  • In most recent years, the business competition has spreads over all fields of corporations and their management area regardless of time and place, which makes the survival environment of each enterprise fiercer. In order to secure a high position in the competitive market, the various firms has implemented many methods related to price, quality, and service efficiency. However, the implementation with only low price or high quality might be helpless to hold a high position in modem market. Moreover more attention should be paid to the internal business processes of an organization. Therefore, a new and different method should be searched or developed in order to win the competitive power among other enterprises. This research will focus on the improvement of the business processes within the non-manufacturing industry by applying Lean Six Sigma methodology. DMAIC method will be applied to improve the inbound and outbound logistics processes, manage the inbound and outbound vehicles, and control the receiving and shipping activities.

  • This article systematically reviews the adoption of total quality management (TQM) implementation and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives on firm performance. A total of 233 published documents from 1996 to 2020 in international journals have been collected and listed on the SCOPUS database. It aims to fill the existing literature gap regarding TQM and CSR practices and point out a future research agenda. This study employed a systematic literature review approach to review those manuscripts related to TQM, CSR topics focused on firm performance. Consequently, the results stressed that TQM and CSR are excellent tools and have a similarity to support the firms to attain corporate sustainability; however, TQM practices have given more interest than CSR initiatives. Moreover, the results highlighted that only a few articles are interested in simultaneously combining TQM and CSR initiatives although this idea is rising in recent years. Thus, the statistical findings indicated several research gaps that remain unaddressed. It is worthy of considering TQM and CSR integration; however, other scholars need to identify the critical success factors that could enable TQM practices or barriers to CSR adoption. Particularly spending more attention on the transitional economies context, which is considering a promising future research context.

The Effect of Critical Work Factors on Job Motivation and Satisfaction: An Empirical Study from Vietnam

  • This paper aims to evaluate the effects of Critical work factors on Work Motivation and Job Satisfaction of young Vietnamese employees. The four most essential work aspects were consisting of the Work environment, Employee empowerment, Salary, and Promotion opportunities. To empirically evaluate the proposed research model, the authors assemble data through conducting questionnaire interviews with young employees working in Vietnamese firms. A sample of 216 respondents was constructed using the PLS-SEM program to highlight the testing of thirteen hypotheses. The testing results indicate that four Critical work factors positively impact the job motivation of young employees, especially two factors as Salary and Promotion opportunities. Surprisingly, the hypothesis regarding the positive direct relationship between Promotion opportunities and Job satisfaction is not supported. Meanwhile, the rest influence factors have a significant connection with the Vietnamese worker's job satisfaction. The mediation role of Work motivation was also tested by examining the indirect positive relationship between four Critical work factors and Job satisfaction. This paper is the first study that focuses on young employees; hence, these research findings provide Vietnamese human resource managers some suggestions for reference, which can be considered the dynamic factors on the young Vietnamese employees.

공급사슬관리의 예측전략과 지연전략 선택을 위한 프로파일링 접근법 (Profiling Approach for the Choice between Speculation and Postponement Strategy in Supply Chain Management)

  • Purpose - The postponement strategy, which delays the form, place, and production of products as late as possible, has been widely considered as a competitive supply chain management scheme in an era of mass customization and modular manufacturing. An interesting business phenomenon is that not all manufacturing/logistics firms choose the postponement strategy. Given that postponement is a counter-measure to speculation, which has some advantages under certain environments, the current imprudent inclination toward the postponement strategy may cause firms to lose the potential of the speculation strategy, an alternative strategy in supply chain management. Building on the logistics and manufacturing literature, this study examines characteristics of two contrasting strategies, postponement and speculation, and major factors favoring each strategy. Research design, data, and methodology - We apply the profiling approach to two business cases, HP printer and LG mobile phone. The profiling approach is a method of choosing a particular strategy aligned with environmental factors. While various approaches have been used to check the fit between a business strategy and environmental factors, the literature on manufacturing strategy and logistics has commonly adopted the profiling approach. Major factors used in profiling variables are derived from the literature. Two samples, HP printer and LG mobile phone, are selected, because they represent major characteristics appropriate for each strategy. The profiling is based on data from semi-organized interviews with managers. Results - The profiling approach shows that the postponement strategy is a suitable one for HP printers. Most factors, such as product life cycle, large production volume, low-price, product value, and monetary density, support delaying end products until as late as possible. Despite some exceptions, such as delivery time and economy of scale, our analysis states that the overall profile of HP printer is favorable for the postponement strategy. On the other hand, LG mobile phone may adapt the speculation strategy. Although it has large production volume and low delivery frequency, most characteristics support the speculation strategy for this product. An interesting finding is that, despite common perception that advanced technology products such as mobile telephones favor the postponement strategy, profiling proposes the speculation strategy for this product. Conclusions - Our analysis shows that speculation is not the universal option for supply chain management, and that, when choosing a specific strategy, one should consider many factors simultaneously. A major implication of our work is to emphasize the role of environmental factors such as supply chain variables in choosing an inventory strategy, and the importance of fit rather than solely strategic orientation. A theoretical contribution is to demonstrate the benefit of the simultaneous consideration of business variables in choosing specific strategies. For practitioners, our work leads us to consider the existence and the potential of speculation as a counter-measure to postponement. In addition, the comprehensive framework in this research may be instantly used in examining a practical strategy.

물류관련 기업들의 주가 상승률과 변동성 분석 (Analysis of Stock Price Increase and Volatility of Logistics Related Companies)

  • 본 연구는 물류관련 기업들의 주가 상승률과 변동성을 파악하고자 한다. 이를 위해 종합주가지수와 운수창고업지수, 코스닥지수와 운송업지수를 선정하여 지난 2000년 6월부터 2016년 10월까지 총 197개 동안의 월별자료를 이용하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 운수창고와 운수업의 주가지수 수익률을 산출하여 종합주가지수 및 코스닥지수와 비교 분석하여 물류산업의 발전 가능성과 향후 관련기업들의 투자 가치가 높은지를 판단하는데 있다. 이를 위해 각 지수의 기초통계량과 상관관계, 상승률동향 등을 다양하게 실증분석하고 운수창고와 운수업을 각 시장수익률과 비교하였다. 분석결과 지난 197개월 동안 운수창고와 운송업이 각 시장수익률보다 높은 수준으로 나타났다. 상관관계는 종합주가지수 경우 운수업 및 운수창고와 매우 높은 관계를 보였으나 코스닥지수와는 무관한 관계를 보여 서로 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 판단되었다. 운송업은 고위험 고수익을 나타내고 코스닥지수는 고위험 저수익 시장을 나타내고 있어 운송업이 상대적으로 효율적인 투자로 판단되었다. 향후 물류관련 산업의 발전 가능성과 운수창고 및 운송업이 시장수익률 대비 높은 상승률을 보일 것으로 기대하고 있어 새로운 투자대상으로 부각되기를 기대하고 있다.

디지털무역 시대의 한국·중국·일본의 전략적 무역정책에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Strategic Trade Policy of Korea, China and Japan in the Era of Digital Trade)

  • There are two aspects of digital trade: the digitalisation of goods/services being traded and the digitalisation of the transactional act. Digital data (i.e. machine-readable industrial data and transactional data) is the major driving force for both aspects of digital trade. Digital data is a non-rivalrous input, whether for production or marketing activities, and is thus able to be used by many firms or government agencies without limiting the use of others. Digital platforms provide online infrastructure for the interactions between groups, for instance, consumers and producers. The externality effect refers to the situation in which prosperity in one group on a given platform will improve the returns of other groups on the same platform. In the era of the data-driven economy, strategic trade policy can involve data-related policies. The major objective of these policies is to improve the competitiveness of domestic firms. For instance, firms may be subsidised if they use cloud services provided by specific platforms. This strand of strategic trade policies might be useful for increasing the competitiveness of small-and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) via the digitalisation of production/marketing processes. Alternatively, strategic trade policy may also exploit the externality effect via platform economy-related policies. Further, some countries may form data coalitions to facilitate cross-border data flow. This paper uses cases in Asian countries to illustrate which role these strategic trade policies can play in the digital economy.

부산시 물류창고업의 신뢰형성 수준과 연계의 공간적 특성 (Trust Building Level and Linkage's Spatial Characteristics on Logistics & Storage Industry in the City of Busan)

  • 본 연구는 부산시 물류창고업의 신뢰형성 수준과 연계의 공간적 특성 간의 관계를 밝히고자 하였으며, 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 신뢰형성 요인 중 '장기적 반복적 상호작용', '정보공유와 호혜성', '상호의존과 자산전용성'은 신뢰형성이 높은 수준인 미시적 신뢰, '근접성'과'불확실성'은 중간 수준인 중시적 신뢰, 그리고 '기업의 문화 및 규범과 공식적 제도'는 낮은 수준인 거시적 신뢰에 상대적으로 많은 영향을 미친다. 둘째, 거시적 신뢰, 중시적 신뢰, 미시적 신뢰 모두 공간적 근접성이 매우 큰 국지적 범위에서 대부분 형성되고, 신뢰형성 수준이 높을수록 연계의 공간적 범위는 국가적 범위, 국제적 범위로 확대된다. 셋째, 이러한 현상은 구매연계보다 판매연계에서, 제공하는 서비스 영역이 클수록, 수직적 연계보다 수평적 연계에서, 기업 간 관계가 발전할수록, 아웃소싱보다 공급사슬관리로 업무가 진행될 때 더욱 뚜렷하게 나타난다.

우리나라 해운기업의 운전자본관리와 수익성과의 관계에 관한 실증연구 (The Relationship between Working Capital Management and Profitability : evidence from Korean Shipping Industry)

  • 기업의 운전자본관리는 단기재무전략관리 차원에서 접근이 가능하며, 이는 기업의 유동성 및 수익성 등에 영향관계가 있음이 실증되고 있다. 따라서 효율적인 운전자본관리는 기업의 수익성을 증대시킬 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 유동성 또한 개선시킬 수 있게 된다. 해운기업의 경우 글로벌금융위기와 맞물려 수익성과 유동성에 많은 어려움을 겪었음에도 불구, 운전자본관리와 수익성에 대한 연구는 전무한 상태이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 2004년 이후 46개 해운기업을 대상으로 운전자본관리와 수익성과의 관계를 규명함으로써 단기재무전략 수립에 유용한 정보를 제공하고자 하였다. 연구의 결과 기존연구들과 같이 매입채무기간, 재고기간, 현금주기, 영업주기가 해운기업의 수익성 즉, 매출액 총이익률과 매출액영업이익률을 개선할 수 있는 중요한 요인인 것으로 실증되었다. 특히 매입채무신용기간과 영업주기의 증가는 수익성의 증가를 가져오는 것으로 분석된 반면, 재고기간과 현금주기는 부(-)의 관계를 보여 이들이 줄어들 경우 수익성이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 매출채권기간은 일부 모형에서 유의하였으나, 기존 연구들과는 달리 해운기업의 경우 수익성과의 관계를 설명하기에는 한계가 있는 것으로 나타났다.

국제물류주선업의 해외진출 전략에 관한 연구 (A Study of the Overseas Entry Strategies of Freight Forwarders)

  • 본 연구는 우리나라 국제물류주선업체의 해외 진출 현황과 최근 글로벌 물류시장의 동향을 살펴보고, 급변하는 물류환경 속에서 국제물류주선업체가 글로벌 물류기업으로 성장하고 국제 경쟁력을 확보하기 위한 효과적인 해외시장 진출 전략을 제시해보고자 하였다. 국제물류주선업체의 해외진출 형태를 해외파트너와 해외자회사 형태로 분류하여 분석하였다. 두 유형 보두에서 우리나라 국제물류주선업체들은 주로 극동 및 동남아시아 지역에 집중하여 해외에 진출하고 있으며, 해외파트너쉽에서는 만족도가 매우 높은 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 해외자회사 형태에서는 아직 초기 단계로 다양한 지역에서 해외자회사 수사 그리 많지 않은 실정이며, 본사의 주로 가격 경쟁력 중심으로 사업을 운영하고 있으며, 성과 및 만족도가 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 국제물류주선업체의 해외진출 성공전략으로 물류 서비스 특화, 중소 물류업체 간 협업체제 구축, 적합한 국제물류 전문 인력의 확보 육성 그리고 화주-물류동반 진출 등의 전략을 제시하였다. 본 연구는 우리나라 국제물류주선업체의 해외 진출 실태조사를 통해 해외 진출의 정도와 성과를 객관적으로 측정 및 평가하였다는 데 의의가 있다. 또한 실태조사 결과와 해외진출의 SWOT분석을 통해 실제적인 해외진출 전략방안을 제시함으로써, 우리나라 국제물류주선업의 글로벌 경쟁력 제고에 기여할 것으로 생각된다.

Optimal Pricing Strategies for Open Source Support Providers

  • The market for commercial open source software (OSS) has been rapidly growing with the proliferation of OSS. One way to commercialize OSS is the support model, which has been adopted by leading OSS firms such as Red Hat and JBoss. Despite the growing interest in OSS commercialization, little research has provided OSS support providers with a pricing guideline. In this paper, we examine the optimal pricing strategies for OSS support providers. Our benchmark is a monopoly case in which we investigate a startup software vendor's incentive to choose the OSS support regime over the proprietary one. Then we extend the model to a duopoly case in which OSS under the support regime competes against proprietary software. We characterize the conditions under which the OSS support model is viable under competition. We believe that our results offer insights to the OSS vendors who consider commercializing their OSS with a support model.
