogen isotope abundance in China, focusing on our lab's research program and technical status. An analyzing method has been introduced for accurate measurement of tritium abundance in the H.D.T system by low resolution MAT-253 MS. The quotient of compression ratio coefficient is determined by building up equipment for laboratory-scale preparation of secondary standard gases and by considering the difference in sensitivity between hydrogen isotopes. The results show that the measured value is reproducible within the relative error range of 0.8% for gas samples of different tritium abundance.
