In this paper, we describes the information-theoretic approaches to sensor selection and sensor placement in sensor networks for target localization and tracking. We have developed a sensor selection heuristic to activate the most informative candidate sensor for collaborative target localization and tracking. The fusion of the observation by the selected sensor with the prior target location distribution yields nearly the greatest reduction of the entropy of the expected posterior target location distribution. Our sensor selection heuristic is computationally less complex and thus more suitable to sensor networks with moderate computing power than the mutual information sensor selection criteria. We have also developed a method to compute the posterior target location distribution with the minimum entropy that could be achieved by the fusion of observations of the sensor network with a given deployment geometry. We have found that the covariance matrix of the posterior target location distribution with the minimum entropy is consistent with the Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRB) of the target location estimate. Using the minimum entropy of the posterior target location distribution, we have characterized the effect of the sensor placement geometry on the localization accuracy.
The paper presents research for the established experiment environment of multi vehicle robot, localization algorithm that is based on vehicle control, and path tracking. The established experiment environment consists of ultrasonic positioning system, vehicle robot, server and wireless module. Ultrasonic positioning system measures positioning for using ultrasonic sensor and generates many errors because of the influence of environment such as a reflection of wall. For a solution of this fact, localization algorithm is proposed to determine a location using vehicle kinematics and selection of a reliable location data. And path tracking algorithm is proposed to apply localization algorithm and LOS, finally, that algorithms are verified via simulation and experimental
This paper presents a novel EKF(Extended Kalman Filter) based SLAM(Simultaneous Localization And Mapping) system for stable camera tracking and re-localization. The obtained 3D points by SLAM are triangulated using Delaunay triangulation to establish a reference plane, and features are described by BRISK(Binary Robust Invariant Scalable Keypoints). The proposed method estimates the camera parameters from the homography of the reference plane when the tracking errors of EKF SLAM are much accumulated. Using the robust descriptors over sequence enables us to re-localize the camera position for matching over sequence even though the camera is moved abruptly.

In military operations, an accurate localization system is required to navigate soldiers to their destinations, even in non-GPS environments. The global positioning system is a commonly used localization method, but it is difficult to maintain the robustness of GPS-based localization against jamming of signals. In addition, GPS-based localization cannot provide important terrain information such as obstacles. With the widespread use of embedded sensors, sensor-based pedestrian tracking schemes have become an attractive option. However, because of noisy sensor readings, pedestrian tracking systems using motion sensors have a major drawback in that errors in the estimated displacement accumulate over time. We present a group-based standalone system that creates terrain maps automatically while also locating soldiers in mountainous terrain. The system estimates landmarks using inertial sensors and utilizes split group information to improve the robustness of map construction. The evaluation shows that our system successfully corrected and combined the drift error of the system localization without infrastructure.

In this paper, we propose a high accurate geo-location system based on a single base station, where its location is obtained by Time-of-Arrival(ToA) and Direction-of-Arrival(DoA) of the radio signal. For estimating accurate ToA and DoA information, a MUltiple SIgnal Classification(MUSIC) is adopted. However, the estimation of ToA and DoA using MUSIC algorithm is a time-consuming process. The position tracking bias is occurred by the time delay caused by the estimation process. In order to mitigate the bias error, we propose the estimation method of the position tracking bias and compensate the location error produced by the time delay using the position tracking bias mitigation. For accurate self-localization of mobile robot, the Unscented Kalman Filter(UKF) with position tracking bias is applied. The simulation results show the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed geo-location system and the enhanced performance when the Unscented Kalman Filter is adopted for mobile robot application.

This paper proposes a method of localization of vehicle especially the horizontal position for the purpose of recognizing the driving lane. Through tracking road signs, the relative position between the vehicle and the sign is calculated and the absolute position is obtained using the known information from the regulation for installation. The proposed method uses Kalman filter for road sign tracking and analyzes the motion using the pinhole camera model. In order to classify the road sign, ORB(Oriented fast and Rotated BRIEF) features from the input image and DB are matched. From the absolute position of the vehicle, the driving lane is recognized. The Experiments are performed on videos from the highway driving and the results shows that the proposed method is able to compensate the common GPS localization errors.

An Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU)-based Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) can calculate attitude and heading information with long-term accuracy and stability by combining gyro, accelerometer, and magnetic compass signals. Motivated by this characteristic of the AHRS, this paper presents a Motion-Tracking and Localization (MTL) method for a person or walking robot using multi-AHRSs. Five AHRSs are attached to the two calves, two thighs, and waist of a person/walking robot. Joints, links, and coordinate frames are defined on the body. The outputs of the AHRSs are integrated with link data. In addition, a supporting foot is distinguished from a moving foot. With this information, the locations of the joints on the local coordinate frame are calculated. The experimental results show that the presented MTL method can track the motion of and localize a person/walking robot with long-term accuracy in an infra-less environment.

Motion tracking and localization devices are an important building block of motion tracking systems in a virtual reality (VR) environment. This study is about improving the accuracy of motion and location for enhancing user immersion in experience type VR environment to position tracking technique. In this study, we propose and test a design of such a device. The module data test of the attitude and heading reference system shows that the implementation with the MPU-9250 sensor is successful and adequate to be used with short operation time. We consider various sensor hardware dependencies of VR, and compare various correction methods and filtering methods to lower the motion to photon (MTP) time that user movement is fully reflected on the display using sensor devices. The Kalman filter is used to combine the accelerometer with the gyroscope in the sensing unit.
Augmented reality (AR) has tremendous potential in visualizing geospatial information, especially on the actual physical scenes. However, to utilize augmented reality in mobile system, many researches have undergone with GPS or ubiquitous marker based approaches. Although there are several papers written with vision based markerless tracking, previous approaches provide fairly good results only in largely under "controlled environments." Localization and tracking of current position become more complex problem when it is used in indoor environments. Many proposed Radio Frequency (RF) based tracking and localization. However, it does cause deployment problems of large RF-based sensors and readers. In this paper, we present a noble markerless AR approach for indoor (possible outdoor, too) navigation system only using monoSLAM (Monocular Simultaneous Localization and Map building) algorithm to full-fill our grand effort to develop mobile seamless indoor/outdoor u-GIS system. The paper briefly explains the basic SLAM algorithm, then the implementation of our system.

The passive direction finding cross localization method is widely adopted in passive tracking, therefore there will exist masses of false intersection points. Eliminating these false intersection points correctly and quickly is a key technique in passive localization. A new method is proposed for passive locating and tracking multi-jammer target in this paper. It not only solves the difficulty of determining the number of targets when masses of false intersection points existing, but also solves the initialization problem of elastic network. Thus this method solves the problem of multi-jammer target correlation and the elimination of static false intersection points. The method which dynamically establishes multiple hypothesis trajectory trees solves the problem of eliminating the remaining false intersection points. Simulation results show that computational burden of the method is lower, the elastic network can more quickly find all or most of the targets and have a more probability of locking the real targets. This method can eliminate more false intersection points.
