In this research a theoretical and numerical study on a bridge damage detection procedure is presented based on vibration measurements collected from a set of accelerometers. This method, referred to as "Adjoint Variable Method", is a sensitivity-based finite element model updating method. The approach relies on minimizing a penalty function, which usually consists of the errors between the measured quantities and the corresponding predictions attained from the model. Moving mass is an interactive model and includes inertia effects between the model and mass. This interactive model is a time varying system and the proposed method is capable of detecting damage in this variable system. Robustness of the proposed method is illustrated by correct detection of the location and extension of predetermined single, multiple and random damages in all ranges of speed and mass ratio of moving vehicle. A comparative study on common sensitivity and the proposed method confirms its efficiency and performance improvement in sensitivity-based damage detection methods. In addition various possible sources of error, including the effects of measurement noise and initial assumption error in stability of method are also discussed.
In the present study, the objective is to detect the structural damages using the responses obtained from the sensors at the optimal location under uncertainty conditions. Reducing the error rate in damage detection process due to responses' noise is an important goal in this study. In the proposed algorithm for optimal sensor placement, the noise of responses recorded from the sensors is initially reduced using the principal component analysis. Afterward, the optimal sensor placement is obtained by the damage detection equation based sensitivity analysis. The sensors are placed on degrees of freedom corresponding to the minimum error rate in structural damage detection through this procedure. The efficiency of the proposed method is studied on a truss bridge, a space dome, a double-layer grid as well as a three-story experimental frame structure and the results are compared. Moreover, the performance of the suggested method is compared with three other algorithms of Average Driving Point Residue (ADPR), Effective Independence (EI) method, and a mass weighting version of EI. In the examples, young's modulus, density, and cross-sectional areas of the elements are considered as uncertainty parameters. Ultimately, the results have demonstrated that the presented algorithm under uncertainty conditions represents a high accuracy to obtain the optimal sensor placement in the structures.
The major role of temperature sensors in thermal error compensation system of machine tools is improving machining accuracy by supplying reliable temperature data on the machine structure. This paper presents a new method for fault diagnosis of temperature sensors and recovery of faulted data to establish the reliability of thermal error compensation system. The detection of fault and its location is based on the correlation coefficients among temperature data from the sensors. The multiple linear regression model which is prepared using complete normal data is also used fur the recovery of faulted data. The effectiveness of this method was tested by comparing the computer simulation results and measured data in a CNC machining center.
This paper presents a new two-terminal numerical algorithm for fault location estimation and for faults recognition using the synchronized phaser in time-domain. The proposed algorithm is also based on the synchronized voltage and current phasor measured from the assumed PMUs(Phasor Measurement Units) installed at both ends of the transmission lines. Also the arc voltage wave shape is modeled numerically on the basis of a great number of arc voltage records obtained by transient recorder. From the calculated arc voltage amplitude it can make a decision whether the fault is permanent or transient. In this paper the algorithm is given and estimated using DFT(discrete Fourier Transform) and the LES(Least Error Squares Method). The algorithm uses a very short data window and enables fast fault detection and classification for real-time transmission line protection. To test the validity of the proposed algorithm, the Electro-Magnetic Transient Program(EMTP/ATP) is used.
Change detections is carried out under the assumption that pixel boundaries of geometrically corrected time series satellite images cover the same location. However that assumption can be wrong when shifts in the pointing direction of a satellite sensor occurs. Currently, although the influence of misregistration on landcover change detection has been investigated, there has been little research on the influence of pointing direction shifts of a satellite sensor. In this study, a simple method for reducing the effects of pointing direction shifts of a satellite sensor is proposed: the classification of two ASTER images was carried out using the linear spectral mixture analysis, the two classification results were resampled into a geometrically fixed grid, and then the change detection of the two ASTER images was carried out by comparing the resampled classification results of the two images. The proposed method showed high performance in discriminating between changed areas and unchanged areas by removing the pointing direction shifts of a satellite sensor.
This paper presents a new method for building detection and reconstruction from aerial images. In our approach, we extract useful building location information from the generated disparity map to segment the interested objects and consequently reduce unnecessary line segments extracted in the low level feature extraction step. Hypothesis selection is carried out by using an undirected graph, in which close cycles represent complete rooftops hypotheses. We test the proposed method with the synthetic images generated from Avenches dataset of Ascona aerial images. The experiment result shows that the extracted 3D line segments of the reconstructed buildings have an average error of 1.69m and our method can be efficiently used for the task of building detection and reconstruction from aerial images.
This study used the Deep Learning models used in previous studies, we selected the basic model. The selected model was selected as ZFNet among ZFNet, Googlenet and ResNet, and the object was detected using a ZFNet based FRCNN. In order to reduce the detection error rate of FRCNN, location of four types of objects detected inside the image was designed by SVM classifier and location-based filtering was applied. As simulation results, it showed similar performance to the lane marking classification method with conventional 경계 detection, with an average accuracy of about 88.8%. In addition, studies using the Linear-parabolic Model showed a processing speed of 165.65ms with a minimum resolution of 600 × 800, but in this study, the resolution was treated at about 33ms with an input resolution image of 1280 × 960, so it was possible to classify lane marking at a faster rate than the previous study by CNN-based End to End method.

This paper aims to present a novelty damage detection method to identify damage locations by the simultaneous use of both the energy and displacement damage indices. Using this novelty method, the damaged location and even the damaged floor are accurately detected. As a first method, a combination of the instantaneous frequency energy index (EDI) and the structural acceleration responses are used. To evaluate the first method and also present a rapid assessment method, the Displacement Damage Index (DDI), which consists of the error reliability (β) and Normal Probability Density Function (NPDF) indices, are introduced. The innovation of this method is the simultaneous use of displacement-acceleration responses during one process, which is more effective in the rapid evaluation of damage patterns with velocity vectors. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method, various damage scenarios of the ASCE benchmark problem, and the effects of measurement noise were studied numerically. Extensive analyses show that the rapid proposed method is capable of accurately detecting the location of sparse damages through the building. Finally, the proposed method was validated by experimental studies of a six-story steel building structure with single and multiple damage cases.
