This paper presents that generation and propagation mechanism of low frequency current ripples generated by a rectification effect of an inverter in fuel cell generation system is analyzed. The ripple reduction methode using hardware components such as capacitors and inductors is examined to reduce low frequency current ripples. A new fast and robust low frequency current ripple elimination algorithm is then proposed to incorporate a single loop current controller, which directly controls fuel cell current, without any extra hardware. The proposed algorithm can completely eliminate this current ripple as well as an overshoot or undershoot is significantly reduced. And the de link voltage and output current are well regulated by inverter controller. The validity of proposed algorithm is verified both computer simulation using PSIM 6.0 and experiment with a 1kW laboratory prototype.
Torque ripples generate mechanical vibration at low speed and acoustic noise at high speed. The back emf harmonics of a PM synchronous motor is one of the main sources of torque ripples. To reduce torque ripples resulting from back emf harmonics, dq-axis harmonic currents that reduce the torque ripples are generally compensated to the current controller. Harmonic current compensation is effective at low speed, but it is not applicable at high speed because of the limited bandwidth of the current controller. In this study, dq-axis harmonic voltage compensation that can reduce torque ripples at high speed is proposed. The dq-axis harmonic voltages are calculated from the motor speed and the dq-axis harmonic currents. The effectiveness of the proposed method in reducing torque ripple is verified by a simulation and experiments.
MDPS (motor driven power steering) systems have been widely used in vehicles due to their improved fuel efficiency and steering performance when compared to conventional hydraulic steering. However, the reduction of torque ripples and material cost are important issues. A low resolution position sensor for MDPS is one of the candidates for reducing the material costs. However, it may increases the torque ripple due to the current harmonics caused by low resolution encoder signals. In this paper, the torque ripple caused by the quantized rotor position of the low resolution encoder is analyzed. To reduce the torque ripples caused by the quantization of the encoder signals, the rotor position and the speed are estimated by measuring the frequency of the encoder signals. In addition, the compensating q-axis current is added to the current command so that the 6th order torque harmonic is attenuated. The reduction of torque ripples by applying the estimated rotor position and the compensated q-axis current is verified through experimental results.
This study proposes a method for compensating for the commutation torque ripple of delta-connected brushless DC motors with low inductance based on a current predictions. At the commutation instant, a phase current at the next sampling period is predicted and compared with the reference phase current to determine whether torque ripples will occur or not. If the predicted current cannot reach the reference phase current, the reference current is modified and the relevant voltage reference is produced to reduce the torque ripple. The validity of the proposed method has been verified by simulation and experimental results. The commutation torque ripple has been decreased by 17.7% at 1,000 rpm and 80% load conditions.
When medium and large induction motors are driven by 2-level inverters with low switching frequency, induction motors provoke deteriorated performances resulted from large torque ripples, flux ripples, and large current distortion. Model predictive torque control(MPTC) for a fast torque control of induction motors is also suffered from large torque ripples when the induction motors are fed by 2-level inverters that are based on 6 active voltage vectors with low switching frequency restricted. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a new MPTC method based on both a 12 active voltage vector and an optimized duty ratio calculation. The proposed control strategy illustrates its effectiveness under the various operating conditions through simulation works.
This paper presents a new method on reducing commutation torque ripples generated in brushless dc motor drives. In such drives the current ripples are generated by motor inductance in stator windings and the back EMF. The ripples suppression techniques that are practically effective in high speed as well as in low speed regions are rarely found. The proposed method here is based on a strategy that the commutation intervals of the incoming ang the outgoing phases can be equalized by a proper PWM control. The controller is implemented by a 16-bit microprocessor and effectiveness of the proposed control method is verified through experiments.
Current Source Inverter(CSI) operated in square wave mode is more efficient than the PWM CSI because of increased cost greater complexity of control algorithm, and substantial switching losses EMI. But the square wave output current of CSI rich in low order harmonics produce motor torque ripples. Therefore in this paper describes the active power filters for square wave current compensation of current source induction motor. Also extended current synchronous detection(ECSD) as compensation algorithm is proposed. To confirm the validity o proposed system some simulation results are presented and discussed.
In this study, an improved LCCT(Inductor-Capacitor-Capacitor-Trans) Z-source inverter(Improved LCCT ZSI) with characteristics of Quasi Z-source inverter(QZSI) and LCCT Z-source inverter(LCCT ZSI) is proposed. The proposed inverter can also reduce the voltage stress and input current/capacitor voltage ripples compared with conventional LCCT ZSI and Quasi ZSI. A two winding trans in Z-impedance network of the conventional LCCT ZSI is replaced by a three winding trans in the proposed inverter. To verify the validity of the proposed inverter, a DSP controlled hardware was made and PSIM simulation was executed for each method. Comparing the current and voltage ripples of each method under the condition of input DC voltage 70[V] and output AC voltage 76[Vrms], the input current and capacitor voltage ripple factors of the proposed inverter were low as 11[%] and 1.4[%] respectively. And, for generation of the same output AC voltage of each method, voltage stress of the proposed inverter was low as 175[V] under the condition of duty ratio D=0.15. As mentioned above, we could know that the proposed inverter have the characteristics of low voltage stress, low ripple factor and low operation duty ratio compared with the conventional methods. Finally, the efficiency according to load change/duty ratio and the transient state characteristics were discussed.
In this paper, an LLC resonant converter employing two coupled inductors on the secondary side of the converter is proposed. The conventional LLC converter exhibits serious power loss during secondary winding of the transformer because of generation of tremendous output current ripples. To overcome this problem, an LLC resonant converter with a current doubler as a rectifying circuit was recently proposed. However, the current-doubler rectifying circuit requires coupled inductors with a high coupling ratio to retain the designed resonance characteristics. Therefore, an additional hardware filter is required at the output stage to address large output current ripples. Additional design procedures are also necessary because the inductance component of the added filter affects the designed resonant network. To solve this issue, an LLC resonant converter employing two coupled inductors is proposed in this paper. Mathematical analysis shows that the proposed secondary-side current-doubler circuit does not affect the designed resonance characteristics. The operating principles and theoretical analyses are proven through a simulation and experiments with a 54 V/28 A prototype.
A ZVT (zero voltage transition) converter for SRM (switched reluctance motor) drives is proposed in this study. By adding a ZVT-chopping switch in the front-end, all switches in the machine side converter can be operated without any chopping to regulate phase current. This allows the use of low-cost and slow-switching devices for the machine side converter. The ZVT circuitry allows high frequency operation of th echopping switch, which enhnaces the system dynamcis and phase-current ripples. High efficiency of th eintegrated converter is obtained due to low switching losses.
