  • As the mobile device and broadband wireless internet such as WiBro, HSDPA is widely spreading, various types of advertisement and services based on personal location information can be provided. However, with convenience supported by these services, it is possible to be increased an invasion of privacy such as personal location and moving pattern. In this paper, we analysis an essential element for protection of privacy related on location information in mobile environment and propose location privacy protocol for managing location privacy self-control. And we design and implementation prototype of location privacy self-control system which is able to manage user's location privacy condition oneself using the proposed location privacy protocol.

  • Owing to the change of economic trends, the importance of the tourism industry is growing more and more. In particular, the number of foreign tourists continues to increase and the type of tourists is being changed into FIT (Foreign Independent Traveler). Therefore it is an important issue to provide the effective information to foreign tourists. To solve these problems, a variety of IT technology is being used in the tourism information systems. Especially the location based tour information service is being emerged. This kinds of tourism information service is a type of LBS (Location Based Services). But if the security of the location based tourism information service is not guaranteed, it can lead to many dangers. In this paper, the trends of location based tourism information service are surveyed. Also the security threats and countermeasures for the location based tourism information service are analyzed. This paper suggests secret considerations for the location based tourism information service.

  • This study presents an RTS(Real-time Traffic System) based on an LBS(Location Based Service) using 5.8~5.9GHz RSU(Road Side Unit). The proposed LBI(Location based Broadcast system on ITS) is a local information-based service supported by RSU for drivers, which has a feature of convergence between T-DMB system and ITS-based RTS. The convergence of local broadcasting station and ITS is realized by two-way communication and supports LBS(Location Based Service) by identifying of vehicle's location using RSU. Real-time information delivery and various services could be provided by information exchanges between LMM and local broadcasting stations. Furthermore, conventional technical limitations have been solved mutually such as transmission area limitation in RTS and one-way communication problem in T-DMB. This support real-time two-way communication to each driver. Therefore, it can be expected that traffic dispersion effects and services expansion for drivers by RTS and LBI. Finally, it is proposed to built and implement test-bed around institute.

  • The LBS (Location-Based Services) are valuable information services combined the location of moving object with various contents such as map, POI (point of Interest), route and so on. The must general service of LBS is route determination service and its applicable parts are FMS (Fleet Management System), travel advisory system and mobile navigation system. The core function of route determination service is determination of optimal route from source to destination in various environments. The MODB (Moving Object Database) system, core part of LBS composition systems, is able to manage current or past location information of moving object and massive trajectory information stored in MODB is value-added data in CRM, ERP and data mining part. Also this past trajectory information can be helpful to determine optimal route. In this paper, we suggest methods to determine optimal route by querying past trajectory information in MODB system and verify the effectiveness of suggested method.

  • Aimed at the disclosure risk of mobile terminal user's location privacy in location-based services, a location-privacy protection scheme based on similar trajectory substitution is proposed. On the basis of the anonymized identities of users and candidates who request LBS, this scheme adopts trajectory similarity function to select the candidate whose trajectory is the most similar to user's at certain time intervals, then the selected candidate substitutes user to send LBS request, so as to protect user's privacy like identity, query and trajectory. Security analyses prove that this scheme is able to guarantee such security features as anonymity, non-forgeability, resistance to continuous query tracing attack and wiretapping attack. And the results of simulation experiment demonstrate that this scheme remarkably improve the optimal candidate' trajectory similarity and selection efficiency.

  • This study deals with the location management in WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) networks. The new location management method is the one of the many techniques used to provide the packet switched (PS) services effectively in WCDMA networks. WCDMA introduces RA (routing area) for the PS services in addition to LA (location area) for the circuit switched (CS) services. WCDMA system also adopts the cooperative paging and the combined area update which are to decrease signaling traffic using the PS network resources for the CS services. Considering the characteristics of the WCDMA networks, this study formulate into the mathematical programming problem for the location management. Rather than the existing researches which consider the single MSC/SGSN networks, we deal with the multi MSC/SGSN networks, where both MSC area and SGSN area should be determined as well. Fairness between traffic loads of MSC/SGSN and the system cost incurred to MSC/SGSN are also incorporated into our model, which make the model more realistic. We propose greedy algorithms for the problems, which consists of the merger of two neighboring areas and the movement of an area. Extensive experiment has been done based on the realistic problem examples. Followed by the analysis of parameter effect on the final solutions and the quality of final solutions obtained by our greedy algorithms. Our proposed model and analysis result can be used to determine WCDMA system areas and to predict the system performance measures by the determination.

  • In ubiquitous environment, there are no limits to utilize networks whenever and wherever you are. That pervasive networks are combined with the information devices and then create various services such as car navigation of LBS(location based service) and DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting). As these kinds of services are getting more various, the complexity is also getting higher and ultimately the convergence will make people feel frustrated. One of the solutions is Context-Awareness[1] technology. User interface with context-awareness filters unnecessary information and prevents users from being blocked due to the massive information. In this paper, we describe the seamless service system based on location-awareness, which is a type of context-awareness. We developed the system based on UPnP AV Framework. This system provides the automatic terminal device selection for the nomadic user. The system establishes new connections for the ongoing streaming playback session with the new AV devices without substantial loss of playback so that the user can enjoy the seamless service. The AV device selection based on the user's location needs no user's intervention or notification so it achieves the improvement of usability and complexity.

  • With the rapid growth of GPS-enable Smartphones, the interest on using Location Based Services (LBSs) has increased significantly. The evolution in the functionalities provided by those smartphones has enabled them to accurately pinpoint the location of a user. Because location information is what all LBSs depend on to process user's request, it should be properly protected from attackers or malicious service providers (SP). Additionally, maintaining user's privacy and confidentiality are imperative challenges to be overcome. A possible solution for these challenges is to provide user anonymity, which means to ensure that a user initiating a request to the SP should be indistinguishable from a group of people by any adversary who had access to the request. Most of the proposals that maintain user's anonymity are based on location obfuscation. It mainly focuses on adjusting the resolution of the user's location information. In this paper, we present a new protocol that is focused on using cryptographic techniques to provide anonymity for LBSs users in the smartphone environment. This protocol makes use of a trusted third party called the Anonymity Server (AS) that ensures anonymous communication between the user and the service provider.
