  • The rise of the machine culture in the last 20th century has rapidly changed the world into a high-tech civilized society but at the same time, it also caused environmental estrangements such as damage in the environment and the loss of humanity in the human society due to materialism. As a reaction to the absence of humanity in such environment, in these modern days design which acts as the product of public art, escaped from the previous physical functional satisfaction and stood out as the culture industry that satisfies human's sensibility. This study is focusing on the method of how such sensitive designs are expressed in the interior space of retail shops and such methods are researched through the image evaluation test conducted to the 10 brands of overseas' jewelery shops. The purpose of this study is to analyze the meaning and effects of designs that took consideration of sensibility in a retail shop and to establish efficient marketing strategy using sensitive design and to utilize it into the interior space.

  • Cases of insulation breakdown damage of water-cooled generator stator windings occur frequently due to coolant leakage and water absorption worldwide. Such serious accidents may cause not only enormous economic loss but also very serious grid accidents in terms of stable supply of electric power. More than 50 % of domestic generators have been operated for more than 15 years, and leak and water absorption problem of windings are often found during the planned preventive maintenance period. Since 2005, leak and water absorption tests have been performed for total watercooled stator windings after fully drying the inside of the windings. The results are then comprehensively analyzed. The result of the test performed by GE, a foreign manufacturer, for 141 generators showed failures in 80 of them (failure rate: 57 %), whereas in the tests carried out in Korean domestic power plants, only 14 out of 50 generators showed failures (failure rate: 28 %).

  • Guillain-Barre Syndrome is a disorder caused by nerve inflammation. The inflammation damages portions of the nerve cells, resulting in pain, numbness, muscle weakness or paralysis and sensory loss. The damage can also leads to denervation (killing the axon part of the nerve cell), which stops nerve function entirely. Without the axon, messages cannot be transferred from one nerve cell to another, but the causes and mechanism of this syndrome are unknown. This is a clinical report about two patients diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome. The patients, a 54-year-old woman and a 37-years-old man, had pain, and weakness in both legs and arms. After about 4 weeks of Korean medicine and acupuncture treatment, most of their symptoms improved. Therefore, Korean traditional therapy has potential for treatment of Guillain-Barre Syndrome.

  • Most athletes with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) ruptures undergo a surgical ACL reconstruction (ACLR) and rehabilitation. On the other hand, controversy still exists because neither a reconstruction nor rehabilitation have been proven to be superior in the management of ACL injury. This study reviewed the success rates of interventions to provide recommendations for the optimal management after an ACL injury. One of the most important considerations after an ACL injury is the timing and type of intervention. At the early stages, which involve the loss of volume and strength of quadriceps femoral muscle, weight bearing (closed kinetic chain) exercises with pain management followed by high velocity resistance exercises in an open kinetic chain environment are recommended to improve the quadriceps function. After that, it is important to apply intensive isokinetic exercise with a lower extension rate. In this case, it is important to apply overload to the muscles and to simultaneously lead the co-contraction of the hamstrings. Standards are essential because the timing and type of interventions are crucial to prevent re-injury and complications, such as osteoarthritis, as well as to confirm the successful outcome of the treatment. Different interventions recommended for ACL damage have yet to reach consensus. Further studies will be needed to observe the effects of the intervention through multidisciplinary approaches.

  • This paper presents a mode transition method that applies frequency compensation technique of an LLC resonant converter for stable mode transition. LLC resonant converters used in various applications require high efficiency and high power density. However, because of circuit property, a wider voltage gain range equates to a greater circuit loss, so maintaining high efficiency at all voltage gain ranges is difficult. In this case, full bridge-half bridge mode transition method can be used, which maintains high efficiency even in a wide voltage gain range. However, this method causes damage to the circuit through overcurrent by the mode transition. This study analyzes the cause of the problem and proposes a mode transition method that applies frequency compensation technique to solve the problem. The proposed method verifies the stable transition through simulation analysis and experimental results.

  • Hydraulic concrete buildings in the northwest of China are often subject to the combined effects of low-temperature frost damage, during drying and wetting cycles, and salt erosion, so the study of concrete deterioration prediction is of major importance. The prediction model of the relative dynamic elastic modulus (RDEM) of four different kinds of modified concrete under the special environment in the northwest of China was established using Grey residual Markov theory. Based on the available test data, modified values of the dynamic elastic modulus were obtained based on the Grey GM(1,1) model and the residual GM(1,1) model, combined with the Markov sign correction, and the dynamic elastic modulus of concrete was predicted. The computational analysis showed that the maximum relative error of the corrected dynamic elastic modulus was significantly reduced, from 1.599% to 0.270% for the BS2 group. The analysis error showed that the model was more adjusted to the concrete mixed with fly ash and mineral powder, and its calculation error was significantly lower than that of the rest of the groups. The analysis of the data for each group proved that the model could predict the loss of dynamic elastic modulus of the deterioration of the concrete effectively, as well as the number of cycles when the concrete reached the damaged state.

  • In this study, a one-dimensional numerical model was constructed to propose a flood control plan linked with the dam and river basin for the flood events of the Seomjin River in 2020. The flood level reduction of the downstream river was tested based on a scenario operation of the Seomjingang Dam and was also analyzed when a storage pocket was newly constructed as one of the river basin measures. It was confirmed that Seomjingang Dam's flood control capacity would be increased if the flood limit level was drastically lowered from the current EL. 196.5 m to EL. 188.0 m. In addition, if the upper area of the (old) Geumgok Bridge (which suffered great damage due to the loss of the levee) is used as a storage pocket, it would be effective in preventing floods in the lower area of it. In the era of the climate crisis, more integrated flood management is needed and basic river management must be observed.

  • Ochratoxin A (OA) is a potent mycotoxin causing considerable health hazard and economic loss- e,i. OA is of concern as it is hepato-nephrotoxic, mutagenic, and carcinogenic to a great variety of animals. LDso of crude OA was 8.5 mgf kg.b.w., i.p. The clinical symptoms, mortalities and necropsy were recorded in rats injected with OA (LD5o, i.p.) during 10 days of daily treatment. Ginseng treatments (20 mg 1 kg. b.w., i.p.) : before, mixed with, or after OA dose, completely prevented the mortality in rats. OA-treated animals showed microcytic normochromic anaemia, lucocytosis, hypoproteinaemia and elevation of serum ALT, AST, AP, urea, and creatinine values. These findings were declined near the normal levels when ginseng injected with OA. OA (115 LDso) induced chromosomal aberrations (65.66%) compared to the control. When ginseng given 10 min before OA injection, chromosomal aberrations were reduced to be 31.66% compared to OA-treated animals. In conclusion: ginseng has a protective effect against ochratoxicosis, it has anti-genotoxic activity and it can repair the chromosomal damage induced by ochratoxin A. • Increased temperature caused by global warming has become a significant problem for the growth and production of crops. A high temperature has a direct or an indirect effect on crops, leading to a significant yield loss. The damage of a high temperature stress to rice depends on its developmental stage. In present study, we performed evaluate the heading date in different location, Yeoju and Miryang, during growth of Korean rice core set. The heading date for the 223 rice accession were evaluated in Yeoju City (37°23' 127°57') and Miryang City (35°50', 128°72') located on middle and southern part of Korea, respectively. The average temperature of a day was higher in Miryang during entire growth stage. Here, total 222 KRICE-Core set was analyzed by GWAS for the high temperature effect. GWAS results revealed the Chr07_26954556, a lead SNPs were significantly associated with delaying heading date of KRICE-Core set. Significance threshold was set with 6.0 > -log10(P), and Cross-Validation (CV) error suggested an optimal K value of 5 for the population based on the lowest cross-validation error K = 5.

  • The Fukushima accident showed that the safety of multiple nuclear power plants (NPPs) at the same site could be jeopardized simultaneously. Since then, many studies have focused on developing strategies to prevent the spread of multi-unit accidents, with numerous countries establishing strategies to use mobile equipment. However, mobile equipment strategies are inherently accompanied by a high degree of uncertainty regarding operation success and duration because multiple organizations and personnel interact in various ways during multi-unit accident situations. Furthermore, supplementing current fixed equipment with additional mobile equipment requires extra resources. Therefore, cross-tie strategies that use currently installed fixed equipment can provide additional means to manage site risk with relatively few additional costs. This study proposes a multi-unit probabilistic safety assessment-based risk evaluation framework for utilizing cross-tie systems in NPPs and a modeling methodology to quantify the effectiveness of the cross-tie strategies. A case study was conducted to evaluate the risk reduction from using cross-tie strategies for emergency diesel generators and alternate AC diesel generators, which are power systems utilized in multi-unit loss of offsite power initiating events. It is expected that the developed framework and methodology can be utilized for other types of cross-tie strategies as well.
