In previous studies, Convex cyclone are proposed to reduce pressure loss which are design cyclone wall with a single continuous curve. Studies about a prediction model for pressure loss and cut-size has focused on conventional cylinder-on-con cyclone. Therefore, the models do not perform well for uncommon design. In this study, a predict model for pressure loss and cut-size depend on cyclone wall curvature are developed. The tangential velocity below vortex-finder is obtained with consideration about friction area and momentum loss on the cyclone wall, and with this the variation of vortex-core and core velocity is obtained. Pressure loss is predicted using a Rankine vortex hypothesis. The prediction results are well agreed with experiments and CFD results.
This paper presents a logistic regression and GIS based urban ground sink susceptibility assessment using underground facility information considering soil particle loss. In the underground environment, the particle loss due to water flow or groundwater level change leads to the occurrence and expansion of cavities, which directly affect the ground sink. Four different contributory factors were selected according to the two underground facility domains (water pipeline area, sewer pipeline area) and subway line area. The logistic regression method was used to analyze the correlation and to derive the regression equation between the ground sink inventory and the contributory factors. Based on these results, three ground sink susceptibility maps were generated. The results obtained from this study are expected to provide basic data on the area susceptible to ground sink and needed to safety monitoring.

The noise sources in ship and offshore structure have an influence on adjacent receiving area through a partition between noise sources and receiving area. The partition in ship is usually made of stiffened plate. Sound transmission loss (STL) of the partition at high frequency could be improved by additional installation of insulation or wall panel. At low frequency, however, it is very difficult and needs an increase of plate thickness which causes a considerable weight increase of ship. In this paper, we have investigated the effect of the bulkhead boundary condition. From measurement result, we found that the bulkhead boundary condition can affect a lot in STL, especially at low frequency range. Finally, we get the 5dB increase in STL through the modification of boundary condition.
Single-tube burst tests on hydrogenated Zircaloy-4 nuclear fuel cladding under simulated loss-of-coolant accident are conducted to evaluate the impact of hydrogen on burst parameters. The heating rate and initial pressure are varied from 5 K/s to 150 K/s and 5 bar-80 bar, respectively. The hydrogen concentration in the cladding is in the range of 0-2000 wppm. Burst stress is lower for hydrogenated cladding in α-phase. A significant loss of ductility is observed in α-phase and lower α + β-phase for hydrogenated cladding. However, the burst strain is higher for hydrogenated cladding in β-phase. There is a sigmoidal dependency of rupture area with initial stress and rupture area is larger for hydrogenated cladding. A novel burst stress correlation for hydrogenated Zircaloy-4 cladding has been proposed.
Recently, the module-integrated converter has shown an interest in the photovoltaic generation system. In this system, the high frequency transformer should be compact and efficient. The proposed method is based on the correlation characteristic between the copper and core loss to minimize the loss of transformer. By sizing an effective cross-sectional area and window area of core, the amount of loss is minimized. This paper presents the design and analysis of high frequency transformer by using the 3D finite element model coupled with DC-DC converter circuit for more accurate analysis by considering the nonlinear voltage and current waveforms in converter circuit. The current waveform in each winding is realized by using the ideal DC voltage source and switching component. And, the thermal analysis is performed to satisfy the electrical and thermal design criteria.
Efficiency and limitations of HAZUS-MH, a GIS based systematic and informative system developed by FEMA and NIBS for natural hazard loss estimations, are discussed by means of a pilot study in the Korean Peninsular. Gyeongsang-do has been selected for the test after careful reviews of previous studies including historical and modern seismicity in the peninsular. A ShakeMap for the selected scenario earthquake with magnitude 6.7 in Gyeongju area is prepared. Then, any losses due to the scenario event have been estimated using HAZUS. Results of the pilot test show that the study area may experience significant physical, economic and social damages. Detailed study in the future will provide efficient and crucial information to the decision makers and emergency agents to mitigate any disaster posed by natural hazards.
Recently, Interior Permanent Magnet Machine(IPM) is widely used for traction motor in the high speed train. Higher efficiency and power density are the superb performance of IPM. Due to the high power density, however, it has lots of heat source which are originated from copper losses and core losses. These heat source can cause the permanent demagnetization in magnet and the loss of torque and power. To prevent the undesirable loss in the traction motor, the accurate loss calculation and the thermal analysis should be preceded. Especially, the end-winding area and permanent magnet area should be examined correctly. In this paper, the electromagnetic fields were examined by finite element method to analyze the electromagnetic properties of IPM and thermal analysis are carried out with pre-calculated losses. To validate the analysis result, the experiment set with forced air cooling system is manufactured.

The objective of this study is to estimate quantitatively soil salinity and soil loss at upland soils in agriculture land region in Saemangeum reclaimed land on the south Korea coasts. Soil loss and soil salinity are the most critical problem at reclaimed tidal saline soil in Korea. The several thematic maps of research area such as land cover map, topographic and soil maps, together with tabular precipitation data used for soil erosion and soil salinity calculation. Meteorological data were measured directly as air temperature, wind speed, solar radiation, and precipitation. The experiment was conducted 2% sloped lysimeter ($5.0m{\times}20.0m$) with 14 treatments and it were separated by low salinity division (LSD) and high salinity division (HSD) install. The cation content in ground water increased during time course, but in the case of land surface water the content was variable, and $K^+$ was lower than that of $Na^+$ and $Mg^{2+}$. At the LSD under rainproof condition, the salinity was directly proportional to soil water content, but at the HSD the tendency was no reversed. In condition of rainproof, the amount of soil salinity was higher at the HSD than at the LSD. Positive correlation was obtained between the soil water content and available phosphorous content at the rainfall division, but there was no significance at the surface soil of the rainproof division. Sodium adsorption ratio and anion contents in soil were repressed in the order of vinyl-mulching > non-mulching > bare field. According to the result of analyzing soil loss, soil loss occurred in a vinyl-mulching, a non-mulching and a bare field in size order, and also approximately 11.2 ton/ha soil loss happened on the reclaimed land area. The average soil loss amount by the unit area takes place in a non-mulching and bare field a lot. Our results indicate that soluble salt control and soil erosion are critical at reclaimed tidal saline soil and the results can provide some useful information for deciding management plans to reduce soil loss and salt damage for stable crop production and diverse utilization or cultivation could be one of the management options to alleviate salt damage at reclaimed tidal saline soil in Korea.

This study evaluated the soil loss considering the R-Factor value following the climate change. To calculate the soil loss of the basin in Jaun-ri, Hongcheon-gun which is the study area, the future climate change scenario and convenience revision were used to build the past 30 years, future 30 years R-Factor and it was applied to USLE model. As a result, as the R-Factor value declined a little in the future, the soil loss was also reduced but it corresponds to the 'very high' according to the OECD soil loss grade so the solution to reduce the soil loss is necessary and it can be used for another study material.
Solar energy had become the main energy industry of renewable energy along with hydroelectric power generation. One of the technologies that contributed to the popularization of photovoltaic power and the decrease in the unit price of photovoltaic modules was the large-area solar cell. However, as the area increased, the light receiving area increased and the current value increased accordingly. Since power loss occurs when the current value was large, the number of busbar was increased to increase the current collection rate, and a technology to lower the current value through half-cutting was developed. The bus bar of the solar cell served as a passage through which the generated current was transmitted. This was because when the number of busbar decreases, the moving distance of electrons increased, so the amount of power generation decreases and when it increases, shadows occured. An important aspect of the electrode design was the optimal balance of these busbars and number of fingers. Therefore, in this study, the characteristics of the solar cell according to the number of front bus bars of the large-area solar cell were simulated using Griddler 2,5 pro. After selecting the number of busbar with the best characteristics, the difference was compared by varying the number of fingers and a better direction for the number of cutting was presented.
