Chemical Components and Meat Quality Traits Related to Palatability of Ten Primal Cuts from Hanwoo Carcasses

  • To determine chemical components and meat quality traits related to palatability of 10 primal cuts, 25 Hanwoo carcasses were selected from 5 carcasses × 5 quality grades and used to obtain proximate data and meat quality characteristics. Significant differences (p<0.05) in chemical component and meat quality were found among the 10 primal cuts. The highest fat content was found in the kalbi, followed by dungsim, yangjee, chaekeut, ansim, abdari, suldo, moksim, udun, and satae. Protein and moisture contents in the 10 primal cuts were in reverse order of fat content. Moksim had the highest drip loss % and cooking loss % than all other primal cuts while kalbi showed the lowest (p<0.05) percentage of drip and cooking loss. Ansim had the longest sarcomere length but the lowest shear force values than all other cuts (p<0.05). The highest (p<0.05) score for overall acceptability was observed in ansim. Moksim, udun, abdari, and satae were rated the lowest (p<0.05) in overall acceptability among the 10 primal cuts from Hanwoo carcasses. In conclusion, ansim, dungsim, chaekeut, and kalbi had the highest overall acceptability due to their higher fat contents and lower shear force values.

  • Thermal bridge on a building envelope causes additional heat loss which increases the heating energy consumption. As the higher building insulation performance is required, heat loss through thermal bridge becomes higher proportion among total building heating energy consumption. For the exterior insulation and finish system, thermal bridge between window frame and concrete wall should be constidered as one of main reasons of heat loss. In this study, the thermal bridge barrier between window frame and concrete wall(STAR) was proposed as the best practice for reducing thermal bridge. The STAR was confirmed that the use of thermal bridge barrier imporved the annual heat energy capacity by 35% or more and the innitial construction cost by 7.4% or less because of additional interior insulation against condensation. Finally the life cycle cost during 20 year by heating energy of a building reduced by 25% or more compared with the exist technology. This STAR thermal bridge barrier will be used as the main technology to improve the energy efficiency of building.

  • 대규모 시설물이나 복잡한 시설물에 화재가 발생하였을 때 대피해야 할 사람들에게 화재의 발생 위치와 비상구의 위치에 따른 적절한 대피 안내가 이루어지지 못한다면 대규모의 인명피해를 입을 수 있다. 따라서 화재 방재시스템의 적용 및 인명 피해를 최소화 할 수 있도록 최적의 대피경로를 안내하여 줄 수 있는 대피경로 안내시스템이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 화재 발생에 따른 인명피해를 줄이기 위한 방법으로 센서 네트워크와 결합한 최적의 대피 경로 안내시스템을 제안하였다. 본 연구의 실험 결과에 따르면 제안된 대피경로 안내시스템은 최적의 대피경로를 구조물 안의 대피인원들에게 화재 상황에 따라 적절하게 실시간으로 안내하여 줌으로써 대피에 소요되는 시간을 줄일 수 있음을 확인 할 수 있었다.

동측 반맹 및 시력저하를 호소하는 후두엽 및 측두엽 뇌출혈 환자 한의복합치료 1례 (A Case of Combined Korean Medicine Treatment for Homonymous Hemianopia and Loss of Visual Acuity after hemorrhagic Stroke)

  • Background: Although not clarified, the overall prevalence of visual field loss after stroke was estimated at 52% of stroke survivors and for visual acuity loss, at 70% of them. Among visual field loss patients after stroke, homonymous hemianopia is the most common symptom. Visual defect degrades the quality of life by disrupting independent life and affecting the survival of the patients, but highly-evidenced treatment has not been found until now. ■Case report A 51-year-old female with left-side homonymous hemianopia and central vision loss by a right occipital-temporal hemorrhage was treated with Hyeolbuchukeo-tang, Ikgibohyeol-tang, acupuncture, electroacupuncture, and moxibustion. We used a confrontation visual field exam, automated perimetry and visual analog scale, and visual acuity test to observe changes in the patient's symptoms and evaluate the efficacy of the treatment. After 61 days of such interventions, the patient's subjective discomfort lessened, followed by positive changes in the scales of tests mentioned above. ■Conclusion This case suggests that combined Korean medicine treatment might be an effective tool for treating post-stroke homonymous hemianopia and central vision loss. More studies should be conducted to support the effectiveness of the treatment.

  • 잘 알려져 있는 것처럼 일반적인 베이즈 추정량(Bayes estimator)과 경험적 베이즈 추정량(empirical Bayes estimator)은 모수를 추정하는데 있어서 오차를 과다축소하는 단점을 가지고 있다. 따라서 이러한 단점을 극복하기 위하여 constrained 베이즈 추정량이 일차 적률과 이차 적률을 일치시키는 성질을 만족시키며 제안되었다. 또한 평균 제곱오차 함수와 같은 전통적인 손실함수에서는 추정의 정확성만을 고려하는 특징을 가지고 있기 때문에, 추정의 정확성과 정합성을 동시에 고려하는 균형 손실함수가 제안되었다. 이러한 이유로 인하여 균형손실 함수하에서의 제한적 베이즈 추정량의 활용이 손해 보험의 가격 산출에 제안되는 것은 타당하다. 그러나 대부분의 연구는 추정의 문제에만 집중하는 경향이 있으며. 이는 새롭게 제안되는 특정 손실함수하에서의 constrained 베이즈 추정량과 constrained empirical 베이즈 추정량의 베이즈 위험의 계산이 어렵다는 점에서 기인한다. 본 연구에서는 다양한 베이즈 추정량들에 대한 베이즈 위험을 서로 다른 두 손실함수하에서 비교하였으며, 그 대상은 자동차 보험 산업에서의 위험도 추정 분야이다. 또한 자동차 보험 산업의 실제 사고 데이터를 이용하여 새롭게 제안된 베이즈 추정량의 베이즈 위험을 비교함으로써 그 효용성을 입증하였다.

신중년세대와 노인의 청력상태가 삶의 질에 미치는 영향요인 (The Effects of Hearing Status on the Quality of Life in the New Middle Age and Elderly)

  • Objectives: There are few studies which reflects of each generation's own features, of the New Middle Age and the Elderly's hearing status and their quality of life even though the population of old age has been weighted as baby boom generation's entering into old age. This study is to identify the effects of the new middle age and the elderly's hearing status on their quality of life and to prepare the customized health policies for their health promotion and quality of life improvement as well as the base line data for hearing enhancement programs. Methods: This study was analyzed using the data of the 7th term of the National Health and Nutrition Survey of the Disease Management headquarters. Out of 8,150 adults over the age of 50 who participated in the hearing test, 3,306 were selected and analyzed. Results: At the result of identifying the correlation of hearing status and the quality of life between the New Middle Age and the Elderly, it was confirmed that hearing loss affects low quality of life. The average of quality of life between the New Middle Age and the Elderly was 0.95 and 0.85 each, resulting in higher quality of life in New Middle Age than in the Elderly. The factors affecting the quality of life of the New Middle Age were the level of the education, household income, the type of health insurance, subjective health status. The factors affecting the quality of life of the Elderly were gender, the type of health insurance, subjective health status. Conclusion: Hearing loss of the New Middle Age and the Elderly affects their low quality of life. Therefore the development and the provision of policy program is needed, so as to maintain and manage hearing through age-specific health education. It is expected that the second half of the New Middle Age's life will be much happier, if not taking the treatment-oriented approach of hearing loss only but strengthening the education needed for the maintenance and the management of healthy hearing at their work place, where 50 and 60 generations' workforce has been increased.

승강기용 전력변환장치의 IGBT 전력손실에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Power Loss Simulation of Inverter and Converter for Elevator)

  • In case of power electronics, th power loss and EMI noise of IGBT is different depends on a adopting technology with the same power rating. To reduce the EMI noise, we could increase the resistance of gate. But in this case, the power loss of IGBT is increased, In this paper, we simulated the power loss of IGBT with the speed profile of elevator by the changing IGBT type, the voltage between gate and emitter, the resistance of gate in converter and inverter for elevator. To optimize the power electronics with the satisfied life time, It is necessary that we calculate the power loss and the rise of temperature in IGBT with the adopting technology type, the resistence of gate, the voltage between gate and emitter.

Effects of Microbial Additive Supplementation on Meat Quality and Fatty Acid Profiles of Growing-Finishing Pigs

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of microbial additive on the meat quality and fatty acid (FA) profiles of growing-finishing pigs. A total of 180 growing-finishing pigs (Landrace × Yorkshire × Duroc; mixed sex; 14 weeks of age; 58.0 ± 1.00 kg) were randomly distributed into three treatments with three pens consisting of 20 growing-finishing pigs per pen for 60 days. The experimental treatments were as follows: 0, 0.5, and 1.0% microbial additive. The crude protein, cooking loss, drip loss, water holding capacity, and shear force in loin muscle were no significant differences among treatments (p>0.05), except for the moisture and crude fat contents. The pH and TBARS of loin muscle shown no significant differences among treatments (p>0.05). However, the L* and a* values of loin muscle were the highest in the 1.0% supplementation group compared with the other treatments (p<0.05). The b* value of loin muscle was the highest in the control group compared with the other treatments (p<0.05). Linolenic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid, docosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid, and n-3 FAs contents of loin muscle were the highest in 1.0% supplementation group compared with the other treatments (p<0.05). In conclusion, using 1.0% microbial additive supplementation can improve meat quality by increasing polyunsaturated FA concentration and meat color in pig loins.

한방 다이어트 식품 HBM(Healthy Body Maker)의 체중감소 및 혈청 콜레스테롤 저하 효과 (The Effect of HBM(Healthy Body Maker) on the Body Weight Loss and Serum Cholesterol Level in Rats)

  • This study was performed to investigate the effects of HBM(Healthy Body Maker) on the weight loss and serum cholesterol level of rats. Twenty male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 200$\pm$5g were grouped into 2. Rats were raised for 6 weeks with diet containing 0% and 5% of HBM. 1. There were no clinical signs for all the experimental period(6 weeks) in 0% and 5% groups. 2. At 3 and 6 weeks. body weight of 5% HBM group was significantly lower than that of control group. respectively(p<0.05, p<0.01). 3. At 4 weeks. the level of MCHC of 5% HBM group was significantly higher than that of control group(p<0.01) And at 6 weeks the level of RBC and Hct of 5% HBM group were significantly higher than those of control group(p<0.05) 4. At 6 weeks. the level of serum cholesterol of 5% HBM group was significantly lower than that of control group. 5. Absolute liver weight of 5% HBM group was significantly lower than that of control group(p<0.05). 6. Minor subaceous sickness of liver cell in the control group appeared but no symptom of liver cell in 5% HBM group. It is concluded that HBM was a safe and effective diet food which aided in inducing weight loss in rat without any observed harmful clinical side effects.
