As an advance study for the development of a heat sink for special purpose high power illumination, an investigation was made to find feasibility for the application of copper plated EP to a heat sink of small LED light of less than 10W installed in commercial product. In this study, the plated heat sink with EP copper was fabricated for the conventional LED light. It was used actually for finding heat radiation property and effectiveness of the heat sink accompanied with measurement of luminous intensity. The heat is radiated by transfer and dissipation only through the copper plated surface due to extremely low heat conductivity of EP in case of EP heat sink; however the total area of the plate plays the function of heat transfer as well as heat radiation in case of the aluminum heat sink. It seems that the volume difference of heat radiating material is so big that the temperature $P_1$ is 9.0~12.3% higher in 3W and 42.7~54.0% higher in case of 6W volume difference of heat radiating material is so big that the temperature $P_1$ is 9.0~12.3% higher in 3W and 42.7~54.0% higher in case of 6W even though heat transfer rate of copper is approximately 1.9 times higher than that of aluminum. It was thought that this is useful to utilize for heat sink for low power LED light with the low heating rate. Also, the illumination could be greatly influenced by the surrounding temperature of the place where it is installed. Therefore, it seems that the illumination installation environment must be taken into consideration when selecting illumination. Further study was expected on order to aims at development of an exterior surface itself made into heat radiation plate by application of this technology in future.

In this paper, a robust visual odometry system has been proposed and implemented in an environment with dynamic illumination. Visual odometry is based on stereo images to estimate the distance to an object. It is very difficult to realize a highly accurate and stable estimation because image quality is highly dependent on the illumination, which is a major disadvantage of visual odometry. Therefore, in order to solve the problem of low performance during the feature detection phase that is caused by illumination variations, it is suggested to determine an optimal threshold value in the image binarization and to use an adaptive threshold value for feature detection. A feature point direction and a magnitude of the motion vector that is not uniform are utilized as the features. The performance of feature detection has been improved by the RANSAC algorithm. As a result, the position of a mobile robot has been estimated using the feature points. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed approach has superior performance against illumination variations.

In conventional far-field microscopy, two objects separated closer than approximately half of an emission wavelength cannot be resolved, because of the fundamental limitation known as Abbe's diffraction limit. During the last decade, several super-resolution methods have been developed to overcome the diffraction limit in optical imaging. Among them, super-resolution optical fluctuation imaging (SOFI) developed by Dertinger et al [1], employs the statistical analysis of temporal fluorescence fluctuations induced by blinking phenomena in fluorophores. SOFI is a simple and versatile method for super-resolution imaging. However, due to the uncontrollable blinking of fluorophores, there are some limitations to using SOFI for several applications, including the limitations of available blinking fluorophores for SOFI, a requirement of using a high-speed camera, and a low signal-to-noise ratio. To solve these limitations, we present a new approach combining SOFI with speckle pattern illumination to create illumination-induced optical fluctuation instead of blinking fluctuation of fluorophore.. This technique effectively overcome the limitations of the conventional SOFI since illumination-induced optical fluctuation is possible to control unlike blinking phenomena of fluorophore. And we present the sub-diffraction resolution image using SOFI with speckle illumination.
In video sequences, foreground object detection being composed of a background model and a background subtraction is an important part of diverse computer vision applications. However, object detection might fail in sudden illumination changes. In this letter, an illumination-robust background detection is proposed to address this problem. The method can provide quick adaption to current illumination condition using two background models with different adaption rates. Since the proposed method is a non-parametric approach, experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms several state-of-art non-parametric approaches and provides low computational cost.
Accurate estimation of spatial frequencies and phases for illumination patterns are essential to reconstructing super-resolution images in structured illumination microscopy (SIM). In this manuscript, we propose the improved component cross-correlation (ICC) algorithm, which is based on optimization of the cross-correlation values of the overlapping information between various spectral components. Compared to other algorithms for spatial-frequency and phase determination, the results calculated by the ICC algorithm are more accurate when the modulation depths of the illumination patterns are low. Moreover, the ICC algorithm is able to calculate the spatial frequencies and phases simultaneously. Simulation results indicate that even if the modulation depth is lower than 0.1, the ICC algorithm still estimates the parameters precisely; the images reconstructed by the ICC algorithm are much clearer than those reconstructed by other algorithms. In experiments, our home-built SIM system was used to image bovine pulmonary artery endothelial (BPAE) cells. Drawing support from the ICC algorithm, super-resolution images were reconstructed without artifacts.
Background and objective: Various images from visual display terminals (VDTs) as well as living lighting are important parts of our daily life; thus, properly controlling the lighting environment - that is, illuminance, color temperature and good images from VDTs - can have a substantial effect on improving the mental health and work efficiency in everyday life. We examined electroencephalography (EEG) and heart rate variability (HRV) responses to various lighting conditions in 25 university students as they viewed images of a green landscape or traffic congestion. Methods: EEG was performed in darkness and when the room was illuminated with 10 different light-emitting diode (LED) color temperatures, while the EEG and HRV responses to green landscape or traffic congestion image stimuli were measured in darkness and during room illumination with three different LED color temperatures. Results: We found a significant difference between darkness and high LED illumination (400 lx) at 7 (CZ, F4, FZ, O1, O2, OZ, and T6) of 30 channels, while the alpha wave activity increased during darkness. In the second experiment, the green landscape image stimuli in the 30 lx-2600 K lighting condition elicited theta wave activity on the EEG, whereas the traffic congestion image stimuli under high LED illumination elicited high beta and gamma wave activities. Moreover, the subjects exhibited better stress coping ability and heart rate stability in response to green landscape image stimuli under illuminated conditions, according to their HRV. Conclusion: These results suggest that lower color temperatures and illumination levels alleviate tension, and that viewing green landscape image stimuli at low illumination, or in darkness, is effective for reducing stress. Conversely, high illumination levels and color temperatures are likely to increase tension and stress in response to traffic congestion image stimuli.

A low cost lighting system for line-scan cameras has been developed with 3-phase power. When exposure time of line-scan camera is shorter than fluctuation period of illumination, the average gray value of each acquired 1-D image varies. Detecting defects on the objects's surface under such illuminating environment is very difficult. The proposed lighting system is composed of low-cost fluorescent lights based on 3-phase power. The specially designed lighting pack and the properly selected lighting position enable to get the rippleless lighting. The principle of the proposed lighting system has been explained analytically. The lighting system has been tested for fabric inspection with line-scan camera and it's efficacy has been proved.

We propose a novel high dynamic range (HDR) video synthesis algorithm from alternatively exposed low dynamic range (LDR) videos. We first estimate correspondences between input fames using an illumination invariant descriptor. Then, we synthesize an HDR frame with the weights computed to maximize detail preservation in the output HDR frame. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm provides high-quality HDR videos without noticeable artifacts.
An implementation of robust stereo matching algorithm under variable illumination conditions is presented in this paper. By applying window-based matchingmethod to global stereo matching algorthm using belief propagation, our implemented system shows low error rate and could efficiently cope with general radiometric disimilarities between images acquired from two different point of views.

This paper presents multimodal image fusion with human pose for detecting abnormal human behaviors in low illumination conditions. Detecting human behaviors in low illumination conditions is challenging due to its limited visibility of the objects of interest in the scene. Multimodal image fusion simultaneously combines visual information in the visible spectrum and thermal radiation information in the long-wave infrared spectrum. We propose an abnormal event detection scheme based on the multimodal fused image and the human poses using the keypoints to characterize the action of the human body. Our method assumes that human behaviors are well correlated to body keypoints such as shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips. In detail, we extracted the human keypoint coordinates from human targets in multimodal fused videos. The coordinate values are used as inputs to train a multilayer perceptron network to classify human behaviors as normal or abnormal. Our experiment demonstrates a significant result on multimodal imaging dataset. The proposed model can capture the complex distribution pattern for both normal and abnormal behaviors.
