Development of the Hybrid Type Robot Using a Pneumatic Actuator For Physical Therapy Of Ankylosis (관절 경직 환자의 물리 치료를 위한 공압 구동형 하이브리드 로봇 개발)

  • In this paper. the pneumatic service robot with a hybrid type is developed. A pneumatic has the advantages of good compliance , high Payload-to-weight and payload-to-volume ratios. high speed and force capabilities. Using pneumatic actuators. which have low stiffness. the service robot can guarantee safety. By suggesting a new serial-parallel hybrid type for the service robot which separates into Positioning motion and orienting motion, we can achieve large workspace and high strength-to-moving-weight ratio at the same time. A sliding mode controller can be designed for tracking the desired output using the Lyapunov stability theory and structural properties of pneumatic servo systems. Through many experiments of circular trajectory. the Pneumatic service robot is evaluated and verified.

The Relationship between $^{129}Xe$ NMR Chemical Shifts and Nanostructure of Polymers

  • In this study, the microvoids in glassy polymers were investigated by Xe sorption and $^{129}Xe$ NMR measurements. Xe sorption isotherms of glassy polymers have been successfully interpreted by the dual-mode sorption model. $^{129}Xe$ NMR chemical shift of the $^{129}Xe$ in the samples show nonlinear low-field shift with increasing sorption amount of Xe because of a fast exchange of Xe atoms between Henry and Langmuir sites, whereas it has showed linear shift against sorption amount of Xe into the Langmuir site. From this Xe-density dependence of the $^{129}Xe$ NMR chemical shift, it has been able to estimate mean size of the microvoids in glassy polymer. It is confirmed that there is correlation between ${C_H}'$ and volume or number of microvoids. From these findings, it is demonstrated that $^{129}Xe$ NMR spectroscopy is a powerful technique to determine the mean size and number of microvoids in glassy polymers.

Evolutionary Feature of Spray Droplets Exiting from a Direct-Injection Type Thruster Nozzle-Orifice (직접분사방식 추력기 노즐오리피스로부터 발생하는 분무입자의 발달특성)

  • Spray characteristic parameters such as droplet mean velocity, diameter, and volume flux are measured at various locations of spray in order to investigate the evolutionary feature of droplets exiting from a direct-injection type thruster nozzle-orifice. The experimental results indicate that the large droplets with high velocity at the center of upstream are broken-up into smaller droplets with low velocity due to their continuous momentum loss to surrounding air along with spray evolution toward downstream. Also it is found that the high volume flux expands its distribution in radial direction as a results of spray spreading and dispersion.

  • In this study, the TSC spectroscopy has been applied to investigate the influence of structural change due to a process of curing reaction on the electrical properties of epoxy composites cured with acid-anhydride. Five TSC peaks appeared in -160-250[.deg.C]: in the low temperature region below glass transition temperature(T$\_$g/), three relaxation mode peaks due to action of side chains, substitution group or terminal groups have been observed, a peak associated with T$\_$g/, appeared in 110[.deg. C] and p peak due to ionic space charges located in 150[.deg.C]. Each peak was separated into elementary peaks by the partial polarization procedure, and the distribution of activation energy and relaxation time were analized to clearify the origin of each peak. Also, overaboundantly added hardener separated a .betha. peak near 10[.deg. C] into two peaks of .betha.$\_$1/(10.deg. C) and .betha.$\_$2/(20.deg. C) according to increasement of forming field, and the separated hardener was oxidated thermally with increasing surrounding temperatures. The expansion of the free volume need in molecular motion and the reduction of the structural packing density through thermal oxidation process increased TSC between .alpha. peak and .betha. peak and decreased T$\_$g/.

Active Structural Acoustical Control of a Smart Panel Using Direct Velocity Feedback (직접속도 피드백을 이용한 지능판의 능동구조음향제어)

  • This paper presents a study of low frequencies volume velocity vibration control of a smart panel in order to reduce sound transmission. A distributed piezoelectric quadratically shaped polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) polymer film is used as a uniform force actuator and an array of $4\;{\times}\;4$ accelerometer is used as a volume velocity sensor for the implementation of a single-input single-output control system. The theoretical and experimental study of sensor-.actuator frequency response function shows that this sensor-actuator arrangement provides a required strictly positive real frequency response function below about 900 Hz. Direct velocity feedback could therefore be implemented with a limited gain which gives reductions of about 15 dB in vibration level and about 8 dB in acoustic power level at the (1,1) mode of the smart panel. It has been also shown that the shaping error of PVDF actuator could limit the stability and performance of the control system.

Combustion Characteristics of Premixed Combustor using Nickel Based Metal Foam (니켈합금 Metal Foam을 적용한 예혼합 버너의 연소특성)

  • A premixed combustion has many advantages including low NOx and CO emission, high thermal efficiency and a small volume of combustor. This study focused on combustion characteristics in a premixed combustion burner using the nickel based metal foam. The results show that the blue flame is found to be very stable at heating load 6,300-25,200 kcal/h by implementing the proper nickel based metal foam and baffle plate. The premixed flame mode is changed into green flame, red flame, blue flame and lift off flame with decreasing equivalence ratio. NOx emission was measured 80 ppm(0% oxygen base) from 0.710 to 0.810 of equivalence ratio and CO emission is 90 ppm(0% oxygen base) under the same equivalence ratio. It is also found that the stable blue flame region in flame stability curve becomes wider with increasing the heat load.

Experimental Study on the Effects of Low Viscosity Engine Oils on Fuel Economy (엔진오일의 저점도화가 차량 연비에 미치는 영향에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to study the fuel economy improvement experimentally when the viscosity of engine oil is lowered. The emissions are measured for CVS-75 mode with SAE viscosity grades. The test results indicate that a close correlation has been found between the engine oil viscosity and the fuel economy. The lowering of engine oil viscosity causes the reduction of friction loss which has a very close relation with the fuel economy. These results as the lowering of engine oil viscosity will be a important factor for improvement of the fuel economy and reduction of the $CO_2$ emission.

  • An improved single-phase full-bridge zero-voltage-switching inverter using a subtractive coupled magnetics is proposed in this paper. The proposed topology overcomes several drawbacks of the conventional ARCPI zero-voltage-switching inverter including two bulky capacitors which can cause problems such as the need for a protection circuit and voltage fluctuation of split capacitors. Also the proposed topology can reduce the number of devices required for ZVS through a simplified auxiliary circuit, thus achieving low cost and small volume and is applicable a modified unipolar PWM scheme. Detail mode analysis and design considerations are provided for optimal efficiency. In the end, the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed topology are verified experimentally under various conditions.

Improving buckling response of the square steel tube by using steel foam

  • Steel tubes have an efficient shape with large second moment of inertia relative to their light weight. One of the main problems of these members is their low buckling resistance caused from having thin walls. In this study, steel foams with high strength over weight ratio is used to fill the steel tube to beneficially modify the response of steel tubes. The linear eigenvalue and plastic collapse FE analysis is done on steel foam filled tube under pure compression and three point bending simulation. It is shown that steel foam improves the maximum strength and the ability of energy absorption of the steel tubes significantly. Different configurations with different volume of steel foam and composite behavior is investigated. It is demonstrated that there are some optimum configurations with more efficient behavior. If composite action between steel foam and steel increases, the strength of the element will improve, in a way that, the failure mode change from local buckling to yielding.
