풍력터빈 전산유체역학해석에서 비균일 그리드 무차원 연직거리의 난류모델에 대한 영향특성 (A Study on the y+ Effects on Turbulence Model of Unstructured Grid for CFD Analysis of Wind Turbine)

  • This paper presents the dimensionless wall distance, y+ effect on SST turbulent model for wind turbine blade. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Phase VI wind turbine was used for the study, which the wind tunnel and structural test data has publicly available. The near wall treatment and turbulent characteristics have important role for proper CFD simulation. Most of the CFD development in this area is focused on advanced turbulence model closures including second moment closure models, and so called Low-Reynolds (low-Re) number and two-layer turbulence models. However, in many cases CFD aerodynamic predictions based on these standard models still show a large degree of uncertainty, which can be attributed to the use of the $\epsilon$-equation as the turbulence scale equation and the associated limitations of the near wall treatment. The present paper demonstrates the y+ definition effect on SST (Shear Stress Transport) turbulent model with advanced automatic near wall treatment model and Gamma theta transitional model for transition from lamina to turbulent flow using commercial ANSYS-CFX. In all cases the SST model shows to be superior, as it gives more accurate predictions and is less sensitive to grid variations.

Hydrodynamic characteristics for flow around wavy wings with different wave lengths

  • The present study numerically investigates the effect of the wavy leading edge on hydrodynamic characteristics for the flow of rectangular wings with the low aspect ratio of 1.5. Five different wave lengths at fixed wavy amplitude have been considered. Numerical simulations are performed at a wide range of the angle of attack ($0^{\circ}{\leq}{\alpha}{\leq}40^{\circ}$) at one Reynolds number of $10^6$. The wavy wings considered in this study did not experience enough lift drop to be defined as the stall, comparing with the smooth wing. However, in the pre-stall region, the wavy wings reveal the considerable loss of the lift, compared to the smooth wing. In the post-stall, the lift coefficients of the smooth wing and the wavy wings are not much different. The pressure coefficient, limiting streamlines and the iso-surface of the spanwise vorticity are also highlighted to examine the effect of the wave length on the flow structures.

  • 초크랄스키법에 의한 8언치 실리콘 단결정 성장시 커스프자장의 영향에 관한 수치 해석적 연구를 행하였다. 액상실리콘의 유동에 대한 모렐은 저레이놀즈수 모렐을 사용하였다. 대칭커스프자장은 유션의 강도를 감쇄하였고, 특히 도가니 벽면 근처에서의 유동의 감쇄효과가 현저하였다. 결정으로 혼업되는 산소의 농도는 인가되는 커스프자장의 증가에 따라 감소하였다. 그리고, 결정으로 혼업되는 산소농도의 균일성은 향상되었다. 비대칭커스프 자장은 결정으로 혼 입되는 산소의 농도를 중가시켰지만, 반경방향의 산소농도의 분포는 일정하게 유지되었다. 대칭 과 비대청 커스프자장의 적절한 조합을 행하면 축방향으로 일정한 산소의 분포를 갖는 적절한 조업조건이 도출될 것으로 예상된다.

Flow Characteristics of Neutrally Buoyant Particles in 2-Dimensional Poiseuille Flow through Circular Capillaries

  • An experimental study has been conducted to quantitatively characterize the motion of neutrally buoyant particles in 2-dimensional Poiseuille flow through the micron-sized circular capillaries in the range of Re (Reynolds number) $\approx0.1\sim100$. $A{\mu}-PTV$ (Particle Tracking Velocimetry) system is adopted, which consists of a double-headed Nd:YAG laser, an epi-fluorescence microscope and a cooled CCD camera. Since high shear rate can be induced due to the scale effect even at low Re, it is shown that in micro scale neutrally buoyant particles in Poiseuille flow drift away from the wall and away from the center of the capillary. Consequently, particles accumulate at the equilibrium position of $0.52\sim0.64R$ with R being the radius of the capillary, which is analogous to that of tube flow in macro scale. There is a plateau in equilibrium position at small Re, while equilibrium position starts increasing at $Re\approx30$. The outermost edge of particle cluster is closer to the center of the capillary than that in previous studies due to low Re effect. The present study quantitatively presents characteristics of particle motion in circular capillaries. Furthermore, it is expected to give optimum factors for designing microfluidic systems that are to be used fur plasma separation from the blood.

다층 재배선반을 갖는 하이브리드 식물공장의 열유동 특성 (Thermal Flow Characteristics of a Hybrid Plant Factory with Multi-layer Cultivation Shelves)

  • 식물공장은 환경적 조건을 조절하여 계절이나 장소에 관계없이 농산물을 일정하게 생산하는 식물재배 시스템이다. 식물공장에 있어서 내부의 열 유동은 식물공장의 중요한 변수이다. 본 논문에서는 다층 재배선반을 갖는 하이브리드 식물공장 내의 열유동 특성을 수치 시뮬레이션을 통해 연구하였다. 열 유동 특성의 수치해를 얻기 위해 유한체적법(Finite Volume Method)을 이용하였다. 수치해석 모델에 있어서는 저 레이놀드수(low Reynolds number) ${\kappa}-{\epsilon}$ 난류모델을 이용하였으며, 해석방법으로는 비압축성 점성유동 영역과 압력경계 조건을 사용하였다. 수치해석에 있어, 3종류의 유입 공기속도와 재배선반의 위치변화에 따른 식물공장 내의 열유동 특성을 상용 프로그램인 Solid Works Flow simulation을 사용하였다. 수치해석을 통한 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 송풍기를 통한 식물공장 내의 유입 공기속도를 1.6 m/s로 하였을 때, Case 3의 재배선반 배치가 비교적 균일한 온도 분포를 나타내었고, LED광만을 사용한 Case 1의 배치는 시험베드(test bed) TB2와 TB3 영역의 낮은 온도분포로 인하여 서큘레이터 등을 통한 추가적인 온도 제어가 필요할 것으로 판단되었다. 둘째, 식물재배 LED 인공광(DYLED47)의 청색광과 적색광의 비율을 1:1로 100% 구동 시, 재배선반의 평균 온도가 약 $3^{\circ}C$ 증가하였다. 본 논문은 한국산학기술학회 논문지 심사용 투고요령입니다.

고가궤도에 근접한 자기부상열차 형상 주위의 3차원 난류유동에 대한 수치해석 (Computational Analysis of Three-Dimensional Turbulent Flow Around Magnetically Levitated Train Configurations in Elevated Track Proximity)

  • In the present study, the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations, together with the equations of the $k-{\varepsilon}$ model of turbulence, were solved numerically in a general body-fitted coordinate system for three-dimensional turbulent flows around the six basic shapes of the magnetically levitated train(MAGLEV). The numerical computations were conducted on the MAGLEV model configurations to provide information on shapes of this type very near the elevated track at a constant Reynolds number of $1.48{\times}10^{6}$ based on the body length. The coordinate system was generated by numerically solving a set of Poisson equations. The convective transport equations were discretized using the finite-analytic scheme which employed analytic solutions of the locally-linearized equations. A time marching algorithm was employed to enable future extensions to be made to handle unsteady and fully-elliptic problems. The pressure-velocity coupling was treated with the SIMPLER-algorithm. Of particular interests were wall effect by the elevated track on the aerodynamic forces and flow characteristics of the six models calculated. The results indicated that the half-circle configuration with extended sides and with smooth curvature of sides was desirable because of the low aerodynamic forces and pitching moment. And it was found that the separation bubble was occured at wake region in near the elevated track.

날개의 종횡비가 날개 짓 운동의 공기역학적 특성에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Aspect Ratio on Aerodynamic Characteristics of Flapping Motion)

  • The lift and drag forces produced by a wing of a given cross-sectional profile are dependent on the wing planform and the angle of attack. Aspect ratio is the ratio of the wing span to the average chord. For conventional fixed wing aircrafts, high aspect ratio wings produce a higher lift to drag ratio than low ones for flight at subsonic speeds. Therefore, high aspect ratio wings are used on aircraft intended for long endurance. However, birds and insects flap their wings to fly in the air and they can change their wing motions. Their wing motions are made up of translation and rotation. Therefore, we tested flapping motions with parameters which affect rotational motion such as the angle of attack and the wing beat frequency. The half elliptic shaped wings were designed with the variation of aspect ratio from 4 to 11. The flapping device was operated in the water to reduce the wing beat frequency according to Reynolds similarity. In this study, the aerodynamic forces, the time-averaged force coefficients and the lift to drag ratio were measured at Reynolds number 15,000 to explore the aerodynamic characteristics with the variation of aspect ratio. The maximum lift coefficient was turned up at AR=8. The mean drag coefficients were almost same values at angle of attack from $10^{\circ}$ to $40^{\circ}$ regardless of aspect ratio, and the mean drag coefficients above angle of attack $50^{\circ}$ were decreased according to the increase of aspect ratio. For flapping motion the maximum mean lift to drag ratio appeared at AR=8.

층류-난류 천이 모델을 적용한 프로펠러 단독 성능 해석에 관한 CFD 시뮬레이션 (CFD Simulation on Predicting POW Performance Adopting Laminar-Turbulent Transient Model)

  • In the present study, the model-scale Propeller Open Water (POW) tests for the propeller of 176K bulk carrier and 8600TEU container ship were conducted through Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation. In order to solve the incompressible viscous flow field, the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RaNS) equations were employed as the governing equations. The γ-Reθ(gamma-Re-theta) transition model combined with the SST k-ωturbulence model was introduced to describe the laminar-turbulence transition considering the low Reynolds number of model-scale. Firstly, the flow simulation developing over a flat plate was performed to verify the transition modeling, in which the wall shear stresses were compared with experiments and other numerical results. Then, to investigate the effect of the model, the CFD simulation for the POW test was performed and the simulated propeller performance was validated through comparison with the experiment conducted at Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO).

A proposed technique for determining aerodynamic pressures on residential homes

  • Wind loads on low-rise buildings in general and residential homes in particular can differ significantly depending upon the laboratory in which they were measured. The differences are due in large part to inadequate simulations of the low-frequency content of atmospheric velocity fluctuations in the laboratory and to the small scale of the models used for the measurements. The imperfect spatial coherence of the low frequency velocity fluctuations results in reductions of the overall wind effects with respect to the case of perfectly coherent flows. For large buildings those reductions are significant. However, for buildings with sufficiently small dimensions (e.g., residential homes) the reductions are relatively small. A technique is proposed for simulating the effect of low-frequency flow fluctuations on such buildings more effectively from the point of view of testing accuracy and repeatability than is currently the case. Experimental results are presented that validate the proposed technique. The technique eliminates a major cause of discrepancies among measurements conducted in different laboratories. In addition, the technique allows the use of considerably larger model scales than are possible in conventional testing. This makes it possible to model architectural details, and improves Reynolds number similarity. The technique is applicable to wind tunnels and large scale open jet facilities, and can help to standardize flow simulations for testing residential homes as well as significantly improving testing accuracy and repeatability. The work reported in this paper is a first step in developing the proposed technique. Additional tests are planned to further refine the technique and test the range of its applicability.

Strouhal number of bridge cables with ice accretion at low flow turbulence

  • The paper concerns with the method and results of wind tunnel investigations of the Strouhal number (St) of a stationary iced cable model of cable-supported bridges with respect to different angles of wind attack. The investigations were conducted in the Climatic Wind Tunnel Laboratory of the Czech Academy of Sciences in $Tel{\check{c}}$. The methodology leading to the experimental icing of the inclined cable model was prepared in a climatic section of the laboratory. The shape of the ice on the cable was registered by a photogrammetry method. A section of an iced cable model with a smaller scale was reproduced with a 3D printing procedure for subsequent aerodynamic investigations. The St values were determined within the range of the Reynolds number (Re) between $2.4{\cdot}10^4$ and $16.5{\cdot}10^4$, based on the dominant vortex shedding frequencies measured in the wake of the model. The model was oriented at three principal angles of wind attack for each of selected Re values. The flow regimes were distinguished for each model configuration. In order to recognize the tunnel blockage effect the St of a circular smooth cylinder was also tested. Good agreement with the reported values in the subcritical Re range of a circular cylinder was obtained. The knowledge of the flow regimes of the airflow around an iced cable and the associated St values could constitute a basis to formulate a mathematical description of the vortex-induced force acting on the iced cable of a cable-supported bridge and could allow predicting the cable response due to the vortex excitation phenomenon.
