Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) are a practical application class of wireless ad hoc networks, which consist of moving vehicles equipped with radio communication capabilities that collaborate to form a temporary network. This paper addresses issues and protocols of multihop routing in such emerging networks in the context of safety and infotainment applications. Due to the highly dynamic mobility of vehicles, frequent link breakage and short connection time are inevitable and, thus, the routing is a challenging task and interest for many researchers and industrial community. The frequent and dynamic change of topology makes the topology-based routing unreliable but the position-based routing more effective. The position-based routing consists of the location service which maps a node id to a geo-graphical position and the forwarding scheme which selects the next hop based on geo-graphical information of the node, its neighbors and the destination. The routing techniques are further categorized into geographical forwarding, trajectory forwarding and opportunistic forwarding based on the forwarding scheme. In this paper, we first present the distinguished properties of VANETs and the challenges and intractable issues posed in designing the routing protocols, followed by the comprehensive survey of existing routing protocols. Then, the different routing protocols designed for VANETs are compared in terms of characteristics, performance and application domains.

In this paper, we propose location-aided cooperative routing protocol (LACARP) for supporting power saving and stable route lifetime in mobile ad-hoc wireless sensor networks. The main ideas and features of the proposed routing protocol are as follows. First, the definition of the area of route search using location-based information to support power saving transmission. Second, the expect zone-based establishment of routing route within the area of route search. Third, the cooperative-aided transmission method. In the operation of data transmission over the established rout the datas are transmitted via both the established route and cooperative route aided by neighbor nodes. The performance evaluation using OPNET(Optimized Network Engineering Tool) shows the LACARP can improve the packet delivery ratio and power saving transmission efficiently.
A shared-based tree established by the Core Based Tree multicast routing protocol (CBT), the Protocol Independent Multicast Sparse-Mode(PIM-SM), or the Core-Manager based Multicast Routing(CMMR) is rooted at a center node called core or Rendezvous Point(RP). The routes from the core (or RP) to the members of the multicast group are shortest paths. The costs of the trees constructed based on the core and the packet delays are dependent on the location of the core. The location of the core may affect the cost and performance of the shared-based tree. In this paper, we propose three methods for selecting the set of candidate cores. The three proposed methods, namely, k-minimum average cost, k-maximum degree, k-maximum weight are compared with a method which select the candidate cores randomly. Three performance measures, namely, tree cost, mean packet delay, and maximum packet delay are considered. Our simulation results show that the three proposed methods produce lower tree cost, significantly lower mean packet delay and maximum packet delay than the method which selects the candidate cores randomly.
One of the major issues in current on-demand routing protocols for ad hoc networks is the high resource consumed by route discovery traffic. In these protocols, flooding is typically used by the source to broadcast a route request (RREQ) packet in search of a route to the destination. Such network-wide flooding potentially disturbs many nodes unnecessarily by querying more nodes than is actually necessary, leading to rapid exhaustion of valuable network resources such as wireless bandwidth and battery power. In this paper, a simple optimization technique for efficient route discovery is proposed. The technique proposed herein is location-based and can be used in conjunction with the existing Location-Aided Routing (LAR) scheme to further reduce the route discovery overhead. A unique feature of our technique not found in LAR and most other protocols is the selective use of unicast instead of broadcast for route request/query transmission made possible by a novel reuse of routing and location information. We refer to this new optimization as the UNIQUE (UNIcast QUEry) technique. This paper studies the efficacy of UNIQUE by applying it to the route discovery of the Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocol. In addition, a comparative study is made with a DSR protocol optimized with only LAR. The results show that UNIQUE could further reduce the overall routing overhead by as much as 58% under highly mobile conditions. With less congestion caused by routing traffic, the data packet delivery performance also improves in terms of end-to-end delay and the number of data packets successfully delivered to their destinations.

In this paper, we are proposed ECOPS(Energy Conserving optimal Path Schedule) algorithm that according to ALPS(Ad hoc network Localized Positioning System) algorithm the location information is received and the new head node is selected considering the energy efficiency. The proposed algorithm follows RODMRP(Resilient Ontology-based Dynamic Multicast Routing Protocol) structure, that is the hierarchic cluster structure. And by using the location information of the node, it maintains the cluster which the energy is efficient with the production. It increases the life time of the total routing structure.
In order for location information to deliver the collected information, it needs Sensor Nodes in an environment of Sensor Network. Each sensor sends data to a base station through the process of routing in a wireless sensor network environment. Therefore, Offering accurate location information is very important in a wireless sensor network environment. Most of existed routing methods save all the informations of nodes at the area of 1-hop. In order to save these informations, unnecessary wasted energy and traffics are generated. Routing Protocol proposed in this paper doesn't save node's location information, and doesn't exchange any periodic location information to reduce wasted energy. It includes transmission range of source nodes and nodes with the location information, however it doesn't include any nodes' routing near 1-hope distance.
Sensor networks deployed in battlefields to support military operations or deployed in natural habitats to monitor the rare wildlifes must take account of protection of the location of valuable assets(i.e., soldiers or wildlifes) from an adversary or malicious tracing as well as the security of messages in transit. In this paper we propose a routing protocol GSLP(GPSR-based Source-Location Privacy) that is capable of enhancing the location privacy of an active source node(i.e., message-originating node) in the presence of multiple dormant sources(i.e., nodes lying nearby an asset whose location needs to be secured). Extended is a simple, yet scalable, routing scheme GPSR(greedy perimeter stateless routing) to select randomly a next-hop node with a certain probability for randomizing paths and to perform perimeter routing for detouring dormant sources so that the privacy strength of the active source, defined as safety period, keeps enhanced. The simulation results obtained by increasing the number of dormant sources up to 1.0% of the total number of nodes show that GSLP yields increased and nearly invariant safety periods, while those of PR-SP(Phantom Routing, Single Path), a notable existing protocol for source-location privacy, rapidly drop off as the number of dormant sources increases. It turns out that delivery latencies of GSLP are roughly less than two-fold of the shortest path length between the active source and the destination.
Depending on the location of the rendezvous point (RP), the network efficiency is determined in the core based tree (CBT) or protocol independent multicast-sparse mode (PIM-5M) multicasting protocol to provide the multicast services based on the shared tree. In this paper, a new algorithm to allocate the RP using the estimated values of the total cost and the size(number of entries) of the routing tables is proposed for efficiently controlling the cost and the number of routing table entries. The numerical results show that the proposed algorithm reduces the total cost in 5.37%, and the size of routing tables in 13.35% as compared to the previous algorithm.

Efficient routing protocols designed for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) can be extended and applied to Internet of Things (IoT) data routing, as IoT can be considered to be an extension from WSN. When the size of the data in IoT is often bigger than in conventional WSNs, existing cluster routing protocol such as LEACH may cause high data loss rate due to its incomplete load balancing. We present an enhanced LEACH-based protocol which can minimize the data loss which is an important performance measure in IoT. In our proposed protocol, the base station estimates the location of nodes by the trilateration technique to make sure optimal number of cluster heads and members in a deterministic manner. We evaluate our proposed protocol via computer simulations in terms of data loss rate and average network lifetime.

Wireless multi-hop communication is one of the key technologies to operate Unmanned Ground System (UGS) networks efficiently. Conventionally a lot of routing protocol has been developed and studied for multi-hop networks like Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET). However, the routing protocol for the unique environment of the UGS requires further studies, since conventional routing protocols cannot be used itself for UGS networks. In this paper, we propose the Betweenness Centrality based Geographic Routing (BCGR) which considers the main function of UGS. BCGR utilizes expanded ego betweenness centrality, mobility and location information error, respectively. We have conducted a simulation study for evaluating the performance of the BCGR using ns-3, and our simulation results show that BCGR outperforms the conventional routing protocols such as AODV and GPSR in terms of end-to-end transmission reliability, throughput and delay.
