We propose a new adaptive K-best Sphere Decoding (SD) algorithm for Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems where the number of survivor paths, K is changed based on the characteristics of path metrics which contain the instantaneous channel condition. In order to overcome a major drawback of Maximum Likelihood Detection (MLD) which exponentially increases the computational complexity with the number of transmit antennas, the conventional adaptive K-best SD algorithms which achieve near to MLD performance have been proposed. However, they still have redundant computation complexity since they only employ the channel fading gain as a channel condition indicator without instantaneous Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) information. hi order to complement this drawback, the proposed algorithm use the characteristics of path metrics as a simple channel indicator. It is found that the ratio of the minimum path metric to the other path metrics reflects SNR information as well as channel fading gain. By adaptively changing K based on this ratio, the proposed algorithm more effectively reduce the computation complexity compared to the conventional K-best algorithms which achieve same performance.

A water level measurement radar estimates beat frequencies to extract the corresponding water level information for water resource management. Therefore, it is required to maintain the high degree of reliability and accuracy in beat frequency estimates. However, Beat spectra of water surface return echoes can have very widely varying shapes according to system frequency linearity, measurement environments and weather conditions. Therefore, serious problems may arise in maintaining the reliability and accuracy of the conventional level estimation method. Therefore, in this paper, high resolution spectrum estimates are analyzed for improvement of the conventional method. These methods show that the more accurate level measurement can be possible on the condition that SNR is higher than a certain required threshold. However, if SNR is too low, the conventional method shows that estimates are more reliable than the suggested method though absolute errors are too large.

In this paper, we consider K-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) interference channel and present a transceiver design for simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) systems. In addition, we consider a SWIPT system where an information decoding receiver and an energy harvesting receiver are co-located at the same receiver. In the proposed scheme, signal-to-leakage plus noise ratio (SLNR) is used as a cost function and a transceiver is designed to satisfy the threshold of the harvested energy. More specifically, transmitter precoding vector, receiver filter vector, and power spitting factor are simultaneously designed to maximize SLNR with a constraint on the harvested energy. Through computer simulation, we compare the signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (SINR) performance of the proposed and conventional schemes. When a special condition among the number of transmit antennas, receive antennas, and users is satisfied, the proposed scheme showed better SINR performance than the conventional scheme at low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) range. Also, when the condition is not satisfied, the proposed scheme showed better performance than the conventional scheme at all SNR range.
In this paper, we propose an algorithm to improve DoA(direction of arrival) estimation performance of the subspace-based method by generating high robustness correlation matrix of the signals incident on the uniformly linear array antenna. The existing subspace-based DoA estimation method estimates the DoA by obtaining a correlation matrix and dividing it into a signal subspace and a noise subspace. However, the component of the correlation matrix obtained from the low SNR and small number of snapshots inaccurately estimates the signal subspace due to the noise component of the antenna, thereby degrading the DoA estimation performance. Therefore a robust correlation matrix is generated by arranging virtual signal vectors obtained from the existing correlation matrix in a sliding manner. As a result of simulation using MUSIC and ESPRIT, which are representative subspace-based methods,, the computational complexity increased by less than 2.5% compared to the existing correlation matrix, but both MUSIC and ESPRIT based on RMSE 1° showed superior DoA estimation performance with an SNR of 3dB or more.
The major factor that disturbs practical use of speech recognition is distortion by the ambient and channel noises. Generally, the ambient noise drops the performance and restricts places to use. DSR (Distributed Speech Recognition) based speech recognition also has this problem. Various noise cancelling algorithms are applied to solve this problem, but loss of spectrum and remaining noise by incorrect noise estimation at low SNR environments cause drop of recognition rate. This paper proposes methods for speech enhancement. This method uses MMSE-STSA for noise cancelling and ideal binary mask to compensate damaged spectrum. According to experiments at noisy environment (SNR 15 dB ~ 0 dB), the proposed methods showed better spectral results and recognition performance.

In this paper, The flight data processing system was designed for multiple target flight test. For flight data processing, multiple target grouping, data fusion processing, and data slaving processing were performed and, as a data fusion filter, centralized, and federated Kalman filters were designed. A centralized kalman filter was modified in order to improve the vehicle's low altitude measurement using radar's SNR and estimation process. From the testing of multiple target missile, it confirmed flight trajectory measurement was improved in low altitude area and the beginning stage of vehicle.

Being the most widely used in ultrasound Doppler color flow mapping, the Kasai algorithm, also known as lag-1 autocorrelation method, is capable of estimating the Doppler mean frequency relatively accurately with a modest amount of computation. Particularly in the case of imaging deep lying areas, however, its performance suffers due to low signal-to-noise ratios. The purpose of this paper is to propose a dealiased lag-2 autocorrelation method which is superior to the Kasai algorithm even at low signal-to-noise ratios and to compare their performances through simulations. The proposed algorithm is found to be better by about 2 to 3 dB than the Kasai algorithm in terms of Doppler mean frequency estimation error in the presence of measurement noise.

Magnetic resonance imaging has a potential to produce clear anatomical as well as functional images of human body. However, the ability to diagnose is limited by signal to noise ratio (SNR) and the resolution of current medical systems. To remove the challenges prevalent due to the use of high field scanners, dedicated radio frequency coils are used. Transverse electromagnetic coils have an advantage of providing homogeneous magnetic field throughout the region but with low signal to noise ratio while surface coils have an advantage of providing higher signal to noise ratio but with low homogeneity. This research combines both the advantage into one by utilizing transmit only transverse electromagnetic radio frequency coils (8 channel) along with receive only surface coils (by varying the number) for better imaging of brain. A 7 Tesla 32-channel close fitting helmet shaped phased-array surface coils along with the combination of 8 channel transmit only transverse electromagnetic coils provided good homogeneity as well as significant SNR improvements throughout the human brain.

As the recently soaring wireless traffic, small-cell techniques have been actively studied in order to support such a wireless demand for cellular wireless networks. This paper focuses on the inter-cell interference neutralization to resolve the main barrier for implementing small-cell cellular networks. Assuming that each message is delivered to the final destination by the help of base stations or relays, ergodic interference neutralization is proposed, which exploits the time-varying nature of wireless channels. The previous approach based on amplify-and-forward (AF) suffers from severe performance degradation in the low signal-to-noise (SNR) regime due to noise amplification. On the other hand, the proposed interference neutralization based on recently developed compute-and-forward (CF) fixes such a problem and improves the performance in the low SNR regime.

In this paper, we investigate the performance evaluation of three dimensional (3D) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems with an adjustable base station (BS) antenna tilt angle and zero-forcing (ZF) receivers in Ricean/Lognormal fading channels. In particular, we take the lognormal shadow fading, 3D antenna gain with antenna tilt angle and path-loss into account. First, we derive a closed-form lower bound on the sum rate, then we obtain the optimal BS antenna tilt angle based on the derived lower bound, and finally we present linear approximations for the sum rate in high and low-SNR regimes, respectively. Based on our analytical results, we gain valuable insights into the impact of key system parameters, such as the BS antenna tilt angle, the Ricean K-factor and the radius of cell, on the sum rate performance of 3D MIMO with ZF receivers.
