  • This paper develops an analytic model for minimizing the cost of distributing items by truck from one supplier to many customers under Milk run logistics strategy. The model derives formulas for not only inventory and transportation costs but also costs associated with carbon emission trading scheme. In addition, monetary investment for reducing carbon emissions is considered. We analyze how to determine optimal shipment size and carbon emission reduction investment. The purpose of this work is to evaluate the effects of carbon emission trading scheme on the Milk run logistics strategy in terms of how much to reduce carbon emissions and/or inventory and transportation costs. We analytically show that it is possible to reduce carbon emissions while reducing inventory and transportation costs by introducing cap-and-trade carbon emission trading scheme under certain conditions.

Design/Methodology/Approach: Quantitative research was conducted and data was collected by sending questionnaires to 188 accountants and directors from Vietnamese Logistics Enterprises (including, transportation, warehousing and forwarding). 5 factors (namely: size and organizational structure, technological advancement, and strategic management accounting implementing costs) were selected to measure the application of strategic management accounting (SMA) in Vietnamese Logistics Enterprises (LEs) through correlation and regression analysis. Results: The empirical findings show that there exists a significant association between these factors and the SMA application. LEs have strongly supported the application of SMA as a tool to provide information for making their strategic decisions. The factors including size and organizational structure, technological advancement, SMA implementing c osts, and strategy positively impact the SMA application in both financial and non-financial aspects. This finding helps the adm inistrators realize the importance of SMA. Conclusions: This study provided an overview of SMA application and its benefits to enterprises. It helps managers have a better understanding of SMA and future directions for application. Moreover, the research results will be useful for managers to identify factors influencing their SMA practices and improve the current management process applied in organizations.

  • This paper discusses the strategies for the future qf the Hong Kong Port and Buasn Port. We assess whether they prepare the ports for the position of being the logistics hub, and as such could assist the ports to maintain their position in the world's container port. We reviewed both the current situation qf the Hong Kong Port and the strategy of the port for the future (Master Plan 2020) to keep the status of logistics hub. With the case study on the Port of Hong Kong, this study attempts to examine what the strategic planning is needed for the Busan Port. We debate the Port of Busan could be seen as a logistics chain for the future. In our discussion, the strategic planning on "Port Vision 2020" for Port of Busan does not address the issues regarding this part, nor does it make any recommendations in terms of the requirement of the logistics private sector.
