  • This paper describes a fault location technique using wavelets in underground transmission power cable system. Estimation of fault location is performed using data smapled at two ends underground system. In the case of 50% fault of total underground transmission line, fault location is calculated using sampled single-end data in underground transmission line. Traveling wave is utilized in capturing the travel time of the transients along the monitored lines between the relay and the fault point. This traveling time information is provided by the wavelet. Simulation was performed using EMTP, ATP Draw and MATLAB. The results of fault location shown in this paper will be evaluated as an effective suggestion for fault location in real underground transmission line.

  • In mobile communication systems, location management deals with the location determination of users in a network. One of the strategies used in location management is to partition the network into location areas. Each location area consists of a group of cells. The goal of location management is to partition the network into a number of location areas such that the total paging cost and handoff (or update) cost is a minimum. Finding the optimal number of location areas and the corresponding configuration of the partitioned network is a difficult combinatorial optimization problem. This cell grouping problem is to find a compromise between the location update and paging operations such that the cost of mobile terminal location tracking is a minimum in location area wireless network. In fact, this is shown to be an NP-complete problem in an earlier study. In this paper, artificial bee colony (ABC) is developed and proposed to obtain the best/optimal group of cells for location area planning for location management system. The performance of the artificial bee colony (ABC) is better than or similar to those of other population-based algorithms with the advantage of employing fewer control parameters. The important control parameter of ABC is only 'Limit' which is the number of trials after which a food source is assumed to be abandoned. Simulation results for 16, 36, and 64 cell grouping problems in wireless network show that the performance of our ABC is better than those alternatives such as ant colony optimization (ACO) and particle swarm optimization (PSO).

Three Effective Top-Down Clustering Algorithms for Location Database Systems

  • Recent technological advances in mobile communication systems have made explosive growth in the number of mobile device users worldwide. One of the most important issues in designing a mobile computing system is location management of users. The hierarchical systems had been proposed to solve the scalability problem in location management. The scalability problem occurs when there are too many users for a mobile system to handle, as the system is likely to react slow or even get down due to late updates of the location databases. In this paper, we propose a top-down clustering algorithm for hierarchical location database systems in a wireless network. A hierarchical location database system employs a tree structure. The proposed algorithm uses a top-down approach and utilizes the number of visits to each cell made by the users along with the movement information between a pair of adjacent cells. We then present a modified algorithm by incorporating the exhaustive method when there remain a few levels of the tree to be processed. We also propose a capacity constraint top-down clustering algorithm for more realistic environments where a database has a capacity limit. By the capacity of a database we mean the maximum number of mobile device users in the cells that can be handled by the database. This algorithm reduces a number of databases used for the system and improves the update performance. The experimental results show that the proposed, top-down, modified top-down, and capacity constraint top-down clustering algorithms reduce the update cost by 17.0%, 18.0%, 24.1%, the update time by about 43.0%, 39.0%, 42.3%, respectively. The capacity constraint algorithm reduces the average number of databases used for the system by 23.9% over other algorithms.

  • RFID 기술은 물리 개체에 부착된 태그의 정보를 무선으로 인식하여 처리 할 수 있는 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅의 가장 핵심이 되는 기술이라고 할 수 있으며, RFID 시스템에서 무엇보다 중요한 것은 개체의 위치 추적이 중요하다. 이러한 위치 추적 및 서비스는 EPCglobal network에서 제안되고 있지만, 이 시스템을 위한 특별한 장비과 시스템이 필요하며, 다른 시스템과 호환성 등의 문제점을 가지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제점을 개선하고자 인터넷 표준 프로토콜인 SIP를 사용하였으며, 병원환경을 대상으로 응급환자 발생시, 담당 의사의 위치를 파악하는 시나리오를 통해 확인하였다.

  • 위치 인식 시스템은 물류, 의료, 홈 네트워크, 군사, 교통 시스템 등 다양한 분야에서 활용된다. 본 논문에서는 무선 RF만으로 정밀한 위치 인식이 가능한 IEEE802.15.4a의 CSS(Chirp Spread Spectrum)방식을 기반으로 다양한 환경에서 사용할 수 있는 위치인식 시스템을 설계하였다. 실험 결과 20m의 반경을 가지는 공간에서 0.5m 미만의 오차범위를 가지는 위치 인식 시스템을 구현하였다.

  • This paper is to determine the transportation size and the location of distribution centers to minimize logistics cost in a distribution system where products are transported from the distribution centers to the retailers. Logistics cost consists of the fixed cost of distribution centers, the transportation cost from the distribution centers to the retailers and the inventory holding cost in the retailers. The logistics cost is affected by the transportation size and the location of distribution centers. The transportation size affects transportation cost and inventory holding cost. The location of distribution centers affects the transportation cost. A mathematical model is formulated and the algorithm is developed. A numerical example is shown to explain the problem.

A Study on Advanced Location Awareness Component using Smart Phone GPS in BIS

  • A BIS(Bus Information System) collects, processes and analyzes information such as real-time location and operation status during bus operation. And It is a system that provides valid information to citizens, drivers, traffic centers and bus companies. Transport information system sent by an each bus is collected through GPS(Global Positioning System), DSRC(Dedicated Short Range Communications), Beacon and passed to transport information center. BIS data by collected is handled and analyzed. Next, it is transmitted to citizen, drivers and bus companies in real time. The result of 5 times simulation satisfied the test criteria(error range ${\pm}10m$) with an average error range of 3.306m, and the reliability is increased. In this paper, we propose a improved location transfer component that can provide users to quicker and more accurate location information than existing BIS using GPS of smart phone. It can be seen that reliability is improved by securing improved bus position data.

  • The cost and customer service level of a logistics system depend primarily on the system design of the physical supply system and physical distribution system. The study presents the mathematical model and a huristic solution method of a combined location - vehicle routing problem(LVRP). In LVRP the objective is to determine the number and location of the distribution centers, the allocation of customers to distribution centers, and the vehicle delivery routes, so as to minimize the logistics total cost and satisfy the customer.

Location Responsive Vehicle Digital Signage System for Visual Mobile Advertisement

  • In this paper we present the combination of location based mobile advertisement services and dynamic digital signage markets has been developing recent days to provide consumer admired visual mobile advertisement on all kind transportation vehicles. In spite of that, the digital signage advertisement content management is still not that easy to manage the content dynamically as well operation is most time consuming to handle the contents dynamically in digital signage business. As location based services is most impactful service in shopping, the location responsive advertisement on vehicle signage will be most desirable mobile advertisement to help people migrate from one place to another place for travel or stay. This paper propose a mobile location responsive digital signage system for vehicles using the GPS and wireless infrastructure integrated with digital signage system. This proposed research use the centralized digital signage system architecture for the mobile advertisement application and this system can be expanded to different vehicles for digital advertisement including buses, trucks, train, air vehicle and any other form of mobile advertising vehicles. Also, this present an effective advertisement recommendation algorithm, by which the advertisement can be selected broadcasted for the right advertisement ventures more effectively as the service requested from advertiser. This paper present the emulated experimental result to evidence the proposed dynamic vehicle signage system performed better than compared with traditional signage random advertising. The emulated result proves that the advertisement recommendation algorithm can effectively works out the targeted key audiences in location responsive region the algorithm evaluated.

전반조명 기반 사용자 및 위치인식기술 적용 조명제어 시스템 제안 연구 (A Study on the Suggestion of a Lighting Control System Applying General Illumination and Technology of User and Location Awareness)

  • Studies for the reduction of lighting energy have been done using technologies such as user and location awareness. However, the focus of current research on location-based lighting control has been on energy reduction, which can lead to other issues including an imbalance in indoor illumination. This study proposes a lighting control system applying general illumination and technology for user and location awareness. The proposed lighting control system reduced lighting energy by 72.1%, 66.5% and 62.3% for 1, 2 and 3 users, respectively, compared to the On/Off lighting control system. This lighting control system causes an increase in lighting energy of 35.8% and 10.9% for 1 and 2 users compared to the lighting control system with user and location awareness, while a reduction of 9.4% was seen for 3 users. This means that the proposed system provides more effective energy reduction for a room with multiple occupants as it is based on the general lighting control scheme. The lighting control system applying general illumination and technology of user and location awareness improved the uniformity factor by 32.0%, 39.4% and 33.4% for 1, 2 and 3 users, respectively.
