  • Wireless power transmission (WPT) is useful technology in near future. There are some kinds of the WPT technologies, WPT via radio waves, resonance coupling, and inductive. Especially the WPT via radio waves is used for multi-purposes from short range to long range application. However, unfortunately it is misunderstood that it is low efficiency and low power. In this paper, I show the theory of beam efficiency between transmitting antennas and receiving antennas and also show some high efficient applications of the WPT via radio waves. Especially, I pick up a wireless power charging system of an electric vehicle and show the experimental results. I show difference between the theory of beam efficiency and the experimental results of short range WPT. I indicate that reasons of poor beam efficiency in the experiment are (1) change of impedance caused by mutual coupling between transmitting antennas and receiving antennas, (2) oblique direction of microwave power to receiving antennas caused by short distance.

  • In current IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN, every unicast transmission requires an ACK from the receiver for reliability, though it consumes energy and bandwidth. There have been studies to remove or reduce ACK overhead, especially for energy efficiency. However none of them are practically used now. This paper introduces a noble method of selective unacknowledged transmission, where skipping an ACK is dynamically decided frame by frame. Utilizing the fact that a multicast frame is transmitted without accompanying an ACK in 802.11, the basic unacknowledged transmission is achieved simply by transforming the destination address of a frame to a multicast address. Since removing ACK is inherently more efficient but less strict, its practical profit is dependent on traffic characteristics of a frame as well as network error conditions. To figure out the selective conditions, energy and performance implications of unacknowledged transmission have been explored. Extensive experiments show that energy consumption is almost always reduced, but performance may be dropped especially when TCP exchanges long data with a long distance node through a poor wireless link. An experiment with a well-known traffic model shows that selective unacknowledged transmission gives energy saving with comparable performance.

  • In this paper, we have studied the devices needed for long distance wireless transmission of SDH network. This devices propose wireless transmission and measurement method of STM-1(basic transmission unit of SDH method) signal and 200Mbps synchronous ethernet. The synchronous clock recovery function is provided for STM-N transmission and synchronous ethernet transmission, and spare clock switching function is designed for stable synchronization. In addition, we discussed the measurement method of STM-N and synchronous Etherent communication method in wireless transmission section.

  • In this paper, we propose a transmission scheme to reduce energy consumption on wireless multi-channel sensor networks. This proposed scheme differentiates the number of usable channels based on a priority. Sensor nodes consume the most energy to transmit data. Also, as transmission distance is far, they consume the more energy. Therefore retransmission due to transmission failure of sensor nodes that are long transmission distance is required more energy consumption. In this paper, we provide a stable transmission environment by allocating a high priority for data that is sent far away. The received data with a high priority is more allocated the number of usable channels. In the experiment results, the receiving failure probability and the restransmission energy consumption of proposed scheme is superior to ones of comparison scheme.

  • fireless LAN can offer high data rate communication between wireless terminals. In IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN, a basic service unit is called a Basic Service Set (BSS), which consists of one AP and more than one wireless terminals. Terminals far from the AP may not communicate with high data rate because signal strength is weakened as they move away from the AP. In this paper we propose a method to permit high speed data transmission by grouping terminals and by using part of wireless terminals as repeaters. We analyze the proposed and algorithm via simulations. Our proposed grouping mechanism is shown to be an effective way to increase the distance for high rate transmission.

  • Wireless power transmission (WPT) is a technology using free space as a conductor for transmitting electric power, which aims to transfer not just the transmission signal but also the electrical energy itself. This paper takes issue with the microwave wireless transmission technology utilizing in long-distance transmission. To construct the WPT system, several components are needed, such as RF Oscillator which converts AC power to RF through DC status, high gain antenna and RF rectifier that converts RF back to DC. The array topology is good a candidate for wide use. The objective of this research is to study the efect of the WPT systmem on electric power system.

  • In this paper, we proposed the DS-SS modem-based communication system for long distance wireless-transmission. The module we designed in this approach contained both convolution encoder and gold-code generator, which aimed at error correcting, T-DES encryption algorithm and spread-spectrum as well. It embodied PC-based GUI program in order to control the such command signal as data transceiver. This program also used to control the specific FPGA/MCU which is able to verify and interface to the modem. We demonstrated the communication system to verify its proper operation by using GUI program and designed hardware. A set of experiments are conducted and as a result, proposed communication system is well operated as the design specification.

  • Wireless power transmission (WPT) for wireless charging is currently attracting much attention as a promising approach to miniaturize batteries and increase the maximum total range of an electric vehicle. The main advantage of the laser power beam (LPB) approach is its high power transmission efficiency (PTE) over long distance. In this paper, we present the design of a laser power beam based WPT system, which has a best WPT channel selection technique at the receiver end when multiple power transmitters and single power receiver are operated simultaneously. The transmitters send their transmission channel information via optically modulated laser pulses. The receiver uses the received signal strength indicator and digitized data to choose an optimum power transmission path. We modeled a vertical multi-junction photovoltaic cell array, and conducted an experiment and simulation to test the feasibility of this system. From the experimental result, the standard deviation between the mathematical model and the measured values of normalized energy distribution is 0.0052. The error between the mathematical model and measured values are acceptable, thus the validity of the model is verified.
