직접분사식 디젤기관에서 바이오디젤 연료의 연소특성(2) (Combustion Characteristics of Biodiesel Fuel as an Alternative Fuel for a D.I. Diesel Engine(2))

  • Recently, lots of researchers have been attracted to develop various alternative fuels in diesel engine. The use of biodiesel fuel(BDF) is an effective way of substituting diesel fuel in the long run. But biodiesel fuel can affect the performance and emissions in diesel engine because it has different chemical and physical properties from diesel fuel. In this study, to investigate the combustion characteristics of biodiesel fuel as an alternative fuel for D.I. diesel engine, experiments were carried out at the three-cylinder, four stroke D.I. diesel engine with T/C. As a result, shorter ignition delays were observed for the biodiesel blend cases relative to the diesel oil. The pick value of premixed combustion for the rate of heat release is increased with decreasing C.F.W. temperature.

  • Exhaust brake system for Diesel engines is composed of gate valve, pneumatic cylinder and exhaust brake valve with on-off solenoid. Exhaust brake valve which is core component of exhaust brake system should have characteristics such as high reliability and long life. In this paper. exhaust brake valve with on-off solenoid which is used for vehicle brake system was studied. For the performance evaluation of on-off solenoid, electromagnetic characteristics and dynamic characteristics are analyzed. As a basic study for the performance improvement of exhaust brake system, pneumatic circuit and pneumatic valve with on-off solenoid were suggested and the performance of the pneumatic valve was evaluated through tests.

  • Pullout test known as Lok test among the test methods to evaluate concrete strength strength is a test method which is used to decide the form removal time by assessing the early strength of concrete in a new construction, or to control the quality of newly placed concrete. This method has inconvenience to place inserts on the form work in advance, however, the placing work is quite simple and it has advantage that the strength can be measured at field as long as the inserts are placed. In this study, the first step is to investigate the properties of test method itself, by performing the laboratory test which covers deviation of the method and factors affecting the results, etc. The second step is to correlate the result with cylinder strength and other NDT methods such as rebound hammer, ultrasonic method, etc. And that, the results are compared with foreign results to find the differences between the two. In this research, new factors such as moisture content, area of aggregate failure cross section and area of aggregate separation cross section, etc as well as wate-cement ratio and age are investigated.

Long-Term Performance of High Strength Concrete

  • This paper describes an experimental investigation of how time-dependent deformations of high strength concretes are affected by maximum size of coarse aggregate, curing time, and relatively low sustained stress level. A set of high strength concrete mixes, mainly containing two different maximum sizes of coarse aggregate, have been used to investigate drying shrinkage and creep strain of high strength concrete for 7 and 28-day moist cured cylinder specimens. Based upon one-year experimental results, drying shrinkage of high strength concrete was significantly affected by the maximum size of coarse aggregate at early age, and become gradually decreased at late age. The larger the maximum size of coarse aggregate in high strength concrete shows the lower the creep strain. The prediction equations for drying shrinkage and creep coefficient were developed on the basis of the experimental results, and compared with existing prediction models.

  • The conventional PWM method, which was used in controlling the on-off valve, such as high-speed solenoid valve, was modulating the width of the pulse applied to the valve, by selecting arbitrary sampling time and modulating the duty-ratio in proportion to the error. However, in this method, a selection of long sampling time was inevitable and it was unable to get a high accuracy and a quick response. This study is for designing an appropriate controller for high-speed solenoid valve by proposing an improved duty-ratio modulation method using the Saw-toothed Carrier Wave which enables a short sampling time selection, high accuracy of control, and a quick response. Test which was carried out in the laboratory shows that transient and steady state response could be improved by PID controller.

  • A newly devised linear flexure bearing (KIMM-LFB) for reciprocating machines is disclosed having improved tight gas clearance maintaining capability for better system performance. KIMM-LFB is an integrated device comprising an axially moving diaphragm with circumferentially arranged arc-shaped flexure blades secured between rim and hub spacers, which turn out to have higher radial stiffness than the one with circumferential tangent cantilever flexure blades. It is expected for KIMM-LFB to play a key role in designing long life, special purpose reciprocating machines such as spacecraft borne cryogenic refrigerators (cryocoolers) by providing frictionless, non-wearing, linear movement and radial support for the machines as well as a gas clearance seal by maintaining extremely tight clearances between piston and cylinder.

피스톤 링 마찰 특성의 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on Frictional Characteristics of the Piston Ring)

  • A friction tester to measure friction force generated at the interface between the piston ring and the cylinder liner was developed. Modified piston ring is bar-shaped and 100mm long. Surface of the modified piston ring is machined by the profile grinding machine to be formed as a shape of an arc of a circle. Measured data are treated as mean effective friction force and power loss. From this test it can be confirmed that friction force is deeply affected by surface shape of the piston ring and viscosity of supplied oil. Friction force is deeply affected by surface shape of the piston ring and viscosity of supplied oil. Friction force is decreased and power loss is increased with increasing velocity. And it is known that region of mixed lubrication is broader than estimated with theoretical analysis. it is expected that this tester can be used as the optimization tool of the surface shape of the piston ring at the first stage of development of the piston rings.

Cycle-to-Cycle Fluctuations in a Spark Ignition Engine at Low Speed and Load

  • Cycle-to-cycle variation has long been recognized as limiting the range of operating conditions of spark ignition engines, in particular, under lean and highly diluted operation conditions. At a part load, some of the cycles tend to knock, while others may have incomplete combustion by the time the exhaust valve opens. An experimental study has been performed in order to evaluate the relative contribution of several relevant parameters on the cyclic variability in spark ignition engines. In general, the stability of engine operation is improved with fuel injector according to the optimal injection timing, but the stability of engine operation at idle is not improved compared with a practical gasoline engine. In this study, we investigated the relationship of the effect of operating conditions for the stability at low speed and load.

오리와 거위의 정자완성과 정자에 관한 전자현미경적 연구 (Electron-Microscopic Studies on the Spermiogenesis and the Spermatozoa of the Drake and the Gander)

  • Testes from the drake and the gander have been examined by the electron microscopy in thin sections in order to examine the spermiogenesis and the structure of spermatozoa. The spermiogenesis can be divided into three stages: early spermatid, nuclear elongation, and matured spermatid. In the early spermatid of the drake, there are thread-like material in the nucleus, a prominent nuclear envelope around the nucleus, and big lumens in the cytoplasm. The shape of the gander's mitochondria in the early spermatid is slender compared to that of the drake, and the inner membrane of the mitochondria is thicker than the outer membrane. The distal centriole of the drake and the gander in the early spermatid is a long hollow cylinder form. In the nuclear elongation stage, elongated nucleus forms two or three cross sections in one spermatid cell and it is surrounded by the amorphous sheath. The nucleus of the matured spermatid is compact and its apical end is covered with acrosome cap and acrosome spine. The axoneme is surrounded by the amorphous material.

  • This introduces a improved method of the forward kinematics analysis, which finds the 6DOF motions and velocities from the given six cylinder lengths in the Steward platform. The numerical method(Newton Raphson Mehotd)of the forward kinematics analysises has the disadvantage of the long calculated time. To overcome this, we propose the competitive method that determine a proper initial value. Through the competitive method, we can select a proper initial value so that the calculate time is reduced. therefore we can give the property of the real time process to the forward kinematics analysis. We show the result comparing between general Newton-Raphson method and proposed one. From the result we verify the performance of the proposed method.
