An electrical burn used to result in the damage of the skin and underlying deep soft tissue injury. Thus, in order to preserve devitalizing tissues and promote the structural survival free flaps with ample blood supply are frequently employed. However, early unpredictable vascular injury and progressive tissue necrosis may cause the free flaps full of hazards. We applied 50 free flaps upon 41 acute electrical burn cases between 1998 and 2004. Injured areas, timing of operation and causes of flap loss were studied. The victim's ages ranged from 13 to 60 years. (an average 37.8 years) Thirteen out of 50 free flaps were lost totally: three cases were due to arterial insufficiency and ten venous congestion. Total loss of flaps were observed in 5 of 12 cases in the postoperative 3 weeks, 6 of 20 cases between 3 and 6 weeks and 2 of 18 cases after 6 weeks. In three of 12 cases the free flap was lost partially in the postoperative 3 weeks, 4 of 20 cases between 3 and 6 weeks and 1 of 18 cases after 6 weeks. The result was statistically significant by a T-test (p<0.05). This study showed that timing of the operation is accountable for the loss of free flap. It is most important to conduct the free flap procedure on an electrical injury at the time when the recipient vessel is definitely discernible and intact so as to minimize the loss of flap and spare the structures.
This study was carried out to investigate conveyance environment during shipping export to Japan and the optimum pre-treatment of cut Dendranthema grandiflorum 'Baekma'. Shipping from Korea to Japan, which usually takes three to five days, requires keeping the flower at the ideal temperature. When inspection took place in Japan, the ideal temperature was lost and deterioration began. Once the ideal temperature is lost, deterioration takes place. The results of this work showed that vase life was extended by treatment Chrysal RVB and NaOCl compared to the control (distilled water), and Chrysal RVB was used to maintain the flower from bud to full bloom. Bacterial growth was not observed after pretreatment with NaOCl or $ClO_2$. However, $ClO_2$ pre-treatment was observed to affect the early growth period of the bacteria. The chlorophyll content was the highest after Chrysal RVB or NaOCl pretreatment compared to the other treatments. Therefore, these results support pretreatment with NaOCl and Chrysal RVB of Dendranthema grandiflorum 'Baekma' for export to Japan.
A thiol protease has been isolated and partially purified from encysted brine shrimp Artemia franciscana using a four-step procedure(filtration, salting out, gel filtration and ion exchange chromatography). The optimum pH of the enzyme for caseinolytic activity was appeared to be 3.0, and the enzymematic activity was stable up to pH 6.0 but lost completely at the pH higher than 8.0. The optimal temperature of the enzyme was appeared to be 35$^{\circ}$C, and ninety percent of the enzyme activity was lost at 45$^{\circ}$C. Various metal ions, e.g., zinc, copper, iron, inhibited the enzyme activity; however, heavy metal chelator, e.g., EDTA, stimulated the enzyme activity. The protease was concluded to be a member of the thiol group protease, since it was inhibited by thiol protease inhibitors and iodoacetate. The protease was also concluded to be a acid protease based on optimum pH.

This paper introduces the existence of purchase dependence that was identified during the analysis of inventory operations practice at a sales agency of dealing with spare parts for ship engines and generators. Purchase dependence is an important factor in designing an inventory replenishment policy. However, it has remained mostly unaddressed. Purchase dependence is different from demand dependence. Purchase dependence deals with the purchase behavior of customers, whereas demand dependence deals with the relationship between item-demands. In order to deal with purchase dependence in inventory operations practice, this paper proposes (Q, r) models with the consideration of purchase dependence. Through a computer simulation experiment, this paper compares performance of the proposed (Q, r) models to that of a (Q, r) model ignoring purchase dependence. The simulation experiment is conducted for two cases : a case of using a lost sale cost and a case of using a service level. For a case of using a lost sale cost, this paper calculates an order quantity, Q and a reorder point, r using the iterative procedure. However, for a case of using a service level, it is not an easy task to find Q and r. The complexity stems from the interactions among inventory replenishment policies for items. Thus, this paper considers the genetic algorithm (GA) as an optimization method. The simulation results demonstrates that the proposed (Q, r) models incur less inventory operations cost (satisfies better service levels) than a (Q, r) model ignoring purchase dependence. As a result, the simulation results supports that it is important to consider purchase dependence in the inventory operations practice.

In the field of combined cycle power generation, thermal barrier coating(TBC) protects the super-heat-resistant alloy, which forms the core component of the gas turbine, from high temperature exposure. As the turbine inlet temperature(TIT) increases, TBC is more important and durability performance is also important when considering maintenance cost and safety. Therefore, studies have been made on the fabrication method of TBC and super-heat-resistant alloy in order to improve the performance of the TBC. In recent years, due to excellent properties such as high temperature creep resistance and high temperature strength, turbine blade material have been replaced by a single crystal superalloy, however there is a lack of research on TBC applied to single crystal superalloy. In this study, to understand the isothermal degradation performance of the TBC applied to the single crystal superalloy, isothermal exposure test was conducted at various temperature to derive the delamination life. The growth curve of thermally grown oxide(TGO) layer was predicted to evaluate the isothermal degradation performance. Also, microstructural analysis was performed by scanning electron microscope(SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) to determine the effect of mixed oxide formation on the delamination life.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the accuracy of digitally designed removable partial denture (RPD) frameworks, constructed by additive and subtractive methods castable resin patterns, using comparative 3D analysis. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A Kennedy class III mod. 1 educational maxillary model was used in this study. The cast was scanned after modification, and a removable partial denture framework was digitally designed. Twelve frameworks were constructed. Two groups were defined: Group A: six frameworks were milled with castable resin, then casted by the lost wax technique into Co-Cr frameworks; Group B: six frameworks were printed with castable resin, then casted by the lost wax technique into Co-Cr frameworks. Comparative 3D analysis was used to measure the accuracy of the fabricated frameworks using Geomagic Control X software. Student's t-test was used for comparing data. P value ≤ .05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS. Regarding the accuracy of the occlusal rests, group A (milled) (0.1417 ± 0.0224) showed significantly higher accuracy than group B (printed) (0.02347 ± 0.0221). The same results were found regarding the 3D comparison of the overall accuracy, in which group A (0.1501 ± 0.0205) was significantly more accurate than group B (0.179 ± 0.0137). CONCLUSION. In indirect fabrication techniques, subtractive manufacturing yields more accurate RPDs than additive manufacturing.
This study focused on the literary world of T. Tolstaya, a Russian writer who takes a crucial position in contemporary Russian literature, drawing upon the wrier's a couple of short stories. 'Youth' is a key motive encompassing all works of Tolstaya, so that it becomes the poetic keynote among her literary works. In order to examine such distinctions of the main characters' world awareness in their youth as shown in Tolstaya's literary works, Chapter 2 of this paper paid a special attention to the analyse of her representative works such as "Sitting on a Golden Terracing Stone" and "Meeting with a Bird", and expressed potential implications of youth with mimetic imagination for her. For Tolstaya, youth is perceived as a paradise but original imagination of youth gradually fades away in adult and ends up with a lost paradise. This is why Tolstaya uses poetic means based on nostalgia for youth like paradise and literary motto for recovery of imagination in youth. In this regard, this study particularly examined the retrospective prologue resisting the power of time as well as different fictional characters living in her own fantastic world. As a result, this study draws a conclusion that such longing and nostalgia for youth and lost paradise as delineated by Tolstaya through retrospective prologue and characters speak for an existential speculation that explores any profound implication of afflictions in reality of human life, rather than focusing on the painful reality of human life which consists of honest dialogues with realities like 'darkness' and 'pain.' In addition, this study, complying with Zolotonosov's ideas which deal with and define Tolstaya's literary works as a shabby and humble box invisibly containing a full wealth of precious jewels inside, sheds a new light on the writer's literary world.

Purpose: The perigastric vagus nerve may play an important role in preserving function after gastrectomy, and intraoperative neurophysiologic tests might represent a feasible method of evaluating the vagus nerve. The purpose of this study is to assess the feasibility of neurophysiologic evaluations of the function and viability of perigastric vagus nerve branches during gastrectomy. Materials and Methods: Thirteen patients (1 open total gastrectomy, 1 laparoscopic total gastrectomy, and 11 laparoscopic distal gastrectomy) were prospectively enrolled. The hepatic and celiac branches of the vagus nerve were exposed, and grabbing type stimulation electrodes were applied as follows: 10-30 mA intensity, 4 trains, $1,000{\mu}s/train$, and $5{\times}$frequency. Visible myocontractile movement and electrical signals were monitored via needle probes before and after gastrectomy. Gastrointestinal symptoms were evaluated preoperatively and postoperatively at 3 weeks and 3 months, respectively. Results: Responses were observed after stimulating the celiac branch in 10, 9, 10, and 6 patients in the antrum, pylorus, duodenum, and proximal jejunum, respectively. Ten patients responded to hepatic branch stimulation at the duodenum. After vagus-preserving distal gastrectomy, 2 patients lost responses to the celiac branch at the duodenum and jejunum (1 each), and 1 patient lost response to the hepatic branch at the duodenum. Significant procedure-related complications and meaningful postoperative diarrhea were not observed. Conclusions: Intraoperative neurophysiologic testing seems to be a feasible methodology for monitoring the perigastric vagus nerves. Innervation of the duodenum via the celiac branch and postoperative preservation of the function of the vagus nerves were confirmed in most patients.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical acceptability of the marginal and internal gap of Co-Cr metal copings fabricated with stereolithography (SLA). Methods: Titanium master dies were milled after scanning of the prepared tooth (n=30). For group I, Co-Cr metal copings were made from conventional lost-wax technique(LWT, n=10). For group II, the master dies were scanned and designed with CAD system. Then, metal copings were milled with Co-Cr(SUB, n=10). For group III(ADD, n=10), the scanning and design procedures were same as group II and burn-out resins were fabricated with SLA device. The marginal and internal discrepancies were measured under an optical microscope(100x) on ten reference points and were statistically analyzed with one-way ANOVA(${\alpha}=.05$). Results: The mean total discrepancies were $53.76{\pm}12.42{\mu}m$ in the LWT group and $69.82{\pm}15.48{\mu}m$ in the ADD group. The SUB group showed the largest total mean value $110.33{\pm}13.77{\mu}m$. There was statistically significant difference between the SUB and the other groups(P<0.05). Conclusion : Co-Cr metal copings fabricated with SLA technology showed clinically acceptable value on marginal and internal gap and there was no statistically significant difference between conventional lost-wax technique and SLA.

The stringent response (SR) is characterized as a bacterial defense mechanism in response to various growth-inhibiting stresses. It is activated by accumulation of a small nucleotide regulator, (p)ppGpp, and induces global changes in bacterial transcription and translation. Recent work from our group has shown that (p)ppGpp plays a critical role in virulence and survival in Vibrio cholerae. The genes, relA and relV, are involved in the production of (p)ppGpp, while the spoT gene encodes an enzyme that hydrolyzes it in V. cholerae. A mutant strain defective in (p)ppGpp production (i.e. ${\Delta}relA{\Delta}relV{\Delta}spoT$ mutant) lost the ability to produce cholera toxin (CT) and lost their viability due to uncontrolled production of organic acids, when grown with extra glucose. In contrast, the ${\Delta}relA{\Delta}spoT$ mutant, a (p)ppGpp overproducer strain, produced enhanced level of CT and exhibited better growth in glucose supplemented media via glucose metabolic switch from organic fermentation to acetoin, a neutral fermentation end product, fermentation. These findings indicates that (p)ppGpp, in addition to its well-known role as a SR mediator, positively regulates CT production and maintenance of growth fitness in V. cholerae. This implicates SR as a promising drug target, inhibition of which may possibly downregulate V. cholerae virulence and survival fitness. Therefore, we screened a chemical library and identified a compound that induces medium acidification (termed iMAC) and thereby loss of wild type V. cholerae viability under glucose-rich conditions. Further, we present a potential mechanism by which the compound inhibits (p)ppGpp accumulation. Together, these results indicate that iMAC treatment causes V. cholerae cells to produce significantly less (p)ppGpp, an important regulator of the bacterial virulence and survival response, and further suggesting that it has a therapeutic potential to be developed as a novel antibacterial agent against cholera.
