This paper proposes a genetic algorithm (GA) approach to instance selection in case-based reasoning (CBR) for the prediction of Korea Stock Price Index (KOSPI). CBR has been widely used in various areas because of its convenience and strength in complex problem solving. Nonetheless, compared to other machine learning techniques, CBR has been criticized because of its low prediction accuracy. Generally, in order to obtain successful results from CBR, effective retrieval of useful prior cases for the given problem is essential. However, designing a good matching and retrieval mechanism for CBR systems is still a controversial research issue. In this paper, the GA optimizes simultaneously feature weights and a selection task for relevant instances for achieving good matching and retrieval in a CBR system. This study applies the proposed model to stock market analysis. Experimental results show that the GA approach is a promising method for instance selection in CBR.

Density functional theory (DFT) calculations using the B3LYP hybrid functional and the 6-311++G(d,p) basis set have been performed to predict the wavelength dispersion of optical absorbance and refractive indices for organic compounds and polymers in the range between the vacuum UV (${\sim}157\;nm$) and near-IR (${\sim}850\;nm$). The DFT calculations can reproduce the experimental dispersions of absorbance and refractive indices with high accuracy and low costs. The calculated dispersions demonstrate that the judicious introductions of $-F\;and\;-CF_{3}$ into alicyclic and heterocyclic compounds are effective in reducing the absorption at shorter wavelengths. In addition, the calculated Abbe numbers that represent the refractive index dispersion in the visble region are linearly proportional to the calculated refractive indices at 589 nm.

The Output feedback linear quadratic regulator control is applied to the design of active suspension system using 7 DOF full car model. The performance index reflects the vehicle vertical movement, pitch and roll motion, and minimization of suspension stroke displacements in the rattle space. The elements of gain matrix are approximately decoupled so that each suspension requires only local information to generate the control force. The simulation results indicates that the output feedback LQ controller is more effective than purely passive or full state feedback active LQ controllers in following the road profile at the low frequency range and suppressing the road disturbance at the high frequency ranges.

Purpose: This study was conducted to determine the predictors of cultural sensitivity for nursing students in Korea. Methods: The participants in this study were 332 nursing students. Data collection was conducted through the use of questionnaires which were constructed to include a Cultural Sensitivity Scale, Knowledge of Culture, Interpersonal Reaction Index, and Self-efficacy Scale. Results: Results showed that cultural sensitivity of nursing students was middle range. Knowledge level of culture was very low. There was a significant positive correlation between cultural sensitivity and knowledge of culture, empathy, and self-efficacy. The significant factors influencing cultural sensitivity of nursing students were empathy, self-efficacy, experience of an overseas trip and awareness of cultural education. These four factors explained 23.8% of the variance in cultural sensitivity of nursing students. Conclusion: These results indicate that cultural sensitivity is an important link with empathy and self-efficacy in nursing students. For nursing students to enhance cultural sensitivity, a transcultural nursing curriculum needs to develop for appropriate and effective services in cross-cultural situations of the multicultural families in Korea.

For the high power variable speed applications, the DCTLI(diode clamped three-level inverter) have been widely used. This paper describes the analysis of the neutral point current of the DCTLI and the improved space vector-based PWM strategy considering the switching frequency of power devices, that minimizes the fluctuation of the neutral point current in spite of high modulation index region and low power factor. It contributes to decrease the capacitance of dc-link capacitor bank and to increase the neutral point voltage controllable region. Especially, even if second (or even) order harmonic is induced in load current (at this situation, is was investigated that the general control method can not suppress the neutral point voltage variation), this PWM can provide effective control method to suppress the neutral point voltage variation. Various simulation results by means of Matlab/Simulation are presented to verify the proposed PWM.

This study is designed to evaluate the effect of conservative oriental medical treatment with Kyungkuen Chuna for Herniated intervertebral lumber disc(HIVD) patient. The improvement of the patient was evaluated by Range of Motion(ROM), Straight Leg Rasing Test(SLRT), Visual Analogue Scale(VAS), Oswestry Low-back Pain Disability Index(ODI). After conservative oriental medical treatment with Kyungkuen Chuna, ROM, SLRT, VAS and ODI were significantly improved. It is suggested that Conservative oriental medical treatment with Kyungkuen Chuna could be effective methods to treat the HIVD patient.

Objectives: The childhood obesity causes not only physical problems but also psychosocial ones, thus making it difficult to treat than adult obesity. To prove this, study was performed to examine an obese child who was on an oriental medical treatment. Methods: This study was based on the obese child, visited the oriental medical center from March 13th, 2010 to December 22th, 2010. The patient has taken herbal medicine, moxibution, low frequency acupuncture, auricular therapy, and behavior modification. Results: While the patient was treated, his Body weight, Body Mass Index, Fat percents were reduced and the effect lingered for five more months since the treatment. Conclusions: This study shows that herbal medicine is effective on developmental disorder induced. However, further clinical studies are needed.

This paper conducted an analysis of economic effects of offshore wind power in Korea with benefit/cost analysis. The existing feed-on tariff, which was too low to support wind power development, was recently replaced with a Renewable Portfolio Standard(RPS), effective from 2012. According to the new regulatory policy, The Korean government has announced a strategy to draw investments worth for offshore wind farms with a total capacity of 2.5 GW over the next eight years, which is expected the change of cost and benefit. After overview the offshore wind power development status, The effects on cost can be divided by economic, environmental and social factors. Each factor will be calculated and combined by both evaluating index and using Quantification methods. At the end, the implication for the evaluation of feasibility of offshore wind power of Korea will be done.

A lot of recent researches have shown that a Pseudo Random Binary Signal is a quite effective test signal to measure the impulse response of a plant. Generally speaking, however, such a response itself is not satisfactory to determine the appropriate control parameters or control inputs. Here, the author intends to estimate the unknown parameters of the First Order Plant with Dead Time by means of correlation method using M-sequence signal. The time constant T and the dead time L of the plant are eatimated with one tracking loop by automatically adjusting delay time .tau. of M-sequence signal according to variations of T and L. In this paper, a three level M-sequence signal is used as a test signal in order to avoid troublesome operations to calculate partial derivatives of a given performance index with respect to the parameters which are usually required in the Model Method. Several experiments with analogue computer using low pass filters as averaging circuits showed good results as expected.

Due to the fact that there are low birth rate and longer life longevity, schools have been shutting down and converted into welfare facilities. However, most of researches about utilizing closed down school are focused on case researches or architectural planning and design. Moreover, majority of existing welfare centers for the aged are not designed with the flow of human traffic in mind, which means there is no consideration of physical or psychological characteristics of elderly people. That fact leads to increasing number of shutting down welfare facilities. Therefore, this thesis will present the necessity of effective space allocation, extension and reconstruction for residents in aged care by analyzing space using index of space syntax with depth-map software.
