  • As environmental vibration requirements on precision equipment become more stringent. use of pneumatic isolators has become more popular and their performance is subsequently required to be further improved. Dynamic performance of passive pneumatic isolators is related to various design parameters in a complicated manner and, hence, is very limited especially in low frequency range by volume of chambers. In this study, an active control technique, so called time delay control which is considered to be adequate for a low frequency or nonlinear system, is applied to a single chamber pneumatic isolator. The procedure of applying the time delay control law to the pneumatic isolator is presented and its effectiveness in enhancement of transmissibility performance is shown based on simulation and experiment. Comparison between passive and active pneumatic isolators is also presented.

  • Vehicle body frame stiffness affects the dynamic and static characteristics. Vehicle frame structural performance is greatly affected by crossmember and joint design. While the structural characteristics of these joints vary widely, there is no known tool currently in use that quickly predicts joint stiffness early in design cycle. This paper presents the joint design factors affecting on low frequency vibration. The joint factors are joint panel thickness, section property, flange width and weld point space. To study the effect on vehicle low frequency vibration, case studies for these factors are performed. And Sensitivity analysis for section property is performed. The result can present design guide for high-stiffness vehicle.

  • Speed, accuracy and smoothness are the important properties of pan-tilt camera. In the case of a high ratio zoom lens system, low vibration characteristic is a crucial point in driving pan-tilt mechanism. In this paper, a novel micro-stepping controller with a function of reducing vibration was designed using field programmable gate arrays (FPGA) technology for high zoom ratio pan-tilt camera. The proposed variable reference current (VRC) control scheme reduces vibration decently and optimizing coil current in order to prevent the step motor from occurring missing steps. By employing VRC control scheme, the vibration in low speed could be significantly minimized. The proposed controller can also make very high speed of 378kpps micro-step driving, and increase maximum acceleration in motion profiles.

  • Theoretical analysis about transient torsional vibration was started from early 1960's for high power synchronous motor application. Especially, its simulation and measuring techniques in marine engineering field have been steadily studied by classification societies and designers of large diesel engine. In this paper, the simulation method of transient torsional vibration of two stroke low speed diesel engine using the Newmark method are introduced.

  • Noise and vibration due to pile driving cause residents nearby construction sites to file civil complaints and to the extent of bringing construction to a halt. To deal with this issue, construction engineers have worked strenuously to develop several types of low noise & low vibration pile methods. In this study, a new noise and vibration-free precast screw pile method proposed as a low noise & low vibration pile. It penetrates into the ground by rotating and pressing to avert noise and vibration while maximizing bearing capacity. A prototype of noise and vibration-free precast screw pile method was manufactured, which is not seen anywhere in Korea and elsewhere, and have undergone pilot tests twice to determine construction method. Based on this study, features of the noise & vibration-free screw pile method, production of screw concrete pile prototype, two pilot tests and subsequent construction method were determined.

  • Two stroke low speed diesel engines are widely used for marine propulsion or as power plant prime mover. These engines have many merits which includes higher thermal efficiency, mobility and durability. Yet various annoying vibrations occur sometimes in ships or at the plant itself. Of these vibrations, torsional vibration is very important and dictates a careful investigation during the engme's initial design stage for safe operation. With the rule and limit on torsional vibration in place, shaft strength fatigue due to torsional vibration however demands further analysis which possibly can be incorporated in the classification societies' rule and limit. In addition, the shaft's torsional vibration stresses can be calculated equivalently from accumulated fatigue cycles number due to transient torsional vibration in time domain. In this paper, authors suggest a new estimation method combined with Palmgren-Miner equation. A 6S70MC-C ($25,320ps{\times}91rpm$) engine for ship propulsion was selected as a case study. Angular velocity was measured, instead of shaft's strain, for simplified measurement and it was converted to torsional vibration stress for accumulated fatigue cycle numbers in shafting life time. Likewise, the accumulated fatigue calculation was compared with shaft fatigue strength limit. This new method can be further realized and confirmed in ship with two stroke low speed diesel engine.

  • If a sinusoidal excitation force moves back and forth along a structure with a certain frequency, the structure will be excited with the difference frequency of these two frequencies. A low frequency vibration shaker has been developed using this force frequency shifting without actually moving a shaker The shaker consists of an ordinary eccentric mass shaker, a plate, constant springs, and time varying dampers. The dampers are turned on and off in a sequential manner to simulate a traveling slide of an excitation force. The operation of the shaker is simulated by solving the equations of motion of the shaker. Characteristics of the shaker have been found and they can be utilized to design efficient low frequency shakers.

  • A wind generator system model includes wind model, rotor dynamics, synchronous generator, power converter, distribution line and infinite bus. This paper investigates the low-Voltage Ride-Through capability of PMSG wind turbine in a variable speed. The drive train of a wind turbine on 2-mass modeling can observe the shaft torsional vibration when the low-voltage occur. To reduce the torsional vibration when the low-voltage occur, this paper designs suppression control algorithm of the torsional vibration and implements simulation. A Matlab/Simulink is used to investigate the response during the transient state.

  • Recently, a more strict regulation has become effective on ground vibration and noise induced by construction activities. Consequently the demand for the most widely used method of installing precast piles, i.e. driven piles, is declining. At the same time the demand for low noise and low vibration piling method increased sharply. Currently there are several different low noise and low vibration methods of installing precast piles, mostly preboring method. However, the actual level of ground vibration and noise of these method of construction has not yet been clearly understood. In this paper, through field measurement, suggestion has been made to meet the requirements of the revised regulation.
