In commercial combustion systems, heavy oil is one of main hydrocarbon fuel because of its economical efficiency. Regarding heavy oil combustion, due to increasing concerns over environmental pollutants such as carbon monoxide, unburned hydrocarbon and nitrogen oxides, development of low pollutant emission methods has become an imminent issue for practical application to numerous combustion devices. Also a great amount of effort has been tried to developed effective methods for practical using of biomass. It is also an important issue to reduce carbon tax. In this paper, an experimental study has been conducted to evaluate the effect of biomass reburning on NOx formation in a heavy oil flamed combustion furnace. Experiments were performed in flames stabilized by a multi-staged burner, which was mounted at the front of the furnace. Experimental tests were conducted using air-carried rice husk powder and LNG as the reburn fuel and heavy oil as the main fuel. The paper reports data on flue gas emissions and temperature distribution in the furnace for several kinds of experimental conditions. NOx concentration in the exhaust has decreased considerably due to effect of reburning. The maximum NOx reduction rate was 62% when the rice husk was used by reburn fuel, however it was 59% when the LNG was used by reburn fuel. The result shows the positive possibility of biomass reburning system for optimal NOx reduction.

Differences in the frequency characteristic applied to a ripple current may shorten fuel cell life span and worsen the fuel efficiency. Therefore, this paper presents an experimental analysis of the ripple current applied variable frequency characteristic in a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). This paper provides the first attempt to examine the impact of ripple current through immediate measurements on a single cell test. After cycling for hours at three frequencies, each polarization and impedance curve is obtained and compared with those of a fuel cell. Through experimental results, it can be absolutely concluded that low frequency ripple current leads to long-term degradation of a fuel cell. Three different PEMFC failures such as membrane dehydration, flooding and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning that lead to an increase in the impedance magnitude at low frequencies are simply introduced.

A mixture preparation strategy was proposed and evaluated in a diesel-natural gas dual-fuel engine to reduce hydrocarbon (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions under low load conditions. An experimental investigation was conducted in a single-cylinder compression-ignition engine. Natural gas was supplied with air during the intake stroke, and diesel was injected directly into the combustion chamber during the compression stroke. First, effects of diesel start of energizing (SOE) and natural gas substitution ratio on the combustion and exhaust gas emissions were analyzed. Based on the results, the mixture preparation strategy was established. A low natural gas substitution ratio and a high exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) rate were effective in reducing the HC and CO emissions.
In this study, the combustion and emission characteristics of waste cooking oil biodiesel was investigated. The fuel was injected from 5 CAD (Crank angle degree) ATDC (After top dead center) to -60 CAD ATDC by 5 CAD with 800 bar and 1600 bar injection pressure. Generally, the hydrocarbon, carbon monoxide and smoke emissions from biodiesel fuel were lower than the emission levels of diesel fuel. However, the emission characteristic of biodiesel got worse than diesel when the fuel was injected earlier than -30 CAD ATDC. $NO_x$ emission from biodeisel was higher than diesel fuel in all experimental conditions.

Modern electrochemical energy devices involve generation and reduction of fuel gases through electrochemical reactions of water splitting, alcohol oxidation, oxygen reduction, etc. Initially, these processes were executed in the presence of noble metal-based catalyst that showed low overpotential and high current density. However, its high cost, unavailability, corrosion and related toxicity limited its application. The search for alternative with high stability, durability, and efficiency led scientists towards carbon nanoparticles supported catalysts which has high surface area, good electrical conductivity, tunable morphology, low cost, ease of synthesis and stability. Carbon nanoparticles are classified into two groups based on morphology, one and zero dimensional particles. Carbon nanoparticles at zero dimension, denoted as carbon dots, are less used carbon support compared to other forms. However, recently carbon dots with improved electronic properties have become popular as catalyst as well as catalyst support. This review focused on the recent advances in electrocatalytic activities of carbon dots. The mechanisms of common electrocatalytic reactions and the role of the catalysts are also discussed. The review also proposed future developments and other research directions to overcome current limitations.

Interests in fuel cell based power generation systems are on the steady rise owing to various advantages such as high efficiency, ultra low emission, and potential to achieve a very high efficiency by a synergistic combination with conventional heat engines. In this study, the performance of a hybrid system which combined a molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) and an indirectly fired micro gas turbine adopting carbon dioxide capture technologies was predicted. Commercialized 2.5 MW class MCFC system was used as the based system so that the result of this study could reflect practicality. Three types of ambient pressure hybrid systems were devised: one adopting post-combustion capture and two adopting oxy-combustion capture. One of the oxy-combustion based system is configured as a semi-closed type, while the other is an open cycle type. The post-combustion based system exhibited higher net power output and efficiency than the oxy-combustion based systems. However, the semi-closed system using oxy-combustion has the advantage of capturing almost all carbon dioxide.
The water-gas shift reaction is the subsequent step using steam for hydrogen enrichment and H2/CO ratio-controlled syngas from gasification. In this study, a water-gas shift reaction was performed using syngas from an RPF gasification system. The water-gas shift using a catalyst was performed in a laboratory-scale tube reactor with a high temperature shift (HTS) and a low temperature shift (LTS). The effects of the reaction temperature, steam/carbon ratio, and flow rate on H2 production and CO conversion were investigated. The operating temperature was 250-400℃ for the HTS system and 190-220℃ for the LTS system. Steam/carbon ratios were between 1.5 and 3.5, and the composition of reactant was CO : 40 vol%, H2 : 25 vol%, and CO2 : 25 vol%. The CO conversion and H2 production increased as the reaction temperature and steam/carbon ratio increased. The CO conversion and H2 production decreased as the flow rate increased due to reduced retention time in the catalyst bed.
This paper proposes the method to develop the fuel of suljigemi pellets using agricultural by-products the occurred during the manufacturing of alcohol. This paper is the goal to make sulgigemi pellet fuel for develops pellet of high calorie. The methods of sulgigemi pellet manufacturing well mix as the dough with the water and the sulgigemi. And then we have dried in the after compression and molding using well mixed the sulgigemi. The moisture of pellets has dried it removed until about 85%. Suljigemi pellet has the effect of zero emission as the soil conditioner using ash after burning. The merits for the sulgigemi pellet are the convenience of storage and custody. Also sulgigemi pellet has the reduction effect of carriage fee, fuel economy and low-cost high-efficiency effects, environmentally clean fuel as CO2 emissions savings. In this study, the electrochemical impedance characteristics of CO2/H2O co-reduction to produce CO/H2 syngas were investigated in a low-temperature single cell. The effect of the operating conditions on the single-cell performance was evaluated at different feed concentrations and cell voltages, and the corresponding electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) data were collected and analyzed. The Nyquist plots exhibited two semicircles with separated characteristic frequencies of approximately 1 kHz and tens of Hz. The high-frequency semicircles, which depend only on the catholyte concentration, could be correlated to the charge transfer processes in competitive CO2 reduction and hydrogen evolution reactions at the cathodes. The EIS characteristics of the CO2/H2O co-reduction single cell could be explained by the equivalent circuit suggested in this study. In this circuit, the cathodic mass transfer and anodic charge transfer processes are collectively represented by a parallel combination of resistance and a constant phase element to show low-frequency semicircles. Through nonlinear fitting using the equivalent circuit, the parameters for each electrochemical element, such as polarization resistances for high- and low-frequency processes, could be quantified as functions of feed concentration and cell voltage.
Global village warming and carbon dioxide CO2 gas, and the human efforts for their healing and necessary alternative technology would be much more difficult things than that of making necessary funds and efforts to lay to sleep angry nature on the earth. The limited natural resources of fossil fuel would be dried up in several decades, and the intensity of diplomatic negotiations for natural resource guarantee among countries may be showed looking alike an war. The drain of fossil fuel called a new word of alternative policy like an environment-friendly green-growth, and the solar-cell and lighting technology for the solar energy applications were developed still more repeatedly day by day from oil lantern to LED high-tech illumination in great economy. Therefore, it was studied that the low-carbon green-growth illumination technology in cave applications with SOLAR-LED system which was produced and unified in connection with solar-cell and LED from the semiconductor production technology, and it was also clarified in necessary with useful cave lighting in heatless and with no photosynthesis of plant production in underground space.
