Over the years, cultural mapping methods have been used in several applications and contexts, for diverse cultural assets and to create new conditions for the development of local and regional resources. These methods were inspired by the development of big urban centres and regions, which have been the great engine of cultural mapping growth. The main objectives of the present paper are to provide a literature review on cultural mapping methodologies and to develop exploratory research on crowdsource tools on creative tourism which were applied to one Portuguese municipality in 2017. The research was supported by the implementation and integration of geographic information systems (GIS) and web mapping, which will become part of the solution for the growth of less developed territories and to make more interactive tourist activities. Web mapping's contribution to enhance crowd participation was measured via analysis of 12 digital photos shared through crowdsourcing. The originality of this research lies in the attempt to develop a new model for creative tourism, trying to extend the implementation of Web Mapping crowdsourcing to deprived low density territories. Results show how public participation can be amplified for the tourism market by crowdsourcing tools. These tools look very promising since they can help several members of the public at different ages to contribute to territorial knowledge, engage in activities, and collaborate through digital tools. It is a step to fulfil the lack of studies in this subject and it contributes to the way we think about future studies.
In the semistructured distributed documents, it is very difficult to formalize and implement the query processing system due to the lack of structure and rule of the data. In order to precisely retrieve and process the heterogeneous semistructured documents, it is required to handle multiple mappings such as 1:1, 1:W and W:1 on an element simultaneously and to generate the schema from the distributed documents. In this paper, we have proposed an query processing algorithm for querying and answering on the heterogeneous semistructured data or documents over distributed systems and implemented with a metadata interface. The algorithm for generating local queries from the global query consists of mapping between g1oba1 and local nodes, data transformation according to the mapping types, path substitution, and resolving the heterogeneity among nodes on a global input query with metadata information. The mapping, transformation, and path substitution algorithms between the global schema and the local schemas have been implemented the metadata interface called DBXMI (for Distributed Documents XML Metadata Interface). The nodes with the same node name and different mapping or meanings is resolved by automatically extracting node identification information from the local schema automatically. The system uses Quilt as its XML query language. An experiment testing is reported over 3 different OEM model semistructured restaurant documents. The prototype system is developed under Windows system with Java and JavaCC compiler.
Various geological thematic maps have been generated by interpolating sparsely sampled ground survey data and geostatistical kriging that can consider spatial correlation between neighboring data has widely been used. This paper applies multi-variate geostatistical algorithms to integrate secondary information with sparsely sampled ground survey data for geological thematic mapping. Simple kriging with local means and kriging with an external drift are applied among several multi-variate geostatistical algorithms. Two case studies for spatial mapping of groundwater level and grain size have been carried out to illustrate the effectiveness of multi-variate geostatistical algorithms. A digital elevation model and IKONOS remote sensing imagery were used as secondary information in two case studies. Two multi-variate geostatistical algorithms, which can account for both spatial correlation of neighboring data and secondary data, showed smaller prediction errors and more local variations than those of ordinary kriging and linear regression. The benefit of applying the multi-variate geostatistical algorithms, however, depends on sampling density, magnitudes of correlation between primary and secondary data, and spatial correlation of primary data. As a result, the experiment for spatial mapping of grain size in which the effects of those factors were dominant showed that the effect of using the secondary data was relatively small than the experiment for spatial mapping of groundwater level.
Parameterization has been one of very important research subjects in several application areas including computer graphics. In the parameterization research, the problem of mapping 3D polygonal model to 2D plane has been studied frequently, but the previous methods often fail to handle complicated shapes of polygonal surfaces effectively as well as entail distortion between the 3D and 2D spaces. Several attempts have been made especially to reduce such distortion, but they often suffer from the problem when an arbitrary rectangular surface region on 3D model is locally parameterized. In this paper, we propose a new local parameterization scheme based on the projection level set method. This technique generates a series of equi-distanced curves on the surface region of interest, which are then used to generate effective local parameterization information. In this paper, we explain the new technique in detail and show its effectiveness by demonstrating experimental results.
We are developing a hazard map creation support system for historical local towns. Our system aims at collecting the unique information received from residents and raising resident's consciousness to disasters by recording hazardous locations where residents feel danger in case of disasters. In this paper, we examine the hazard information of the area collected by the residents themselves in using the system. While exchanging opinions, the residents review the validity and completeness of the information gathered by walking around the area. We also consider how to integrate and share it throughout the region. We found that it was possible to gather regional hazard information from the viewpoint of residents in addition to high coverage for each district. Also, by sharing information at the review meeting, the residents were able to newly know the hazard information of other districts that they did not know before. This shows the usefulness of residents to share the dangerous information while examining each cause across the different districts.

In this study, the rock mass classification results from the face mapping and the resistivity inversion data are compared and analyzed for the reliability investigation of the determination of the rock support type based on the surface electrical survey. To get the quantitative correlation, rock engineering indices such as RCR(rock condition rating), N(Rock mass number), Q-system based on RMR(rock mass rating) are calculated. Kriging method as a post processing technique for global optimization is used to improve its resolution. The result of correlation analysis shows that the geological condition estimated from 2D electrical resistivity survey is coincident globally with the trend of rock type except for a few local areas. The correlation between the results of 3D electrical resistivity survey and the rock mass classification turns out to be very high. It can be concluded that 3D electrical resistivity survey is powerful to set up the reliable rock support type.

A comprehensive thermo-electromagnetic model has been developed to estimate temperature and electromagnetic distribution in an three-phase induction motor under steady state operation. Electromagnetic modeling enables us to predict thermal dissipation rates by eddy-current loss and copper loss in induction motors. Non-uniform temperature distributions are investigated to account for the strong effect of local temperature build-up on the motor performance and expected life-span. For more accurate thermal modeling purpose, Heat loss mapping method, which is matched up with electromagnetic losses and volumetric heat source, is developed and performed analysis. Heat loss mapping method can be greatly used as a design or diagnostic tool for three-phase induction motors with complex structural electromagnetic fields.
Computer assisted cardiac mapping system has made it possible to display local activation times of the heart using a simultaneous multi-point data aquisition system, and opened an era in electrophyslology guided cardiac arrhythmia surgery especially in ventricular tachycardia. In this study, we have developed a 64 channel computerized cardiacmapping system us:ng a micro-computer for basic reasearch of electrophysiology and electrical propagation in cardiac arrhythmias. The significant tasks of this study were the simultaneous acquisition of large amount of data from 64 sites, accurate and rapid analysis, and the effective display of the analyzed data. To solve these problems, we made a 64 channel signal pre-processing board in order to amplify and fitter the raw signals. And we developed the soflu'are Yor cardiac isochronous mapping whictl is presented immediately ama computer-generated graphics. This system is expected 4o enable us to study pathophyslology of cardiac arrhythmia and to improve the results of diagnosis and surgical treatments for cardiac arrhythmia.

High dynamic range (HDR) images can present the perfect real scene and rich color information. A commonly encountered problem in practical applications is how to well visualize HDR images on standard display devices. In this paper, we propose a multi-scale decomposition method using guided filtering for HDR image tone mapping. In our algorithm, HDR images are directly decomposed into three layers:base layer, coarse scale detail layer and fine detail layer. We propose an effective function to compress the base layer and the coarse scale detail layer. An adaptive function is also proposed for detail adjustment. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm effectively accomplishes dynamic range compression and maintains good global contrast as well as local contrast. It also presents more image details and keeps high color saturation.

Object-oriented analysis-synthesis coding subdivides each image of a sequence into moving objects and compensates the motion of each object. Thus it can reconstruct real motion better than conventional motion-compensated coding techniques at very-low-bit-rates. It uses a mapping parameter technique for estimating motion information of each object. Since a mapping parameter technique uses gradient operators it is sensitive to redundant details and noise. To accurately determine mapping parameters, we propose a new analysis method using integral projections for estimation of gradient values. Also to reconstruct correctly the local motion the proposed algorithm divides an image into segmented objects each of which having uniform motion information while the conventional one assumes a large object having the same motion information. Computer simulation results with several test sequences show that the proposed image analysis method in object-oriented analysis-synthesis coding shows better performance than the conventional one.
