The COMS(Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite), a multi-mission geo-stationary satellite, is being developed by KARl. The first mission of the COMS is the meteorological image and data gathering for weather forecast by using a five channel meteorological imager. The second mission is the oceanographic image and data gathering for marine environment monitoring around Korean Peninsula by using an eight channel Geostationary Ocean Color Imager(GOCI). The third mission is newly developed Ka-Band communication payload certification test in space by providing communication service in Korean Peninsula and Manjurian area. There were many low Earth orbit satellites for ocean monitoring. However, there has never been any geostationary satellite for ocean monitoring. The COMS is going to be the first satellite for ocean monitoring mission on the geo-stationary orbit. The meteorological image and data obtained by the COMS will be distributed to end users in Asia-Pacific area and it will contribute to the improved weather forecast.

This study describes the design and implementation of Antenna for Digital Satellite Communication. The Antenna unit for SHF band consists of Reflector, Septom Polarizer, Feed Horn and Support Frame etc. Thought analysis of space environment before production, the possibility of the malfunction of equipment minimized and we designed a reliable Antenna through simulation for vibration and thermal analysis generated during the launch, and compared pre-simulation of main performance results to test results about main performances of Antenna after production. After fabricating the antenna, the maximum gain of the antenna main beam is 36.5dBi, which satisfies the requirement of 35dBi or more, and it also satisfies the requirement of -20dB for return loss of less than -24dB. Also, the isolation of the transmission and reception of the antenna is -22.6dB or less, which satisfies the requirement of -20dB or less. The antenna for digital satellite communication described in this paper can be used in the satellite field of geostationary earth orbit and low earth orbit requiring high reliability in the future.
In this paper, the communication performance and its characteristics of the polar Low Earth Orbit(LEO) mobile satellite have been described in terms of the generalized performance parameters via geometric modeling and analysis. Especially, the general formula related to the parameters such as the number of orbits(M) and the number of satellites per orbit(N) were derived in the LEO satellite system for voice service, and then we applied the general result to IRIDIUM system(M=6, N=11) that would be scheduled to commercialize soon. The offered traffic of Inter Satellite Link(ISL), ISL link blocking probability as well as both new call blocking probability and the probability of forced termination for the on going call are calculated as the result of performance analysis.

In recent years there has been a huge increase in demand for new various communication services due to the rapid advances in wireless communication. These new emerging services give rise to the interference with the existed radio system. As the new representative systems NGSO/MSS systems have been developed, using NGSO, especially Low Earth Orbit (LEO), satellites such as Iridium, Globalstar systems to provide the rapid transfer of information and the positioning services for the moving persons whenever they want to communicate, even if wherever they are. In this paper we have analysed on the interference between the feeder link of NGSO/MSS and M/W fixed system, that is the interference from the mobile satellite earth station into M/W station, as well as the interference from M/W station into the mobile satellite earth station, and the coordinated area.

6G network technology represents the next generation of communications, supporting high-speed connectivity, ultra-low latency, and integration with cutting-edge technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), virtual reality, and autonomous vehicles. These advancements promise to drive transformative changes in digital society. However, as technology progresses, the demand for efficient data transmission and energy management between smart devices and network equipment also intensifies. A significant challenge within 6G networks is the optimization of interactions between satellites and smart devices. This study addresses this issue by introducing a new game theory-based technique aimed at minimizing system-wide energy consumption and latency. The proposed technique reduces the processing load on smart devices and optimizes the offloading decision ratio to effectively utilize the resources of Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed technique achieves a 30% reduction in energy consumption and a 40% improvement in latency compared to existing methods, thereby significantly enhancing performance.

Recently, SpaceX, private enterprise dealing in space development company, has reported a plan for launching of low earth orbit satellites via Starlink Business, and launched 900 satellites until now. Concretely, it plans tp operate Ku/Ka band satellite, and launch 7,518 of V band satellites for broadband communication. Therefore, wireless communication service for ship will be provided, and various solutions will be offered through the low earth orbit satellites. In this work, we investigated RF characteristics of coplanar waveguide employing periodic 3D coupling structures, and examined its potential for a development of marine radio communication FISoC (fully-integrated system on chip) semiconductor device.
COsmicheskaya Sisteyama Poiska Avariynich Sudov Search and Rescue Satellite-Aided Tracking (COSPAS-SARSAT) is an international communication support program to perform search and rescue (SAR) operations in emergency situations by using satellite signals relayed from a beacon. The legacy COSPAS-SARSAT was originally composed of low altitude and geostationary Earth orbit satellites; thus, a limited number of directional dish antennas was sufficient to cover the limited number of visible satellites at the local user terminal. However, the second generation COSPAS-SARSAT newly added the medium Earth orbit satellites, e.g., Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) to the existing system, so that the number of visible satellites increase dramatically, and the system upgrade to cover all the visible satellites is foreseen. The additional use of planned Korea Positioning System (KPS) to existing GNSS is envisaged to provide a better performance of their SAR service. This paper presents the benefits of the additional use of KPS together with the phased array antennas at the local user terminal of the COSPAS-SARSAT. This is to effectively response to the increase of the number of visible satellites. Numerical simulation is included to evaluate the performance improvement of COSPAS-SARSAT in terms of the number of visible satellites, geometry between satellites and user, and position estimation accuracy.
Since low earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellations have important advantages over geosynchronous earth orbit (GEO) systems such as low propagation delay, low power requirements, and more efficient spectrum allocation due to frequency reuse between satellites and spotbeams, they are considered to be used to complement the existing terrestrial fixed and wireless networks in the evolving global mobile network. However, one of the major problems with LEO satellites is their higher speed relative to the terrestrial mobile terminals, which move at lower speeds but at more random directions. Therefore, handover management in LEO satellite networks becomes a very challenging task for supporting global mobile communication. Efficient and accurate methods are needed for LEO satellite handovers between the moving footprints. In this paper, we propose a new seamless handover management scheme for LEO satellites (SeaHO-LEO), which utilizes the handover management schemes aiming at decreasing latency, data loss, and handover blocking probability. We also present another interesting handover management model called satellite mobility pattern based handover management in LEO satellites (PatHO-LEO) which takes mobility pattern of both satellites and mobile terminals into account to minimize the handover messaging traffic. This is achieved by the newly introduced billboard manager which is used for location updates of mobile users and satellites. The billboard manager makes the proposed handover model much more flexible and easier than the current solutions, since it is a central server and supports the management of the whole system. To show the performance of the proposed algorithms, we run an extensive set of simulations both for the proposed algorithms and well known handover management methods as a baseline model. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithms are very promising for seamless handover in LEO satellites.

Cargo tracking issue on train transportation is challenging area because of long distance haulage, theft, terror attack and customer service. This paper aims at evaluating various cargo tracking systems in terms of cost and technology. The contents of this paper consist of the research trend of cargo tracking system in the railroad transportation and reviewing of technical alternatives in cost and service side. GNSS and RFID are reviewed as location tracking technology, Internet and Satellite technology like INMASAT and Low Earth Orbit are also reviewed as communication infrastructure. This paper selects cost and service factors in two alternatives of GNSS-Satellite and RFID-Internet, among GNSS-Internet, GNSS, Satellite, RFID-Internet, RFID-Satellite and evaluate each alternative in terms of cost and service. In a result, in terms of cost, RFID-Internet type is superior to GNSS-Satellite type, but in service GNSS-Satellite type is preferred to RFID-Internet in point of area coverage and service coverage.
The design and analysis of satellite power subsystem is an important driver for the mass, size, and capability of the satellite. Every other satellite subsystem is affected by the power subsystem, and in particular, important issues such as launch vehicle selection, thermal design, and structural design are largely influenced by the capabilities and limitations of the power system. This paper introduces a new electrical power subsystem design program for the rapid development of LEO satellite and shows an example of design results using other LEO satellite design data. The results shows that the proposed design program can be used the optimum sizing and the analytical prediction of the on-orbit performance of satellite electrical power subsystem.
