Long Reading Range Yagi-Uda UHF RFID Tag Antennas with Small Back-Lobe (후엽이 작은 장거리 인식용 Yagi-Uda UHF RFID 태그 안테나 설계)

  • Yagi-Uda UHF RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) tag antennas with long reading range have been designed. According to ISO-18000, EIRP(Effective Isotropic Radiation Power) of reader and reader antenna is limited as 36 dBm. Therefore, the gain of a tag antenna should be high enough to extend the reading range. Yagi-Uda antenna has been applied to a UHF RFID tag antenna, and high gain and long reading range have been achieved. Three different of Yagi-Uda UHF antennas have been optimized to achieve the small size with low back-lobe patterns. The sizes, reading ranges and return loss of Yagi-Uda tag antennas are compared and measured.

  • The present paper discusses the characteristics of unsteady aerodynamic forces on long-span curved roofs. A forced vibration test is carried out in a wind tunnel to investigate the effects of wind speed, vibration amplitude, reduced frequency of vibration and rise/span ratio of the roof on the unsteady aerodynamic forces. Because the range of parameters tested in the wind tunnel experiment is limited, a CFD simulation is also made for evaluating the characteristics of unsteady aerodynamic forces on the vibrating roof over a wider range of parameters. Special attention is paid to the effect of reduced frequency of vibration. Based on the results of the wind tunnel experiment and CFD simulation, the influence of the unsteady aerodynamic forces on the dynamic response of a full-scale long-span curved roof is investigated on the basis of the spectral analysis.

A Study on the Long-Wave Effective Floating Breakwater I: On Trapezoid and Prominence Cross Section (장주기파에 효율적인 부유식방파제에 대한 연구 I: 사다리꼴과 요철 단면형상에 대하여)

  • In this paper, trapezoid sections and prominence sections were examined to improve the performance of floating breakwater in long waves. The linear potential theory is used and the boundary element method with a matching boundary is employed for numerical computation. The effects of the side slope of the trapezoid section and the geometry ratio of the prominence section on the floating breakwater were examined. It was found that trapezoid sections show lower transmission coefficients than the rectangular sections in the long wave range. In prominence sections the size of the sides are more important than the size of the top. Proper choices of the pontoon type geometry may move the local minimum point of the wave transmission coefficient toward the longer wave ranges and improve the performance of the floating breakwater in the long wave range for a given wave period.

  • RFID technologies, which allow collecting, storing, processing, and tracking information by wirelessly recognizing the inherent ID of object through an attached electronic tag, have a variety of application areas. One of the important parameters in designing such RFID systems is the read range within which the system recognizes the electronic tag. We present a novel method of designing an RFID tag required for long read range of RFID systems. The tag designed by the proposed method is battery-assisted to increase its forward-link read range and simultaneously, has backscattering modulation amplified to increase its reverse-link read range. We experimentally confirm that the minimum threshold power of the tag is - 23 dBm and the backscattering modulation gain is 28 dB, which is consistent with our simulation results. We also verify that the tag in this paper improves more than 2 times in terms of the read range compared to the existing commercial tags.

  • An optimal cooling method for a long HTS power transmission cable was scrutinized by using theoretical models. Cooling length of HTS cable is determined by pressure range and temperature range of LN2 in the HTS cable. Results showed limitation from temperature range is stricter than that from pressure range. The well-known one-side cooling was modified to two-side cooling. It was shown that cooling length can be nearly doubled by adopting two-side cooling of the same capacity.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new ultrasonic distance measurement system with high accuracy and long range. To improve accuracy and enlarge range, the time of flight of ultrasonic is calculated by the period detecting method. In the proposed ultrasonic distance measurement system, the ultrasonic transmitter and receiver are separated but synchronized by RF(Radio frequency) module. The experiment has been implemented from short distance 1m to maximum available distance 30m. And the period detecting method is compared with the conventional threshold level method. Experimental results show the accuracy and range of the distance measurement are improved by this period detecting method.

  • An analytic expression for the intensity of collision-induced light scattering obstained by introducing both short-range and long-range effects on the induced anisotropy. By taking argon as a specific example, it is shown that a narrow band at small frequency shifts is caused by long-range effects, while a broad band in the far wing of the spectrum is due to short-range effects. The overall intensity is a synthesis of these two bands and does not follow a simple exponential form. As temperature increases, the intensity at large frequency shifts increases makedly, while at small frequency shifts it changes little.

  • The $^1H- and^{13}C-NMR$ spectra of alaternin, aurantio-obtusin, chryso-obtusin, obtusin and 2-glucosyl obtusifolin isolated from the seeds of Cassia tora have been assigned based on HMBC, long-range HETCOR, fully $^1H-coupled {13}^C-NMR$, deuterium isotope experiment, and by comparison with the model compounds.

  • In this paper, we apply AHP method to select long range technology alternative for KEPCO. The input data was gathered by the questionnaire surveys answered by experts. The effectiveness and validity of the method were tested by comparing the results with those of the current selection procedure. We show that the proposed method can outperform the current method and can applied to the real decision making process of the electric power company.
