This study examined how national research and development (R&D) in the domain of logistics has changed recently in the Republic of Korea. We conducted basic statistical analysis and social network analysis on 5,327 logistics-related R&D projects undertaken during 2005-2019. Data for performing these analyses were collected from the R&D database of the National Science and Technology Information Service (NTIS). By constructing a co-occurrence matrix with keywords, we conducted degree and betweenness centrality analysis and visualized the network matrix to display a cluster map. This study presents our observations related to the following findings: (1) the chronical trends of logistics R&D, (2) focused fields of logistics R&D, (3) the relations among keywords, and (4) the characteristics of logistics R&D. Finally, we suggest policy implications to boost and diversify logistics R&D.

An environment of world marine port today is rapidly changing. Importance of a hub port is being maximized along with appearance of a large container ship, and Busan port is also growing with the goal as a hub port of Northeast Asia. Busan port currently has competitive power as the 5th top port in the world, but increase rate of transportation quantity, is low compared to Shanghai port in China and other ports in Northeast Asia. For a port to obtain competitiveness, investment on infrastructures of a port is necessary and also it has close relation with an intraregional port logistics industry. However, a port logistics industry in Busan area has a hard time avoiding a small size due to the government support on major companies. Therefore, this study will analyze difficulties of small port logistics companies and the related companies as to vitalize port logistics industry in Busan area in hopes to help vitalizing regional economy.

In this study, we investigate the cooperative relationships between researchers who have co-authorship in the logistics-related journals in Korea by using social network analysis (SNA). We analyzed the co-authorship data of 781 articles published from 2005 to 2011 in four journals of 'Logistics Study', 'Journal of Korean Society of SCM', 'Korea Logistics Review' and 'Journal of Shipping and Logistics.' We examined the trend of cooperative research in the field of logistics with basic data of the co-authorship network. Then, we analyzed structural properties of the network and the sub-networks of research groups having co-authorship. We could verify the authors who play important roles within the network by using SNA indicators. In addition, we constructed the keyword networks based on the keyword data of all articles by research groups in order to understand the research topics of each group, and thereby we could draw several implications on the cooperative researches in the field of logistics.

This paper is aimed to analysis the logistics system of the Jeju island. Jeju island has a special feature about logistics system different from inland. In recent gradually increase of the jeju freight volumes but it has some problems about the port facilities shortage. We try to find the problems of the jeju and propose that an improvement plan.

The portion of air logistics is getting growing in the global logistics and customer need the rapidity and accuracy for freight delivery. But, the process of air logistics is so complicated because there are too many stakeholders involved in the process. So we suggest the way to make simple the process for improving ability of handling air freights. First, we analyze the AS-IS process and problems by studying previous documents and researching the field. Also we offer how to adopt the ways that are solutions concerning AS-IS process. Second, we suggest integrated information system that will make it simple the air logistics process and mitigate the intensive work load of air cargo. Also we show the reliance about our suggestion by simulation comparing TO-BE process to AS-IS process. We result in that this study will contribute to improve air logistics process by making simple the process.

This paper describes how studies at the Institute of Asian Pacific Studies for Multi-Clients, started in 1996, have gone beyond the boundary of 'production', to their present status. The application of 4PL could allow for the efficiency of many logistics operations to be greatly increased, for costs to be reduced, and for operations to become more responsive to consumer demand. The paradigm of the global logistics network has been rapidly changing from traditional concept of productivity in cost terms, toward the new characteristics of innovative productivity in terms of economies of scale, economies of scope, and economies of network. As the ship or airplane becomes larger and speedier, the less logistics hub required. The more diverse logistics parties integrate each other horizontally or vertically, the higher synergy effects they get. The more systematic concurrent engineering available for global supply chain management such as Korean manufacturers in China, the higher productivity they get. The paper analyzes these three paradigms of logistics into the application for the Korean manufacturers in China and concludes that the Korean government, the companies in China should be more focused on the governance of the logistics and the intermediary such as the 4th party logistics(4PL) is definitely developed its role and functions based on three paradigms above mentioned.

Logistics companies want to be competitive companies in fierce logistics market and are worrying about securing of differentiated competitiveness for it. The standards judging if logistics industry maintains the competitiveness are based on the satisfaction of users due to the well-established service system that can response not only economic feasibility of logistics costs such as transportation costs, storage costs, unloading charges, information costs, etc. but also diversity and upgradability of logistics needs. Therefore, this study focuses on seeking of service quality improvements with VBSD(Value Based Service Design) model focusing on customer value factors based on Kano model and QFD based service design approach from angles of customer value improvement and service costs reduction.
