  • This study focuses on affording a material basis for rearranging the manpower supply system in port and logistics industry for Busan's international competitiveness strategies. First of all, the current state and future plan of port and logistics industry, as Busan's main strategic industry, are reviewed. Then theoretical background are introduced for the estimate of demand. As a methodology of this research, Cubic model is applied to estimate the demand of manpower by using 10 year time series data from 1993 to 2002. This paper also surveyed the supply side of port and logistics industry manpower in Busan area. The amounts of mismatched equilibrium between the demand and the supply are measured in this study. The concluding remarks shows some suggestions for the problem of mismatch and the relating policy planning.

  • In this paper, we present a dynamic matching methodology for the logistics brokerage agent that intermediates empty vehicles and freights registered to the logistics e-marketplace by car owners and shippers. In this matching methodology, two types of decisions should be made: one is when to match freights and vehicles and the other is how to match freights and vehicles at that time. We propose three strategies for deciding when to match, ie. real time matching (RTM) , periodic matching (PM), and fixed matching (FM) and use Hungarian method for solving the how-to-match problem. In order to compare the performance of the when-to-match strategies, computational experiments are done and the results show that the waiting-and-matching strategies, PM and FM, give better performance than real time matching strategy, RTM. We can expect that the suggested matching methodology may be used as an efficient and effective tool for the brokerage agent in the logistics e-marketplaces.

  • Global firms are seeking to implement their global logistics strategies in two ways: the use of centralized inventories and/or postponement of final assembly. These strategies stress the importance of regional logistics centers. In most cases, regional logistics centers are located in or near ports so that changing demands can be met with economy, reliability and flexibility, The port can profit not only from the activities of logistics center itself, but also the increasing flow of cargo through the logistics center. A number of ports respond to this trend by shifting their emphasis from traditional cargo-handling services to value-added services. This paper presents guidelines drawn from the best practices of ports to be successful logistics centers to provide many aspects of value-added logistics services. These include: Effective Planning and Development of Logistics Centers; Institutional Incentive Scheme; Development of Free Trade Zones; Financing Infrastructure related to Logistics Centers; Developing Logistics Service Providers and Logistics Professionals; Development of Information Technology; and Regulatory and Administrative Issues. These guidelines will help managers of ports and policy makers of governments in the East Asian region learn to recognize, analyze and adopt the best practices for use.

  • Purpose : Due to the uncertainty of the global trade environment and the trade downturn, the shipping industry continues to face challenges. This study aims to investigate in-depth analysis of crisis overcoming strategies through case study of a company that is leader in the shipping and logistics industry. Research Desigh and Methodology : In order to conduct an in-depth analysis, a single case analysis was selected as a qualitative study. For this purpose, various secondary sources were used, and indirect interview data were also used. In this study, Maersk was selected because it has grown from a traditional shipping logistics company to a digital platform company. Results: Maersk has transformed itself into a comprehensive, digital logistics platform with several key strategies to respond to the long-term slump in the shipping industry. First, it leveraged Maersk's diversification and portfolio optimization strategy. Second, Maersk is transforming its logistics and transport processes through digitalization and technological innovation. Conclusion: Maersk, which is responding to the long-term recession facing the shipping industry, looked at how it has leveraged its strengths and explored new opportunities through a number of strategies and changes. This study provides insight into a digital logistics platform that will benefit the other companies as well.

  • The higher costs of logistics in Korea than those of other developed countries have been considered as a main factor to reduce national competitiveness. In addition, the international logistics has become more important than before as trade across countries have increased with globalization. This study measured the rate of international logistics absorption as total trade volume compared total domestic consumption expenditure. The measure showed that USA($26\%$), japan($31\%$), and China($l12\%$) are important countries for Korea to cooperate for the international logistics and its standardization. However, for these countries, Korea is not important country in terms of the international logistics because the absorption rates of these countries to Korea are relatively very low as they shows $0.8\%$, $8\%$, $1.85\%$ in USA, China, and japan, respectively. Thus, we need international strategies in logistics fields to cooperate with these countries.

  • This study comprehensively reviews the research conducted until recently in order to derive realistic alternatives in consideration of local industries. The case analysis was performed on a competitive port of similar size, and strategies and revitalization measures were suggested in consideration of the conditions of Gunsan Port. Literature review focused on papers and major reports. The case of similar size were analyzed for Daesan port, Boryeong port, and Mokpo port. In order to find strategies to revitalize the regional port logistics industry behind Gunsan Port, the recent opportunities and threat factors of Gunsan Port were derived. In order to foster the regional port logistics industry with Gunsan Port as its main base, this study proposes a three-step development strategy. It is necessary to increase the effectiveness of the public-private joint port sales and maintain the incentive system, but use it as a means to strengthen the competitiveness of Gunsan Port. Since the possibility of opening various routes is not high due to the conditions of Gunsan Port, various business models can be devised to link the currently opened routes. Start-up in the logistics field can stand out if they provide predictive data or provide consulting services by securing and analyzing logistics data, not directly providing logistics services.

  • Cloud computing(cloud) is a good candidate for complementing weaknesses of logistics information systems(heterogeneous processes not able to be standardized, geographically scattered and seamed connectivity, etc.) and for supporting innovative activities of logistics. In this sense, we aimed to study deployment strategies of clouds specified in the logistics industry. To achieve our research goal, we reviewed up-to-date logistics clouds researches and analysis of clouds; platforms and deployment strategies for logistics. This study contributes to follow-up researches for establishing a development direction of logistics specific clouds and developing more concrete clouds for logistics.
