  • In this paper, we propose an FSSH(Folded Slot Spherical Helix) magnetic dipole antenna with a form factor easy to build and study its radiation properties. The number of folded arms, the gap between them and the metal thickness are tuned to achieve relatively simple structure to realize whereas maintaining high radiation efficiency at an electrically small size. The proposed design shows wide radiation efficiency bandwidth and it is confirmed by circuit simulation that the non-Foster impedance matching techniques could be utilized for its practical use. The prototype of the proposed antenna is built with the aid of an SLS(Selective Laser Sintering) 3D printing technology. The measured result shows lower Q impedance characteristic due to high resistive loss of the copper tape joints.

  • In this paper, we present the integrated network architecture for supporting mobile IP in third generation mobile communication networks, and propose the end-to-end QoS control mechanisms of DiffServ and QoS control functions of each network element in the proposed network. First, the QoS supporting schemes of IMT-2000 are described. Second, the necessities of integrating the networks are discussed and the integrated architecture are proposed. Third, the mapping between wireless channels and DiffServ classes are presented. Finally, the end-to-end QoS control mechanisms are proposed. We also analyze the link level protocols with QoS provisioning for mobile multimedia assuming that the system support voice and data traffic simultaneously. In case of data traffic, the delay and throughput of SREJ ARQ and Type-1 Hybrid ARQ scheme are compared, and In case of voice traffic, the packet loss rate of BCH coding is analyzed according to the varying data traffic loads. The results indicate that the adaptive link level protocols are efficient to meet the QoS requirements while the complexities are increased.

  • Misaligned wind-wave and seismic loading render offshore wind turbines suffering from excessive bi-directional vibration. However, most of existing research in this field focused on unidirectional vibration mitigation, which is insufficient for research and real application. Based on the authors' previous work (Sun and Jahangiri 2018), the present study uses a three dimensional pendulum tuned mass damper (3d-PTMD) to mitigate the nacelle structural response in the fore-aft and side-side directions under wind, wave and near-fault ground motions. An analytical model of the offshore wind turbine coupled with the 3d-PTMD is established wherein the interaction between the blades and the tower is modelled. Aerodynamic loading is computed using the Blade Element Momentum (BEM) method where the Prandtl's tip loss factor and the Glauert correction are considered. Wave loading is computed using Morison equation in collaboration with the strip theory. Performance of the 3d-PTMD is examined on a National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) monopile 5 MW baseline wind turbine under misaligned wind-wave and near-fault ground motions. The robustness of the mitigation performance of the 3d-PTMD under system variations is studied. Dual linear TMDs are used for comparison. Research results show that the 3d-PTMD responds more rapidly and provides better mitigation of the bi-directional response caused by misaligned wind, wave and near-fault ground motions. Under system variations, the 3d-PTMD is found to be more robust than the dual linear TMDs to overcome the detuning effect. Moreover, the 3d-PTMD with a mass ratio of 2% can mitigate the short-term fatigue damage of the offshore wind turbine tower by up to 90%.

  • This paper proposes an electronically beam steering array antenna, consisting of single fed active element and 4 parasitic elements, operating in 5.8 GHz ISM band. Beam steering can be achieved by controlling the reactance of the variable reactance control circuit connected to the load of the parasitic elements without using the high cost phase shifters. The proposed antenna realizes ${\pm}30^{\circ}$ beam scanning of E-plane and H-plane with the below -10 dB return loss in ISM band. The gain of the $6.18{\sim}7.53\;dBi$ in E-plane and $7.022{\sim}7.779\;dBi$ in H-plane is shown in the scanning range.

  • In this paper, a planar equi-phase power divider is proposed using fixed phase shifters. As the integrability of a phased array antenna increases for accurate beam steering, a conventional method to excite equi-phase signals to all element antennas, extending the feedline, has spatial limitations. Therefore, the planar equi-phase power divider is designed using a defected ground structure with a planar phase shift function without intentional feedline extension. The defected ground structure has been considered for a low insertion loss and a controllable phase shift, whereas the power divider has been designed and implemented with a port-to-port isolation and a planar configuration.

  • This paper suggested the vibration characteristic improvement by variation mode of ring type ultrasonic motor. Design for the piezoelectric ceramic and elastic body of stator were calculated by the finite element method(FEM) that consider the resonance frequency, vibration mode and coupling efficiency etc. Through the result of vibration analysis from 6 order mode to 8 mode, the 7 order mode was gained very an excellent results that it was the coupling efficient, minimum power loss and bending vibration value. Here over 7 order mode, was acquired that an output current for input voltage was very a large increased results. The result of vibration calculation, from thickness 0.5[mm] to 2[mm], know the fact that the vibration displacement at 0.5[mm] is an high value too. From such analysis result, this paper was manufactured the ultrasonic motor of outer diameter 50[mm], inter 22[mm] having the about 43.86[KHz] resonance frequency. We have gated that a simulation result is 42.2[KHz] and an experiment result is 43.86[KHz]. Then, a propriety of this paper was established the result almost similar to though comparison, investigation of simulation and experiment result.

  • A kinematically constrained microplane constitutive model is developed for intact granite. The model is verified by fitting the experimented data of Westerly granite and Bonnet granite. Using the model with the standard finite element method, the behavior of the intact granite subjected blasting impact is studied. What is studied includes the attenuation of the blasting waves, the size of the fractured zone and the effect of the charge condition to avoid overbreak of the rock mass. The model developed captures the energy loss due to the inelastic behavior and the microcracking of granite during blasting very well. The attenuation of the blasting waves calculated based on the model is much more than that based on the linear-elastic constitutive law. The size of damaged (or fractured) zone is calculated directly from the principal strain as blasting impact is spreading, not like in the case with the linear elasticity model.

  • In this paper, the microstrip phased array antennas with coupling-slots for the base station of mobile communication is proposed and anlyzed with accurate analysis method which is based on both reciprocity principle and full-wave analysis. The basis functions used for the numerical analysis are determined depending upon the accuracy, convergence properties of the solution, and the computation time. The patch uses 3 EB mode and the slot uses IPWS mode. The designed phased array antenna has 8 slot-coupled microstrip patch array elements and the beam scanning capability is obtained by using the 4-bit PIN-diode phase shifters as switching devices which are consisted of the loaded line phase shifters for 30.deg. and 60.deg. and the reflection type phase shifters for 90.deg. and 180.deg. repectively. The 4-bits phase shifters which aremade by connecting each phase shifter have about 2.deg.-3.deg. phase errors and their insertion loss are about 3dB for each phase state. The fabricated 8-element phased array antenna with 4-bits phase shifters provides 12.deg.-14.deg. beamwidths depending on the scanning angle and is capable of scanning its beam to .+-.45.deg. with 9.deg. intervals, and the gain 12dBi. The overall results show that the slot-coupled phased array antenna has great advantages of wideband, high gain and reduced spurious radiation. Also, the antenna can be made small and thin. Furthermore, the scanning property of this antenna allows for its application in several areas, such as mobile communication system and PCS.

  • A new underground LNG storage concept in the rock mass has been developed by combining underground cavern construction and new ice-ring harrier technologies with the conventional cryogenic insulation system. Technical feasibility of the storage system has been verified through construction and operation of the pilot storage cavern and a full-scale project is expected to start in the near future. One of the most important issues in the LNG storage system is the operational efficiency of the storage to minimize heat loss during a long period of operation due to the cryogenic heat transfer. This paper presents several important results of heat transfer and coupled hydro-thermal analyses by a finite element code Temp/W and Seep/W. A series of heat transfer analyses for full-scale caverns were performed to determine design parameters such as boil-off gas ratio (BOR), insulation thickness and pillar width. The result of the coupled hydro-mechanical analysis showed that BOR for underground storage system remains at about 0.04 %/day during the early stage of the operation. This value could be even much lower when the discontinuities in the rock masses are taken into consideration.
