Advanced driving assist system can support safety of driver and passengers which may require vehicle dynamics states as well as road geometry. It is essential to have in real-time estimation of related variables and parameters. Among the road geometry parameters, road slope angle which can not be measured is essential parameter in pose estimation, adaptive cruise control and others on sag road. In this paper, Kalman filter based method for the estimation of the vehicle dynamics and road slope angle using a nonlinear vehicle model is proposed. It uses a combination of Kalman filter as Cascade Extended Kalman Filter. CEKF uses measured vehicle states such as yaw rate, longitudinal/lateral acceleration and velocity. Unknown vehicle parameters such as center of gravity and inertia are obtained by 2 D.O.F lateral model and experimentally. Simulation and Experimental tests conducted with commercialized vehicle dynamics model and real-car.

Precast concrete deck has many advantages comparing with the in-situ concrete deck, and has been successfully applied to replacement of the deteriorated decks and to the newly constructed highway bridges in domestic region. In order to apply the precast decks into the railway bridges, however, differences of the load characteristics between the highway and the railway should be properly taken into account including the train load, longitudinal force of the continuous welded rail, acceleration or braking force, temperature change and shrinkage. Proper level of the longitudinal prestress of the tendons that can ensure integrity of the transverse joints in the deck system is of a primary importance. To this aim, the longitudinal tensile stresses induced by the design loads are derived using three-dimensional finite element analyses for the frequently adopted PSC composite girder railway bridge. The effect of the temperature change is also investigated considering the design codes and theoretical equations in an in-depth manner. The estimated proper prestress level to counteract those tensile stresses is above 2.4 MPa, which is similar to the case of the highway bridges.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the distribution patterns of displacement and acceleration fields in a nonlinear soil ground based on the interaction of high-speed train, wheel, rail, and ground. For this purpose, a high-speed train in motion was modeled as the actual wheel, and the vertical contact of wheel and rail and the lateral contact, caused by meandering motion, were simulated; this simulation was based on the moving mass analysis. The soil ground part was given the nonlinear behavior of the upper ground part by using the modified the Drucker-Prager model, and the changes in displacement and acceleration were compared with the behavior of the elastic and inelastic grounds. Using this analysis, the displacement and acceleration ranges close to the actual ground behavior were addressed. Additionally, the von-Mises stress and equivalent plastic strain at the ground were examined. Further, the equivalent plastic and total volumetric strains at each failure surface were examined. The variation in stresses, such as vertical stress, transverse pressure, and longitudinal restraint pressure of wheel-rail contact, with the time history was investigated using moving mass. In the case of nonlinear ground model, the displacement difference obtained based on the train travel is not large when compared to that of the elastic ground model, while the acceleration is caused to generate a large decrease.

In a laser-plasma wakefield accelerator, the ponderomotive force of an ultrashort high intensity laser pulse excites a longitudinal wave or plasma bubble in a way similar to the excitation of a wake wave behind a boat as it propagates on the water surface. Electric fields inside the plasma bubble can be several orders of magnitude higher than those available in conventional RF-based particle accelerator facilities which are limited by material breakdown. Therefore, if an electron bunch is properly phase-locked with the bubble's acceleration field, it can gain relativistic energies within an extremely short distance. Here, in the bubble regime we show the generation of stable and reproducible sub GeV, and GeV-class electron beams. Supported by three-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations, our experimental results show the highest acceleration gradients produced so far. Simulations suggested that the plasma bubble elongation should be minimized in order to achieve higher electron beam energies.
Lane tracking and obstacle avoidance are considered two of the key technologies on an unmanned ground vehicle system. In this paper, we propose a method of lane tracking and obstacle avoidance, which can be expressed as vehicle control, modeling, and sensor experiments. First, obstacle avoidance consists of two parts: a longitudinal control system for acceleration and deceleration and a lateral control system for steering control. Each system is used for unmanned ground vehicle control, which notes the vehicle's location, recognizes obstacles surrounding it, and makes a decision how fast to proceed according to circumstances. During the operation, the control strategy of the vehicle can detect obstacle and perform obstacle avoidance on the road, which involves vehicle velocity. Second, we explain a method of lane tracking by means of a vision system, which consists of two parts: First, vehicle control is included in the road model through lateral and longitudinal control. Second, the image processing method deals with the lane tracking method, the image processing algorithm, and the filtering method. Finally, in this paper, we propose a method for vehicle control, modeling, lane tracking, and obstacle avoidance, which are confirmed through vehicles tests.

In today's design trend of vehicle structure, crush zone is fiequently reinforced by adding a box-shaped sub-frame in order to avoid an excessive deformation against a high-speed offset barrier such as EU Directive 96/97 EC, IIHS offset test. That kind of vehicle structure design results in a relatively monotonic crash pulse for airbag ECU(Electronic Control Unit) located at non-crush zone. As for an angular crash event, the measured crash signal using a single-axis accelerometer in a longitudinal direction is usually weaker than that of frontal barrier crash. Therefore, it is not so easy task to achieve a satisfactory crash discrimination performance for offset and angular crash events. In this paper, we introduce a new crash discrimination algorithm using an electronic X-Y 2-axis accelerometer in order to improve crash discrimination performance especially for those crash events. The proposed method uses a crash signal in lateral direction(Y-axis) as well as in longitudinal direction(X-axis). A crash severity measure obtained from Y-axis acceleration is used to improve the discrimination between fire and no-fire events. The result obtained by the proposed measure is logically ORed with an existing algorithm block using X-axis crash signal. Simulation and pulse injection test have been conducted to verify the performance of proposed algorithm by using real crash data of a 2,000cc passenger vehicle.
To find the influence of incident angle of wave on the moment of 3 storied steel moment resisting frame which is placed on the concrete rectangular pontoon, the fluid dynamic analysis is carried out, varying the period of wave from 5 to 15 second by 2 seconds. As increasing incident angle of wave to longitudinal axis, the influence of RAO-rolling is increased. The moment of longitudinal frame is increased apparently by the wave pressure when the incident angle is $0^{\circ}$. And the moment of the frame due to the wave pressure is decreased as the incident angle is increased. But the moment of frame due to acceleration caused from pitching and rolling is increased. It is shown that the increased moment when incident angle is $90^{\circ}$ is much greater than that of incident angle $0^{\circ}$.

This paper studies experimentally on the building-up process for the amplitude of a commercial truck vibration induced by brake judder. A front axle drum equipped with a drum brake system is utilized for this experiment. A brake dynamo test, a real vehicle ride test and a real vehicle braking test are performed for the analysis of brake judder. The brake dynamo test measures judder by applying brake chamber pressures of 1, 2 and 3 bar at initial brake pad temperatures of $100^{\circ}C$ and $150^{\circ}C$. In order to assess the vertical acceleration at the front axle, the real vehicle ride test on a straight test road with velocities of 20, 40, 60 and 80 km/h is performed. The real vehicle braking test is carried out at the deceleration rate of 0.2g from a velocity of 90km/h for evaluating the vertical, lateral and longitudinal accelerations both at the front axle and at the cab floor under the driver's seat. The magnitudes and frequencies of the measured peak accelerations from the brake dynamo test, the real vehicle ride test and the real vehicle braking test are comparatively analyzed. This paper shows that the vibration produced by brake judder is built up due to the brake system's peak acceleration frequency being close to the vehicle ride mode's frequency.

This work presents a vulnerability assessment procedure for a complex structure using vibration characteristics. The structural behavior of a three-dimensional framed structure subjected to impact forces was predicted using the spectral element method. The Timoshenko beam function was applied to simulate the impact wave propagations induced by a high-velocity projectile at relatively high frequencies. The interactions at the joints were analyzed for both flexural and longitudinal wave propagations. Simulations of the impact energy transfer through the entire structure were performed using the transient displacement and acceleration responses obtained from the frequency analysis. The kill probabilities of the crucial components for an operating system were calculated as a function of the predicted acceleration amplitudes according to the acceptable vibration levels. Following the proposed vulnerability assessment procedure, the vulnerable positions of a three-dimensional combat vehicle with high possibilities of damage generation of components by impact loading were identified from the estimated vibration responses.

The paper presented here covers the work associated with the flight control law design, ground based and in flight simulation and handling qualities assessment of the Fly-by-Wire type Aircraft (FBWA). The FBWA configurations are of the same generic form of the Korean advanced trainer. The normal acceleration (Nz) and pitch rate (q) feedback control system is employed for longitudinal axis and roll rate (p) and lateral acceleration (Ny) feedback flight control law is developed in lateral/ directional axis. The flight tests for the FBW A dynamics evaluation were executed for the target aircraft (FBWA) on the IFS (In-Flight-Simulator) aircraft . The test results showed that Level 1 handling qualities for the most unstable flight regime and Level 1/2 for the landing approach flight regime were achieved. And the designed FBWA flight control law has revealed acceptable CHR (Cooper-Harper handling qualities Ratings).
