The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors influence the outbuying behavior of the consumers reside in middle sized cities adjacent to Kwangju. a metropolitan city of Korea. Data were collected by using questionnaire from 570 female consumers in Suncheon and Yeosu city from 8 September to 16. 1999. Data from 513 respondents were analyzed. Factor analysis. t-text. $x^2$test and cross analysis were used. Respondents were divided by two groups, outbuying group/resident purchasing group, based on the frequency of purchasing and intention of purchasing in local stores. and the differences between two groups were analyzed. The results were as follows : 1. There were significant differences in the residence. levels of education and Income. age. job. automobile possession, numbers of children, clothing expenditure Per month between outbuying group and resident purchasing group(p<.001, respectively) . 2. Outbuying group had significant higher tendency toward pursuing fashionability and pleasure, and symbolism in clothing than resident purchasing group(p<.001. respectively) 3. Outbuying group considered store services. assortments. shopping convenience significantly more important than resident purchasing group(p<.001. respectively) 4. Outbuying group obtained information from media sources and non-media sources significantly more often than resident purchasing group(p<.001, respectively) .
Purpose - This study was carried out to analyze the influential factors of how consumers methodize purchasing agricultural products via direct market. It further utilizes the Discrete Choice Model to analyze consumer decision specifically with regards to individual markets and store attributes. Research design and methodology - This study will use the multinomial logit model to interpret the influential factors behind selecting a specific market to purchase from. This study establishes 'online direct-purchase' as the base category with 'direct farm markets', 'local foods direct markets', 'produce boxes (CSA)' as substitutes. Results - Firstly, the variety of products, price and freshness had a positive influence on choosing 'direct farm markets' while convenience of payment and transportation had a negative influence. Second, freshness and store attributes had a positive influence on choosing 'local foods direct markets' but product price and packaging, location accessibility had a negative influence. And although product creditability had a positive influence on purchasing 'produce boxes (CSA)', product price had a negative influence. Conclusions - Accordingly, there is a need for the South Korean government to encourage the adoption of mobile payment through smartphone applications in direct farm markets to vitalize direct agricultural purchasing. However, this does need to be approached cautiously as price has a conflicting affect for each method of purchase.
There are about 1,500 small or large traditional markets in Korea. Those conventional markets have been struggling for survival in rapidly changing market environment with highly intensified competition by accelerating the entrance of the Large-scale Discount Store and Super Supermarket which are managed and supported by Large companies like Samsung and Lotte. The loosing power of conventional markets have threatened the local merchants' survival and have influenced local economics falling down. To create better value for the customers who have more preference for department store and discount stores than conventional markets, conventional markets should have market orientation, which has three sub dimensions; customer orientation, competitor orientation and inter-functional coordinations. First objective of study is to find the appropriate roles of conventional markets in local areas. Second is to find out the market orientation functions for conventional markets to be survival in local markets in the long terms. Finally, this study will suggest some policies for the appropriate types of successful conventional markets considering various local situations. To achieve those objectives, we did the following procedure. First, we review the previous reports and studies of policies for conventional markets and local economy development, and propose some pros and cons of the previous policies. Secondly, we develop a market orientation framework of conventional markets, in which we suggest the developmental types and functions of market-orientation of conventional markets in accordance with the characteristics of local market and economic conditions of local areas. Then we formulate and discuss the study's contributions, managerial implications, and directions for future policy development. Especially for the policy development, we suggest the efficiency and economical effects of policy, human being development and management system, and the role of government and protection of local merchants in the development process.

Signboard plays a pivotal role in crafting the initial impression of a storefront and contributing to the overall aesthetics of the local environment. Since 2012, the South Korean government has been annually implementing signboard improvement projects as part of its commitment to enhance urban landscapes and invigorate local business districts. Particularly noteworthy in recent years is the government's emphasis on creating signborad that aligns with the characteristics of the cities. This study aimed to investigate the impact on stores and the local area when incorporating local characteristics into signboard, with a focus on the mediating roles of informativeness, entertainment, and irritation. A survey was conducted among 150 undergraduate and graduate students who had experience visiting areas with improved signboard. The findings indicate that local fit of signboards has a positive impact on intention to visit store and area by mediating informativeness and entertainment. On the other hand, irritation does not exert a significant influence within this structural relationship. The results of this study contribute to broadening the scholarly understanding of signboards and signboard improvement, highlighting the importance of incorporating local characteristics into signboard to small business owners and local government practitioners.
The purpose of the study was to injury types in Daegu subway fire accident, Sampung department store collapse, Mokpo airport civil aircraft accident, and Buan sunken ship disaster. The conclusion obtained from these analyses are as following. 1. The total of victims were Sampung department store collapse(l440 people). Buan sunken ship disaster(355 people), Daegu subway fire accident(340 people), and Mokpo airport civil aircraft accident(110 people). 2. The total of dead people were Sampung department store collapse(502 people), Buan sunken ship disaster(287 people), Daegu subway fire accident(192 people), and Mokpa airport civil aircraft accident(66 people). 3. The total of injured people were Sampung department store collapse(938 people), Daegu subway fire accident(148 people), Mokpo airport civil aircraft accident(84 people), and Buan sunken ship disaster(67 people). 4. The major types of victims presented smoke inhalation such as coughing, dyspnea, and sore throat in Daegu subway fire accident. 5. The major types of victims presented crushing(multiple fractures), vertebral, and soft tissues injuries in Sampung department store collapse. 6. The major types of victims presented multiple fractures. In addition to, a lot of people showed vertebral injuries and shock symptoms in Mokpo airport civil aircraft accident. 7. The major types of victims presented drowning as well lots of hypothermia patients in Buan sunken ship disaster. There were a wide variety of types in human disaster. Therefore, the most important disaster training program need to each disaster aspect in the local emergency medical services system. Moreover, the emergency medical services personnel should be understand and training for injury types of each human disaster.
Purpose - This paper attempts to identify the problems and limitations of a market maintenance project conducted according to the 「Special Act for the Development of Traditional Markets and Shopping Street」 and to present a revised direction for the special law and lay the groundwork for market maintenance projects to be promoted smoothly. Research design, data, and methodology - The revised direction for the legislation and the proposal were written based on an investigation of the problems and the legal system, and proposed measures for market maintenance operation and system improvements to derive the improvements needed for market maintenance projects. Results - A market maintenance project has been conducted as a means to reinvigorate traditional markets that are economically depressed, and to revive the local economy. It was largely conducted in the form of reconstruction and redevelopment and represents the interests of landowners and merchants. Thus, it is most likely to contribute to the gradual disappearance of traditional markets. First, as part of a market maintenance project, many companies are building multipurpose buildings or high-rise residential buildings to increase profits. In these high-rise buildings, they can raise rents, which may not be affordable for some existing small businesses. To solve such problems, the large-scale store registration requirement needs to be relaxed or abolished once the market maintenance project is completed. If the large-scale store registration requirement is to be abolished, the term 'large retail store' should be changed in the 「Special Act for the Development of Traditional Markets and Shopping Street」. After registration, the Small and Medium Business Administration should train merchants, offer consultations, and support events, to the extent that the existing traditional market management modernization project permits, and further continue to manage and support its ongoing activities. However, unless large-scale store registration is abolished, adding an exception clause in the special law to relax large-scale store registration criteria, and permitting changes to building use is another option. At the end of a market maintenance project, empty stores should be purchased by the Small and Medium Business Administration, and local government, etc., at the actual construction cost, to utilize them as public rental shopping areas, which in turn may be re-utilized as a temporary market for another market maintenance project. The second problem in market maintenance projects is merchant-protection. Currently, the special law prescribes that a temporary market be created for merchants to conduct business during the rental period of a market maintenance project. Conclusions - In reality, a market maintenance project is conducted usually in big metropolitan cities with 500,000 residents or more. The main building type created under these projects is a multipurpose building. For this reason, it is very difficult to secure a location for a temporary market in the surrounding area of such a project. To solve this problem, this study suggests 'public rental shopping areas' as mentioned above.
Conceptualization of store image have been suggested in the past by many marketing scholars. The dominant perspective about store image is treated as the results of a multi-attribute model. Store image is expressed as a function of the salient attributes of a particular store that are evaluated. Though, there is a little confusions about what elements compose the store image, most scholars agree that merchandise, service, atmosphere, physical facilities, comfort, and location are generally accepted elements as store image. A considerable researches support that shopping can provide both hedonic and utilitarian value. Hedonic shopping value reflects the value received from fantasy and emotive aspects of shopping experience, while utilitarian shopping value reflects the acquisition of products. These two types of shopping value can affect shopping satisfaction. This study examines the relationships among stores images(store atmosphere, salespeople services, facilities, product assortment, and store location), shopping values(utilitarian shopping value and hedonic shopping value), and shopping satisfaction based on discount stores (E-Mart, Home plus, and Lotte Mart). The author hypothesized that five store image components affect shopping values, and these shopping values affect shopping satisfaction. The author focused on the roles of perceived retail crowding between these relationships. Specifically, the author hypothesized that perceived retailing crowding moderated the relationship between shopping values and shopping satisfaction. The author also hypothesized the direct effect of perceived retail crowding on shopping satisfaction. Purpose - This study aims to investigate the process of political changes in Japan, which has introduced regulatory policies for large-scale retail stores since the 1930s, as well as the examples, and suggests improvement schemes for our policies in Korea, which imposes restrictions on business hours and forced holidays in accordance with the current Distribution Industry Development Act. Research design, data, and methodology - After examining the political change processes related to large-scale retail stores in japan, this study analyzes individually regulated cases based on the ordinances enacted by each local government. Through case analysis in Japan, this study makes political suggestions that may be helpful for our country substantially. Results - Since there is an obvious possibility that our economic restrictions on business hours and mandatory holidays do not coincide with WTO GATS, it is necessary for large-scale distributors to introduce new social and environmental regulations similar to Japan, rather than imposing controls to restrict free competition and also introduce a policy to induce cooperation with small businesses for the advancement of the distribution industry. Thus, it is desirable to take measures on noise, waste, traffic, and parking for the preservation of the living environment in the surroundings when building new large-scale retail stores. It is also important to establish measures to improve the welfare of neighborhood residents and consumers, create a pleasant urban environment, and make it mandatory to make presentations at public hearings among residents. Furthermore, it should be mandatory to establish regional contribution plans when a retail store is established, and take measures to solve various civil complaints or problems that may occur after entering the market. Moreover, it is desirable for large-scale retail stores that entered the market to induce cooperation in performing various activities in the area with a strong sense that they are all members of the local economy. Conclusions - If introducing social regulations like in Japan, there is probably an advantage that the conflicts seen when large-scale retail stores enter the market are absorbed by adjusting the persons concerned within the established institution in order to establish a field to solve such conflicts systematically. In contrast, there are still concerns regarding chaotic operation without any active attempts to have a conversation with large-scale retail stores and local small merchants due to a sharp conflict among the persons concerned, and if it is a briefing session without any decision of the restrictions on their opening itself, there may be doubts with regard to their effectiveness. Moreover, if the de facto opening is restricted by the introduction of such a briefing session procedure, the choice of whether to protect the existing rights of large-scale retail stores might become problematic. However, such problems could be minimized in a way by forming a separate consultative group for all persons concerned including residents, local governments, professionals, civic organizations, small merchants, and massive retail store-related persons.

In this paper, we present a new video management technique using forward timeline to efficiently store and delete the videos on a local server. The proposed method is based on capturing the changing preference of the videos according to recentness, frequency, and playback length of the requested videos. For this purpose, we utilize the forward timeline which represents the time area within a number of predefined intervals. The local server periodically measures time popularity and request segment of all videos. Based on the measured data, time popularity and request segment, the local server calculates the mean time popularity and mean request segment of a video using forward timeline. Using mean time popularity and mean request segment of video, we estimate the ranking and allocated storage space of a video. The ranking represents the priority of deletion when the storage area of local server is running out of space and the allocated storage space means the maximum size of storage space to be allocated to a video. In addition, we propose an efficient storage space partitioning technique in order to stably store videos and present a time based free-up storage space technique using the expected variation of video data in order for avoiding the overflow on a local server in advance. The simulation results show that the proposed method performs better than other methods in terms of hit rate and number of deletion. Therefore, our video management technique for local server provides the lowest user start-up latency and the highest bandwidth saving significantly.
Purpose - The purpose of the study was to seek to find out what factors having differences between paid membership customers (Costco membership) and general customers in retail industry. Since Costco operates differently from other conventional retailers, which is expected to have a substantial impact on consumers' preference of retail stores. Research design, data, and methodology - The survey conducted covered 1,000 adults in their 30s~50s living in Goyang and Gwangmyeong where Costco runs stores to determine the effects of Costco's local market-entry from consumer perspectives. 500 respondents were surveyed in each region and those working in the retail sector were excluded to ensure the objectivity of the answers. Results - Costco members in Goyang considered the price, bulk purchasing, and membership benefits as important criteria when choosing their retail store. On the other hand, as for Gwangmyeong, the non-member group's prominent characteristic was that they considered accessibility including travel distance and location and in-store amenities including food court services as important criteria for decision-making. Conclusion - Unique business model of Costco shows a statistically significant difference in terms of consumer awareness. the feature of Costco served as an critical criteria for consumers in their purchasing decision. Moreover, Bulk packaging purchases at Costco results in a strong supplementary relationship with neighborhood supermarkets.
