In recent years, 'technological fusion or convergence' has drawn a lot of attention of innovation researchers and governmental policy makers as the driving force of technological innovation and industrial growth. There are, however, few studies on the analysis of longitudinal trends of technological convergence and its comparison between global and national level. In this study, with the citation data of about 18 million articles, we analyzed 1) the growth of representative convergence research areas, 2) the convergence of citing patterns between research fields, and 3) the changing trend of diversity index of all research fields. We conclude that technological convergence in korea shows the relatively strong orientation to the combination of neighboring fields than that of heterogenous fields in comparison to global trend. In particular, the relatively weak activity of cognitive science and the low level of mutual exchange between arts/humanities/social sciences and natural/engineering sciences in Korea are emphasized.
PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to study the noise reducing effect of Micro Surfacing by comparing general asphalt, longitudinal tining and Slurry Seal. METHODS : This study measures vehicles' noise of each section by the NCPX method that can measure noise between the road surface and the tire at the field. Total sound pressure and sound pressure level by the 1/3 octave band frequency are calculated through the field data of each section. Total sound pressure level is compared by ANOVA test statistically. After ANOVA test, post-hoc test is conducted to know mean difference of surface type by Tukey. RESULTS : As the result of CPB analysis to confirm sound pressure levels by frequency, it was shown that sound pressure levels by frequency are totally similar except for those of frequency bands between 100Hz and 500Hz. The result of ANOVA test and post-hoc test, it was shown that sections of surface type have a difference. The result of Micro Surfacing was lower 2~5dB(A) than other surface type. CONCLUSIONS : It is found that the noise reduction performance of Micro Surfacing was better than other surface type.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate changes in health promoting life style and weight control behavior among nursing students during their two years of college, and to identify the relationship between the changes and their perceived health status. Methods: The subjects were 264 female students in a three-year nursing college in Seoul, Korea. Data was analyzed by paired t-test, Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and multiple logistic regression using SPSS ver.21. Results: Of the six sub-categories regarding health promoting life style, five except spiritual growth showed improvement after two years, but their perceived health status did not change significantly. The number of students who engaged in weight control behavior increased, but there was no change in the number of students who engaged both in weight control and in diet. The group which recorded high scores in perceived mental health status showed 1.2 times greater positive changes in health promoting lifestyle (OR=1.202, p=.023). Conclusion: The results showed although health promoting behavior changed positively throughout the nursing curriculum, physical activities were still low and few students used constructive methods to control their weight. Therefore, it is recommended that nursing colleges build specific programs into their curriculum to correct students' undesirable health promoting behavior.
This study was executed to find the applicability of press drying of tree disk by investigating the shrinkage and drying defect and to form appropriate model by comparing the actual moisture content(MC) and internal temperature in respect of drying time with calculated values based computer simulation to which was applied finite difference method. In press drying disk, heating period, constant drying rate period maintained plateau temperature at 100$^{\circ}C$ and falling drying rate period were significantly distinguished. Actual MC and internal temperature were analogous to those calculated at comparing points. Heat transfer model formed by Fourier's law using specific heat of moist wood and conduction coefficient considering fractional volume of each element of wood cell wall, bound water, free water and air showed applicability as basic data to developing heat expansion, shrinkage and drying stress during press drying. Also mass transfer model formed by Fick's diffusion law using water vapor diffusion coefficient showed applicability. Longitudinal shrinkage was developed by pressure of hot press and tangential shrinkage was restrained by hygrothermal recovery. The heart check, surface check and ring failure were occurred differently in species, but V-shaped crack didn't develop.
Objectives : According to Rowe and Kahn (1998), successful aging is the combination of a low probability of disease, high functioning, and active engagement with life. The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between active engagement with life and functioning among the community-dwelling elderly. Methods : Data were collected from Wave 2 of the Suwon Longitudinal Aging Study (SLAS), consisting of a sample of 645 persons aged 65 and older living in the community. A social activity checklist and social support inventory were used as measures of engagement with life, along with the Physical Functioning (PF) scale as a measure of functioning. The effects of social support and social activity on physical functioning, taking into account the covariates, were analyzed by hierarchical linear regression analysis. Results : Maintenance of social activity and social support were significantly associated with higher physical function, after adjusting for sociodemographic and health-related covariates. Social support appeared to be more prominent than social activity in predicting physical functioning. Conclusions : Social support and social activity are potentially modifiable factors associated with physical function in older persons. Studies examining the role social engagement may play in preventing disability are warranted.

Porphyra pulchella sp. nov. Ackland, West, Scott and Zuccarello was obtained at Mimosa Rock National Park, New South Wales; Westgate Bridge, Victoria, Australia; and Waihau Bay, North Island, New Zealand. It occurs mainly in mangrove habitats and is very small (± 1 mm) in field collections. In laboratory culture at 21 ± 2°C tiny blades (0.5-3.0 mm) reproduced exclusively by archeospores liberated from vegetative cells of the upper sector of the blades. The archeospores displayed amoeboid and gliding motility once discharged. At 14 ± 2°C the blades grew to 25 mm and produced longitudinal spermatangial streaks mixed with ‘phyllosporangial’ streaks. The discharged ‘phyllospores’ showed amoeboid motility and germinated forming asexual blades. A conchocelis phase with typical bangiophycidean pit connections was observed in blade cultures after 8-10 weeks at 14 ± 2°C. Conchocelis filaments produced conchosporangia and these released amoeboid conchospores that developed into archeosporangiate blades. Molecular data indicate that all 3 isolates are genetically identical.
This study investigated income elasticity of household health expenditures and differences by income level from 1998 through 2003. Data from Korean Labor and Income Panel Study was used for empirical analyses. To estimate the income effects on health expenditure, the two-part model was employed: a logistic regression for any health expenditure-first part-and a Ordinary Least Square regression for health expenditure conditional on any spending-second part. To estimate income elasticity, both health expenditure and income were log transformed in the second part. In addition, the random effects(RE) model was used for a longitudinal panel which was continuously followed from 1998 through 2003 to estimate income effects on health expenditures controlling for within and between unobservable household characteristics. Furthermore, difference in income effects on health expenditure across income level was investigated. Although income slightly increased odds of any health expenditure, there was not no table differences across income level. Income significantly increased health expenditures during study period(overall income elasticity: about 0.2) and the highest 20% income group presented higher income elasticity than the lowest 20% income group.
Objective : To develop a simple, reproducible model of disc degeneration in rabbits through percutaneous annular puncture and to confirm the degree of degeneration over time. Methods : Fifteen New Zealand white rabbits (4 to 5 months old and weighing approximately 3 to 3.5 kg each) underwent annular puncture of the L2-L3, L3-L4, and L4-L5 discs. Rabbits were sacrificed at 4, 8, or 20 weeks after puncture. For a longitudinal study to assess changes in disc height over time, serial X-rays were performed at 0, 2, 4, 8, and 20 weeks for rabbits in the 20-week group. Upon sacrifice, the whole spinal column and discs were extracted and analyzed with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), real time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction, and histological staining. Results : The X-rays showed a slow, progressive decrease in disc height over time. Significant disc space narrowing compared to preoperative disc height was observed during the time period (p<0.001). The MRI grade, aggrecan, and matrix metalloprotease-13 mRNA expression and hematoxylin and eosin/safranin O/anti-collagen II staining were consistently indicative of degeneration, supporting the results of the X-ray data. Conclusion : Percutaneous annular puncture resulted in slow, reproducible disc degeneration that was confirmed by radiology, biochemistry, and histology. This in vivo model can be used to study and evaluate the safety and efficacy of biologic treatments for degenerative disc disease.
In this work we have studied the spin-lattice relaxation of $^{19}$F spins in benzotrifluoride in our quest for a reliable method of discriminating the contribution due to dipolar relaxation mechanism from that due to spin-rotational mechanism for nuclear spins located on methyl or substituted methyl group in organic molecules. Over the temperature range of 248-268 K the decay of normalized longitudinal magnetization was found to be well described by a two parameter equation of the form R(t) = exp(-st){$\frac{5}{6}$exp(-s$_1$)+$\frac{1}{6}$} which was derived under the assumption that interactions in the A3 spin system are modulated randomly and predominantly by internal rotational motions of -CF_3$ top, and it was shown that the separation of contribution due to dipolar interactions from that due to spin-rotation interaction could be successfully achieved by least-square fitting of observed data to this equation. The results indicate that the spin-rotational contribution is overwhelmingly larger than that of dipolar origin over the given temperature range and becomes more deminating at higher temperature.
Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate cognitive ability in preschoolers born prematurely and to investigate related factors. Methods: A prospective, longitudinal study was conducted with 64 children at 5-6 years of corrected age (CA) (second follow-up) among 76 children who had been assessed at 2.0~3.5 years of CA (first follow-up) from a sample of 343 preterm infants born from 2008 to 2010. To evaluate each child's cognitive ability, during a home visit, we used the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children-II (KABC-II) at the second follow-up. To explore factors related to cognitive ability, we measured children's hemoglobin level at the second follow-up and used the data collected in our previous study, including the Bayley Scale of Infant Development-II (BSID-II) at the first follow-up. Results: The mean total KABC-II quotient was $117.0{\pm}14.4$. The 5-minute Apgar score (${\beta}=.29$, p=.006), hemoglobin level (${\beta}=.22$, p=.032), and the mental development index quotient of the BSID-II (${\beta}=.51$, p<.001) were statistically significant predictors of the KABC-II quotient in multiple linear regression analysis. Conclusion: The cognitive function of young children born prematurely was influenced by early neurodevelopment and factors reflecting their health status, such as anemia and a low 5-minute Apgar score.
