LEAK-BEFORE-BREAK ANALYSIS OF THERMALLY AGED NUCLEAR PIPE UNDER DIFFERENT BENDING MOMENTS

  • Cast duplex stainless steels are susceptible to thermal aging during long-term service at temperatures ranging from $280^{\circ}C$ to $450^{\circ}C$. To analyze the effect of thermal aging on leak-before-break (LBB) behavior, three-dimensional finite element analysis models were built for circumferentially cracked pipes. Based on the elasticeplastic fracture mechanics theory, the detectable leakage crack length calculation and J-integral stability assessment diagram approach were carried out under different bending moments. The LBB curves and LBB assessment diagrams for unaged and thermally aged pipes were constructed. The results show that the detectable leakage crack length for thermally aged pipes increases with increasing bending moments, whereas the critical crack length decreases. The ligament instability line and critical crack length line for thermally aged pipes move downward and to the left, respectively, and unsafe LBB assessment results will be produced if thermal aging is not considered. If the applied bending moment is increased, the degree of safety decreases in the LBB assessment.

HTPB계 고체추진제의 자연노화 물성 분석 (Natural Aging Properties Analysis of HTPB Propellant)

  • 고체 추진기관의 HTPB 추진제는 저장소에서 저장소 환경에 따라 물리적, 화학적 노화가 진행된다. 추진기관 수명은 HTPB 추진제의 노화도에 의해 결정되며, 생산 초기에 점탄성 특성 및 노화 시험을 통해 예측된다. 본 논문에서는 생산 초기 물성 및 가속노화 시험을 통해 획득한 노화 물성과 장기 저장되어 자연 노화된 물성을 비교 분석하였다. 획득된 초기 및 노화물성 결과를 적용하여 중공형 그레인의 온도 하중에 의한 변형율을 분석하였다.

  • Today, restricted energy sources, environmental considerations and the high cost of transporting fuel have limited the number and location of available power plant sites. The pressures resulting from these conditions have tended to require the construction of long, high-capacity, high-voltage power lines. it's used to adapt to STACIR/AW(Super Thermal-resistant Aluminum alloy Conductors, aluminum-clad Invar-Reinforced) conductor for coping with these situations. STACIR/AW conductor was formed by the combination of INVAR/AW as the core for low sag and super thermal-resistant aluminum alloy conductor for current capacity increase. increase of temperature by current capacity and long span lines make the susceptible to the deterioration of thermo-mechanical properties(conductivity, tensile strength, E-modulus and twist property et al). In the present work, changes of thermo-mechanical properties with aging have been studied in STACIR/AW $410 mm^2$ conductor with forms of single wire and strand wire.

주사음향현미경을 이용한 코발트기 초내열합금 미세조직에 관한 장시간 열영향에 대한 비파괴평가 (Nondestructive Evaluation for Long-term Heat Treatment Effects on Microstructure of Co-base Superalloy by Scanning Acoustic Microscope)

  • The aim of this study investigates the feasibility of scanning acoustic microscope (SAM) with high frequency transducer for material degradation. The test specimen was prepared by artificial heat treatment of Co-base superalloy. The high frequency 200 MHz acoustic lens was used to generate the leaky surface acoustic wave (LSAW) on the test specimens. The matrix precipitates coarsened with thermal aging time, and then grow up to several tens of micrometers. The velocity of LSAW decreased with increasing aging time. Also, it has a good correlation between LSAW and hardness. Consequently, V(z) curve methods of SAM using high frequency transducer is useful tool to evaluate the heat treatment effects on microstructure.

Lifetime prediction for interfacial adhesion of Carbon/Cork composites with an accelerated aging test

  • In the aerospace field, Carbon/Cork composites have been used for rocket propulsion systems as a light weight structural component with a high bending stiffness and high thermal insulation properties. For the fabrication of a carbon composite with a heat insulation cork part, the bonding properties between them are very important to determine the service life of the Carbon/Cork composite structure. In this study, the changes in the interfacial adhesion and mechanical properties of Carbon/Cork composites under accelerated aging conditions were investigated. The accelerated aging experiments were performed with different temperatures and humidity conditions. The properties of the aged Carbon/Cork composites were evaluated mainly with the interfacial strength. Finally, the lifetime prediction of the Carbon/Cork composites was performed with the long-term property data under accelerated conditions.

기능성 엘라스토머를 이용한 선형 폴리페닐렌 설파이드의 개질 및 그 특성 (Modification of Linear Polyphenylene Sulfide with Functional Elastomers and Its Properties)

  • 장기내열성과 파단신율이 우수한 블렌드 수지를 개발하고자 polyphenylene sulfide(PPS)에 7종류의 elastomer를 용융혼합하여 그 가능성을 조사해 보았다. PPS/elastomer(90/10, 80/20, 70/30) 블렌드를 제조한 후 시험편을 압축성형 또는 sheet를 제조하여 capillary rheometer, UTM, impact tester, SEM 등으로 유변학적 거동, 기계적 특성 및 모폴로지를 측정하였고 오븐에서 일주일간 열을 가한 후 다시 기계적 특성을 측정하였다. 열을 가하기 전의 인장강도는 elastomer 종류에 관계없이 비슷하였고 파단신율은 m-EVA의 경우가 가장 큰 값을 보였다. Elastomer 첨가량을 증가시킴에 따라 신율이 증가하였는데 30 wt%정도 첨가 시 박리가 발생하였다. 오븐테스트 이후에는 인장 강도는 더 증가한 반면에 신율은 급격히 감소하였다. 상기의 elastomer들이 PPS와 부분적인 상용성이 있는 것으로 보이는 바 소량의 elastomer 첨가 만으로도 PPS 가공과 관련된 여러 문제 등을 해결할 수 있어 다양한 그레이드의 개발에 적극 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

열역학적 및 속도론적 분석을 통한 THPP의 노화 안정성 확인 (Confirmation of Long-term stability on THPP using thermodynamic and kinetic analysis)

  • 화약 기반 소자 (PMD)에서 장기간 보관을 하게 되면 소자 안에 있는 화약이 노화되어 폭발력에 변화가 생기기 때문에, 일정 기간이 지나면 폐기 처분을 하게 된다. 그렇기 때문에 PMD 안에 사용하는 화약은 자발적 혹은 외부적 요인에 대하여 화학적 및 물리적으로 안정해야 한다. 기존에 사용되는 화약으로서 $BKNO_3$과 THPP를 대표적으로 이용하기 때문에, 이 화약들을 기반으로 하여 열역학적 및 속도론적 분석을 실시하였다. Differential scanning calorimeter (DSC)를 이용하여 발열량과 반응속도를 분석하였는데, 그 결과 THPP에서는 열량 차이 및 반응속도에 큰 변화가 보이지 않았다. 추가적으로, 노화에 직접적으로 연관되는 산화막 형성을 확인하기 위하여 XPS 및 TEM-EDS 분석하였는데, 열적 분석 결과와 상응하는 결과로서 산화막이 관측 되지 않았다. 이는 THPP가 장기 안정성 측면에서 가장 유명한 화약이라고 판단 할 수 있다.

Study on the Causes of Premature Cracking of Epoxy Coatings for Ship's Ballast Tanks

  • Premature cracking of the epoxy coatings applied on ship's ballast tanks(BT) can lead to damage of ship's hulls. To avoid this, it's important to have clear understanding of the underlying mechanism and primary factors of the coating crack. In this study, the efforts were made to clarify the integrated effects of main factors, i.e., initial coating shrinkage, thermally induced strain, steel-structural strain and the intrinsic coating flexibility at the initial and after aging, to the early cracking phenomena of epoxy coating in the ship's ballast tank. The coating crack is caused by combination of thermal stress, structural stress, and internal stresses which is closely related to chemical structures of the coatings. On the other hand, thermal stresses and dimensional stabilities would rarely play a major role in coating crack for ballast tank coatings with rather large flexibility. Crack resistance of the coatings at early stages can be estimated roughly by measuring internal stress, FT-IR and $T_g$ value of the coatings. A new screening test method was also proposed in this study, which can be possibly related to the long-term resistance of epoxy-based paints to cracking.

  • Hygrothermal aging at the elevated temperature induces the long-term degradation of the epoxy resin. We investigated the effects of hydrothermal stress on the dielectric breakdown phenomena of epoxy composite filled with natural zeolite. The cured specimens absorbed the moisture in the autoclave at $120^{\circ}C$. $T_g$ of the deteriorated composite by moisture absorption decreased. The dielectric breakdown strength decreased with the moisture absorption cycle. It was concluded that the thermal stress and the high water-vapour-pressure deteriorated the natural zeolite filled epoxy resin system, consequently and the tree growth rate increased.

  • 연료전지 스택 작동환경에서의 열노화 특성을 살펴보기 위하여 다양한 고무 compound의 내열 및 압축 영구 줄음률의 평가를 실시하고, 스택의 장시간 운전을 통해 접합할 수 있는 대상액인 $H_2SO_4$, $H_2O$, LLC (Ethylene glycol : $H_2O=50:50$)에 대하여 장시간 평가를 실시하였다. NBR과 EPDM은 시간이 경과할수록 침적액의 변색하는 것을 알 수 있었으며, VMQ는 $H_2SO_4$ 분위기에서 시간에 따라 고무가 노화되는 것을 TGA, SEM, EDS 분석을 통하여 확인하였다.
