  • Highway is mainly in charge of middle-long distance of vehicular travel. Trip length has shown a growing trend due to increased commute distances by the relocation of public agencies. For this reason, the proportion of driver-driven accidents, caused by their fatigue or sleepiness, are very high on highways. However, existing studies related to accident prediction have mainly considered external factors, such as road conditions, environmental factors and vehicle factors, without driving behavior. In this study, we suggested an accident index (FDR, Fatigued Driving Rate) based on traffic behavior using large-scale Car Navigation path data, and exlpored the relationship between FDR and traffic accidents. As a result, FDR and traffic accidents showed a high correlation. This confirmed the need for a paradigm shift (from facilities to travel behavior) in traffic accident prediction studies. FDR proposed in this study will be utilized in a variety of fields. For example, in providing information to prevent traffic accidents (sleepiness, reckless driving, etc) in advance, utilization of core technologies in highway safety diagnostics, selection of priority location of rest areas and shelter, and selection of attraction methods (rumble strips, grooving) for attention for fatigued sections.

  • The major continental blocks in NE-Asia are the North China Block and the South China Blo, which have collided, starting from the Korean peninsula. The suture zone in NE China between two blocks is well defined from the QinIing-Dabie-Orogenic Belt to the Jiaodong (Sulu) Belt by the geological and geophysical interpretation. The discovery of high pressure metamorphic rocks in the Hongsung area of the Korean peninsula can be used to estimate the suture zone. This indicates that the suture zone in the Jiaodong Belt might be extended to Hongsung area. However, due to the lack of geological and geophysical data over the Yellow sea, the extension of the suture zone to the Korean peninsula across the Yellow Sea is obscure. To find out the tectonic relationship between NE China and the Korean peninsula it is necessary to complete U-ie homogeneous geophysical dataset of NE Asia, which can be provided by satellite observations. The CHAMP lithospheric magnetic field (MF3) and CHAMP-GRACE gravity field, combined with surface measured data, allow a much more accurate in-ference of tectonic structures than previously available. The CHAMP magnetic anomaly map reveals significant magnetic lows in the Yellow Sea near Nanjing and Hongsung, where are characterized by gravity highs on U-ie CHAMP-GRACE gravity anomaly map. To evaluate the depth and location of poten-tial field anomaly causative bodies, the Euler Deconvolution method is implemented. After comparing the two potential field solutions with the simplified geological map containing tectonic lines and the distribution of earthquakes epicenters, it is found that the derived structure boundaries of both are well coincident with the seismic activities as well as with the tectonic lineaments. The interpretation of the CHAMP satellite magnetic and GRACE satellite gravity datasets reveal two tectonic boundaries in U-ie Yellow Sea and the Korean peninsula, indicating U-ie norttiern and southern margins of the suture zone between the North China Block and the South China Block. The former is extended from the Jiaodong Belt in East China to the Imjingang Belt on the Korean peninsula, the later from Nanjing, East China, to Hongsung, the Korean peninsula. The tectonic movement in or near the suture zone might be responsible for the seismic activities in the western region of the Korean Peninsula and the development of the Yellow Sea sedimentary basin.

  • In July 2021, UNCTAD classified Korea as a developed country. After the Korean War in the 1950s, economic development was promoted despite difficult conditions, resulting in epoch-making national growth. However, in order to respond to the rapidly changing global economy, it is necessary to continuously study the domestic industrial ecosystem and prepare strategies for continuous change and growth. This study analyzed the industrial ecosystem of the automobile industry where it is possible to obtain transaction data between companies by applying complexity spatial network analysis. For data, 295 corporate data(node data) and 607 transaction data (link data) were used. As a result of checking the spatial distribution by geocoding the address of the company, the automobile industry-related companies were concentrated in the Seoul metropolitan area and the Southeastern(Dongnam) region. The node importance was measured through degree centrality, betweenness centrality, closeness centrality, and eigenvector centrality, and the network structure was confirmed by identifying density, distance, community detection, and assortativity and disassortivity. As a result, among the automakers, Hyundai Motor, Kia Motors, and GM Korea were included in the top 15 in 4 indicators of node centrality. In terms of company location, companies located in the Seoul metropolitan area were included in the top 15. In terms of company size, most of the large companies with more than 1,000 employees were included in the top 15 for degree centrality and betweenness centrality. Regarding closeness centrality and eigenvector centrality, most of the companies with 500 or less employees were included in the top 15, except for automakers. In the structure of the network, the density was 0.01390522 and the average distance was 3.422481. As a result of community detection using the fast greedy algorithm, 11 communities were finally derived.

  • Groundwater recharge rates vary widely by location and with time. They are difficult to measure directly and are thus often estimated using simulations. This study employed frequency and regression analysis and a classification and regression tree (CART) algorithm in a machine learning method to estimate groundwater recharge. CART algorithms are considered for the distribution of precipitation by subbasin (PCP), geomorphological data, indices of the relationship between vegetation and landuse, and soil type. The considered geomorphological data were digital elevaion model (DEM), surface slope (SLOP), surface aspect (ASPT), and indices were the perpendicular vegetation index (PVI), normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), normalized difference tillage index (NDTI), normalized difference residue index (NDRI). The spatio-temperal distribution of groundwater recharge in the SWAT-MOD-FLOW program, was classified as group 4, run in R, sampled for random and a model trained its groundwater recharge was predicted by CART condidering modified PVI, NDVI, NDTI, NDRI, PCP, and geomorphological data. To assess inter-rater reliability for group 4 groundwater recharge, the Kappa coefficient and overall accuracy and confusion matrix using K-fold cross-validation were calculated. The model obtained a Kappa coefficient of 0.3-0.6 and an overall accuracy of 0.5-0.7, indicating that the proposed model for estimating groundwater recharge with respect to soil type and vegetation cover is quite reliable.

  • Purpose: Growth hormone transduction defect (GHTD) is characterized by severe short stature, impaired STAT3 (signal transducer and activator of transcription-3) phosphorylation and overexpression of the cytokine inducible SH2 containing protein (CIS) and p21/CIP1/WAF1. To investigate the role of p21/CIP1/WAF1 in the negative regulation of the growth hormone (GH)/GH receptor and Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)/EGF Receptor pathways in GHTD. Methods: Fibroblast cultures were developed from gingival biopsies of 1 GHTD patient and 1 control. The protein expression and the cellular localization of p21/CIP1/WAF1 was studied by Western immunoblotting and immunofluorescence, respectively: at the basal state and after induction with $200-{\mu}g/L$ human GH (hGH) (GH200), either with or without siRNA CIS (siCIS); at the basal state and after inductions with $200-{\mu}g/L$ hGH (GH200), $1,000-{\mu}g/L$ hGH (GH1000) or 50-ng/mL EGF. Results: After GH200/siCIS, the protein expression and nuclear localization of p21 were reduced in the patient. After successful induction of GH signaling (control, GH200; patient, GH1000), the protein expression and nuclear localization of p21 were reduced. After induction with EGF, p21 translocated to the cytoplasm in the control, whereas in the GHTD patient it remained located in the nucleus. Conclusion: In the GHTD fibroblasts, when CIS is reduced, either after siCIS or after a higher dose of hGH (GH1000), p21's antiproliferative effect (nuclear localization) is also reduced and GH signaling is activated. There also appears to be a positive relationship between the 2 inhibitors of GH signaling, CIS and p21. Finally, in GHTD, p21 seems to participate in the regulation of both the GH and EGF/EGFR pathways, depending upon its cellular location.

  • Injury mechanisms of lower extremity injuries in motor vehicle accidents are focused on fractures, sprains, and contusions. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the analysis of lower extremity injury mechanism in occupant motor vehicle accident by using Hospital Information System (HIS) and reconstruction program, based on the materials related to motor vehicle accidents. Among patients who visited the emergency department of Wonju Severance Christian Hospital due to motor vehicle accidents from August 2012 to February 2014, we collected data on patients with agreement for taking the damaged vehicle's photos. After obtaining the verbal consent from the patient, we asked about the cause of the accident, information on vehicle involved in the accident, and the location of car repair shop. The photos of the damaged vehicle were taken on the basis of front, rear, left side and right side. Damage to the vehicle was presented using the CDC code by analytical study of photo-images of the damaged vehicle, and a trauma score was used for medical examination of the severity of the patient's injury. Among the 1,699 patients due to motor vehicle crashes, 88 (5.2%) received a diagnosis of lower extremity fracture and 141 (8.3%) were the severe who had ISS over 15. Nevertheless during 19 months for research, it was difficult to build up in-depth database about motor vehicle crashes. It has a limitation on collecting data because not only the system for constructing database about motor vehicle crash is not organized but also the process for demanding materials is not available due to prevention of personal information. For accurate analysis of the relationship between occupant injury and vehicle damage in motor vehicle crashes, build-up of an in-depth database through carrying out various policies for motor vehicle crashes is necessary for sure.

  • This study covers Namwoneupseong Fortress(南原邑城), Historic Site No. 298, which played a pivotal role in the urban development and military defense history of Namwon during the Joseon Dynasty. From the related historical records, Namwoneupseong Fortress was first constructed during the reign of King Seongjong. Discussion on the extension of Namwoneupseong Fortress, afterwards, was mainly guided by he traces of Yuingweseong Fortress(劉仁軌城). In other words, the original construction of the Fortress was in the original shape of the current Namwoneupseong Fortress, and Yuingweseong Fortress heavily impacted the extension works of Namwoneupseong Fortress. Although some studies covered Namwoneupseong Fortress and its overall construction process, no in-depth study exists on the original Namwoneupseong Fortress and Yuingweseong Fortress. This study covers the overall construction process of Namwoneupseong Fortress. At the same time, we tried to confirm inclusively and objectively the facts related to the relationship between Yuingweseong Fortress and Namwoneupseong Fortress, process and range of the expansion of Namwoneupseong Fortress among others through the location search of the originally built Namwoneupseong Fortress and Yuingweseong Fortress. The study discovered that Yuingweseong Fortress was built in A.D. 660~665 and that Namwoneupseong Fortress, which was built in the early stage of King Seongjong's reign, was extended along the traces of Yuingweseong Fortress towards the southeast. Furthermore, the study confirmed that Namwoneupseong Fortress is consisted of three sections - the section with Namwoneupseong Fortress's original walls preserved, newly constructed section, and the section following Yuingweseong Fortress's traces.

  • This study puts its focus on Honjeon space which relatively small number of precedent studies chose as a subject of a study. The objective is to analyze Honjeon space's spatial relationship and palaces that consist Honjeon through analysis of spatial configuration and elements that affected construction of Honjeon space. The Royal Funeral, among other ceremonies of Joseon Dysnasty, carries religious characteristic along with functional and structural characteristics. By analyzing "National Five Rites", "Uigwe for the State Funeral 魂殿都監儀軌", and "Annals of Joseon Dynasty", the study organized elementary details about Honjeon space and surrounding spaces to determine the symbolism of Honjeon space's location at each palace and compared them to see if any systematical features existed between Honjeon spaces of each palace. Through this study, it was apparent the king mainly used Jaseongdang Hall of Gyeongbokgung in the early period of Joseon Dynasty and he mainly used Sunjeongjun of Changdeokgung while the queen used Munjeongjun of Changgyeonggung as the time reached the later period of Joseon Dynasty. Also in determination of Honjeon space, the study found that there were records of avoiding Pyeonjeon space in need for political space. The study also determined that places other than Pyeonjeon space was intended to be used for Honjeon space through the analysis which indicates that spaces that were initially used as Pyeonjun in the early Joseon Dynasty and simultaneously as Honjeon space were moved due to changes made in terms of theirs usages. Through the study, it could be also known that primary spaces of Honjeon was composed accordingly to "National Five Rites" and constant pattern of spaces existed among buildings near Honjeon which were arranged according to each palace's characteristic.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the influence of demographic characteristics such as inappropriate lifestyle, stress, and health status among health risk factors of early adolescents according to gender. There is a gender difference in the perception of mental and physical health of early adolescents, and the result can be different in behavior patterns between men and women. This study was conducted to identify the health risk factors as independent variables for early adolescents in Daegu and Gyeongbuk area, and to analyze the determinants of gender (male, female) differences by parents, family environment, friends, academic background, appearance, grade, location, school grades, family situation, and health status as demographic factors. And, the Odds Ratio of the early adolescents was analyzed through logit analysis and the differences according to the influence relationship of each of them were examined. As a result of the analysis, the more the sleep and physical activity, parents, home environment, friends, academic background, and appearance are increased, the more the influence is likely to become on the male students. On the contrary, the rest of the health risk factors can increase, and the threat to the health risk factors is likely to become severe to the female students.Among them, it is necessary to develop a pre-preventive program for early adolescents' health risk factors, provide basic data for practical application in the field, and seek a detailed program according to the gender of early adolescents.

  • This article examined the burial type, wooden coffin and its historical significance of Iksan Ssangneung, the royal tombs of Baekje. Ssangneung was found to be the royal tombs of King Mu(武王) and queen through the burial type, wooden coffin, articles such as chinese jade ornaments and the deep relationship between King Mu and Iksan region. The reason of constructing Baekje royal tombs in Iksan region can be examined at many aspects. First, Iksan was a very important place for King Mu. Because Iksan was the basis of his political growth. Also, Iksan was a important geopolitical location in relation with Silla(新羅). For this reason, Iksan was developed in earnest. The construction of major facilities such as royal palace and temples in Iksan suggest the transfer of the capital from Sabi(泗?) or the preparation and partial execution at least. However, the transfer of the capital was not completed. It can be seen as the incomplete city. However, even after King Mu Iksan was maintained as the important region by King Euja(義慈王). It can be seen through the maintenance of great temples such as Jeseoksa(帝釋寺) and Mireuksa(彌勒寺) built at later period of King Mu and royal palace area, even though royal palace had turned into the temple. These inherited consciousness may have been embodied in the act of building royal tombs of King Mu and queen.
