Background: The location of parotid gland tumors can influence the duration and the difficulty of the operation. If the information about tumor location was available preoperatively, it would allow accurate operative planning and counseling of patients in terms of the length of the operation and the potential morbidity. Methods: This study was based on a retrospective review of 100 patients with parotid gland tumors underwent parotidectomy from January 2000 to October 2005 at Yong-Dong Severance Hospital. Based on computed tomographic(CT) scan findings, 4 landmarks such as facial nerve(FN) line, Utrecht(U) line, Conn's are(CA), and retromandibular vein (RV) were drawn on the scans in same plane. The location of tumors were determined by the landmarks and confirmed by the operative findings. The accuracy of each landmarks was evaluated. To find out the accuracies according to tumor size, the tumors were divided into 2 groups; less than 2 cm and larger than 2 cm in diameter. Results: U line was the most accurate(94%), sensitive(89.3%) and specific(97.7%) in predicting tumor location of the parotid gland. However, in small tumors less than 2cm, FN line (p=0.022) and RV criteria (p=0.028) were more reliable in accuracy. Conclusion: CA, FN line, U line, and RV are all useful landmarks in preoperative prediction for the location of parotid gland tumors. However, U line was the most accurate, but we must consider that proper landmark should be used in prediction according to the size of tumor because the accuracy of landmark may change.
360VR content requires short latency, such as immediate response to viewers' viewport changes and high quality video delivery. It is necessary to consider efficient transmission that guarantees the QoE(Quality of Experience) of the 360VR contents with limited bandwidth. Several research has been introduced to reduce overall bandwidth consumption by predicting a user's viewport and allocating different bit rates to the area corresponding to the viewport. In this paper, we propose novel viewport prediction scheme that uses sound source location information of 360VR contents as auditory recognition information along with visual recognition information. Also, we propose efficient transmission algorithm by allocating a bit rate properly based on improved viewport prediction. The proposed scheme improves the accuracy of the viewport prediction and provides high quality videos to tiles corresponding to the user's viewpoint within the limited bandwidth.

Predicting path loss is one of the important factors for wireless network design, such as selecting the installation location of base stations in cellular networks. In the past, path loss values were measured through numerous field tests to determine the optimal installation location of the base station, which has the disadvantage of taking a lot of time to measure. To solve this problem, in this study, we propose a path loss prediction method based on machine learning (ML). In particular, an ensemble learning approach is applied to improve the path loss prediction performance. Bootstrap dataset was utilized to obtain models with different hyperparameter configurations, and the final model was built by ensembling these models. We evaluated and compared the performance of the proposed ensemble-based path loss prediction method with various ML-based methods using publicly available path loss datasets. The experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the existing methods and can predict the path loss values accurately.

Ubiquitous home is emerging as the future digital home environments that provide various ubiquitous home services like u-Life, u-Health, etc. It is composed of some home appliances and sensors which are connected through wired/wireless network. Ubiquitous home services become aware of user's context with the information gathered from sensors and make home appliances adapt to the current home situation for maximizing user convenience. In these context-aware home environments, it is the one of significant research topics to predict user behaviors in order to proactively control the home environment. In this paper, we propose Multi-Level prediction algorithm for context-aware services in ubiquitous home environment. The algorithm has two phases, prediction and execution. In the first prediction phase, the next location of user is predicted using tree algorithm with information on users, time, location, devices. In the second execution phase, our table matching method decides home appliances to run according to the prediction, device's location, and user requirement. Since usually home appliances operate together rather than separately, our approach introduces the concept of mode service, so that it is possible to control multiple devices as well as a single one. We also devised some scenarios for the conceptual verification and validated our algorithm through simulations.

In this paper, two types of techniques for the prediction of radiated sound pressure due to vibration of a structure are investigated. The prediction performance using wave-number sensing technique is compared to that of conventional prediction method, such as Rayleigh's integral method, for the prediction of far-field radiated sound pressure. For a coupled plate, wave-number components are predicted by the vibration response of plate and the prediction performance of far-field sound is verified. In addition, the applicability of distributed sensors that are not allowable to Rayleigh's integral method is considered and these can replace point sensors. Experimental implementation verified the prediction accuracy of far-field sound radiation by the wave-number sensing technique. Prediction results from the technique are as good as those of Rayleigh's integral method and with distributed sensors, more reduced computation time is expected. To predict the radiated sound by the efficient configuration of structural sensors, composed(synthesized) mode considering sound power contribution is determined and from this size and location of sensors are chosen. Four types of sensor configuration are suggested, simulated and compared.

The function of a protein is closely co-related with its subcellular location(s). Given a protein sequence, therefore, how to determine its subcellular location is a vitally important problem. We have developed a new prediction method for protein subcellular location(s), which is based on n-gram feature extraction and k-nearest neighbor (kNN) classification algorithm. It classifies a protein sequence to one or more subcellular compartments based on the locations of top k sequences which show the highest similarity weights against the input sequence. The similarity weight is a kind of similarity measure which is determined by comparing n-gram features between two sequences. Currently our method extract penta-grams as features of protein sequences, computes scores of the potential localization site(s) using kNN algorithm, and finally presents the locations and their associated scores. We constructed a large-scale data set of protein sequences with known subcellular locations from the SWISS-PROT database. This data set contains 51,885 entries with one or more known subcellular locations. Our method show very high prediction precision of about 93% for this data set, and compared with other method, it also showed comparable prediction improvement for a test collection used in a previous work.
Sign-in point of interest (POI) are extremely sparse in location-based social networks, hindering recommendation systems from capturing users' deep-level preferences. To solve this problem, we propose a content-aware POI recommendation algorithm based on a convolutional neural network. First, using convolutional neural networks to process comment text information, we model location POI and user latent factors. Subsequently, the objective function is constructed by fusing users' geographical information and obtaining the emotional category information. In addition, the objective function comprises matrix decomposition and maximisation of the probability objective function. Finally, we solve the objective function efficiently. The prediction rate and F1 value on the Instagram-NewYork dataset are 78.32% and 76.37%, respectively, and those on the Instagram-Chicago dataset are 85.16% and 83.29%, respectively. Comparative experiments show that the proposed method can obtain a higher precision rate than several other newer recommended methods.
Our studies diagnose insulation degradation using the method of computer sensing system, which has the advantages of PD(partial discharge) and AE(acoustic emission) sensing system. To use advantages of these two methods can be used effectively to search for treeing location and PD in some materials. In analysis method of degradation, using statically operator such as the center of gravity (G), the gradient of the discharge distribution(C), we have analyzed for the prediction of life which we can be obtained the time, occurred of many pulse of small discharge amplitude.
This paper proposes a restoration scheme based on mobility learning and prediction in the presence of the failure of mobility databases in mobile communication systems. In mobile communication systems, mobility databases must maintain the current location information of users to provide a fast connection for them. However, the failure of mobility databases may cause some location information to be lost. As a result, without an explicit restoration procedure, incoming calls to users may be rejected. Therefore, an explicit restoration scheme against the failure of mobility databases is needed to guarantee continuous service availability to users. Introducing mobility learning and prediction into the restoration process allows systems to locate users after a failure of mobility databases. In failure-free operations, the movement patterns of users are learned by a Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (NFIS). After a failure, an inference process of the NFIS is initiated and the users' future location is predicted. This is used to locate lost users after a failure. This proposal differs from previous approaches using checkpoint because it does not need a backup process nor additional storage space to store checkpoint information. In addition, simulations show that our proposal can reduce the cost needed to restore the location records of lost users after a failure when compared to the checkpointing scheme

This paper introduces a GP (Genetic Programming) based robust technique for the prediction of a heavy rain newsflash. The nature of prediction for precipitation is very complex, irregular and highly fluctuating. Especially, the prediction of heavy precipitation is very difficult. Because not only it depends on various elements, such as location, season, time and geographical features, but also the case data is rare. In order to provide a robust model for precipitation prediction, a nonlinear and symbolic regression method using GP is suggested. The remaining part of the study is to evaluate the performance of prediction for a heavy rain newsflash using a GP based nonlinear regression technique in Korean regions. Analysis of the feature selection is executed and various fitness functions are proposed to improve performances. The KLAPS data of 2006-2010 is used for training and the data of 2011 is adopted for verification.
