  • In this paper, low phase noise VCO using novel compact microstrip spiral resonator is proposed. A spiral resonator has super compact dimension, low insertion losses in the passband and high level of rejection in the stopband with sharp cutoff and a large coupling coefficient value, which makes a high Q value, and has reduced the phase noise. To increase the tuning range of VCO, varactor diode has been connected at the tunable negative resistance in VCO. This VCO has presented the oscillation frequency of $5.686{\sim}5.841GHz$, harmonics -29.83 dBc and phase noise of $-115.16{\sim}-115.17dBc/Hz$ at the offset frequency of 100 KHz.

  • High data-rate underwater communications is demanded. This demand imposes stringent requirements on underwater communication equipment of phase-locked-loop (PLL). Phase noise in PLL is unwanted and unavoidable. In this paper, we investigate the PLL phase noise effect on high order QAM for underwater communication systems. The phase noise model using power spectral density is adopted for performance evaluation. The phase noise components considered in PLL are reference oscillator, voltage controlled oscillator (VCO), filter and divider. The filters in PLL noise are assumed to be second order active and passive low pass filters. Through simulation, we analyze the phase noise characteristics of the four components and then investigate the performance improvement factor of each component. Consequently, we derive specifications of VCO, phase detector, divider to meet performance requirement of high data-rate communication using QAM under phase noise influence.

  • In this paper, we have proposed a phase noise model of fast frequency hopping synthesizer with DDS Driven PLL architecture. To accurately model the phase noise contribution of noise sources in frequency hopping synthesizer, they were investigated using model of digital divider for PLL, DAC for DDS and Leeson's model for reference oscillator and VCO. Especially it was proposed that the noise component of low pass filter was considered together with the phase noise of VCO. Under assuming linear operation of a phase locked loop, the phase noise transfer functions from noise sources to the output of synthesizer was analyzed by superposition theory. The proposed phase noise prediction model was evaluated and its results were compared with measured data.

  • This paper has presented a low phase noise oscillator using a square open loop with microstrip structure. A square open loop resonator has a large coupling coefficient value, which makes a high Q value, and has reduced phase noise. This oscillator has presented the oscillation frequency of 5.84 GHz, harmonics of -15.83 dBc and the phase noise of -111.17 dBc/Hz at the offset frequency of 100 kHz. In conclusion, the proposal structure has improved phase noise of 15 dB at the offset frequency of 100 kHz compared with the conventional structure of oscillator.

  • In this paper, a VCDRO (Voltage Control Dielectric Resonator Oscillator) with low phase noise for X-band application has been designed and fabricated. A low noise and low flicker noise MESFET and a high Q dielectric resonator were selected to obtain good phase noise Performance. Also, a varactor diode having high Q, qualify factor was used to reduce the loading effects and a big Gamma of diode was chosen for linearity of frequency over voltage tuning range. The fabricated circuits was simulated with circuit design tools, ADS to provide the optimum performances. As the measured results of fabricated oscillator, the output power was 5.8 ㏈m at center frequency 12.05㎓ and harmonic suppression -30㏈c, phase noise -114 ㏈c at 100 KHz offset frequency, respectively, and the frequency tuning range as the function of valtage applied to varactor diode was 15.2 MHz and its power variation with frequency was 0.2 ㏈. This oscillator could be available to a local oscillator in X-band.

  • This paper presents a fully integrated 5 GHz band low phase noise LC tank VCO. The implemented VCO is tuned by integrated PN diodes and tuning rage is 5.01∼5.30 GHz with 0∼3 V control voltage. For improved phase noise performance, a LC filtering technique is adapted. The measured phase noise is -87.8 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset frequency and -111.4 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset frequency which is excellent performance. Moreover phase noise is improved by 5 dB after employing the LC filter. It is the first experimental result in field of InGaP/GaAs HBT VCOs. The figure of merit of the fabricated VCO with LC filter is -172.1 dBc/Hz. It is the best result among 5 GHz InGaP HBT VCOs. Moreover this work shows lower DC power consumption, higher output power and more fixed output power compared with previous 4, 5 GHz band InGaP HBT VCOs.

  • In this paper, local oscillator in K band using low frequency noise upconversion gain anaylsis was designed and measured. We extended Two Signal Method(TSM) to estimate upconversion gain and resulting phase noise. To confirm the validity of the proposed method, a free-running oscillator which had low upconversion gain was designed. The measured oscillation frequency was 23.42 GHz and phase noise at 1 MHz of offset was -105.2 dBc/Hz. Also, this oscillator was operated for subharmonic injection locked osci1lator(SILO). In this case, SILO showed ideal frequency multiplier phase noise characteristics at low subharmonic injection power level.

  • Multi-wavelength holography has a better axial range than single-wavelength holography, thus allowing unambiguous phase imaging. Noise amplification is the limiting factor in multi-wavelength holography as noise is amplified by a factor equivalent to the magnification of the wavelengths. Here, we propose a new algorithm to remove noise amplification in multi-wavelength holography. The proposed method does not use phase unwrapping and removes $2{\pi}$ ambiguities. Experiments and numerical simulations indicated that the proposed method is fast, has low noise, and is useful for measuring samples with arbitrary step heights.

  • The low phase noise frequency source to be used for measurements and so on realizes by oscillator having highly output signal power against output noise power. SAW devices can be used by high power than BAW devices. So we examine on configuration of SAW oscillator circuits with the power gain. In this paper we shall discuss a configuration of oscillator circuit to obtain an extremely low phase noise and an oscillator operating at a non-reactive frequency of SAW resonator.
