Laminar Convective Heat Transfer from a Horizontal Flat Plate of Phase Change Material Slurry Flow

  • This paper presents the theory of similarity transformations applied to the momentum and energy equations for laminar, forced, external boundary layer flow over a horizontal flat plate which leads to a set of non-linear, ordinary differential equations of phase change material slurry(PCM Slurry). The momentum and energy equation set numerically to obtain the non-dimensional velocity and temperature profiles in a laminar boundary layer are solved. The heat transfer characteristics of PCM slurry was numerically investigated with similar method. It is clarified that the similar solution method of Newtonian fluid can be used reasonably this type of PCM slurry which has low concentration. The data of local wall heat flux and convective heat transfer coefficient of PCM slurry are higher than those of water more than 150$\~$200$\%$, approximately.

  • This paper considers the influence of circumferential wall heat conduction for the case of forced convection around a circular cylinder in cross flow of air. Keeping uniform heat generation from the inner surface of the cylinder in radial direction, heat is transferred by wall conduction in the circumferential direction due to the asymmetric nature of the temperature distribution of the cylinder and by convection around the perimeter of the cylinder. The wall conduction depends on conductivity of the cylinder and size of the cylinder radius and thickness and affects the local convective heat transfer rate significantly for geometrically similar surfaces and flow conditions. A nondimensional conjugation parameter K. (=k$_t$R/k$_w$b) has been used to characterize the effect of the circumferntial wall heat conduction. The small values of conjugation parameter K are found to be associated with large effect of wall conduction on the local convective heat transfer rate.

수평 직사각 덕트 내 임계점 부근 물의 대류열전달 특성 (Convective Heat Transfer to Water near the Critical Region in Horizontal Rectangular Ducts)

  • 수평 덕트 내 임계점부근의 유체 유동 및 열전달특성은 중력과 함께 임계영역에서의 열역학 및 전달 물성치의 많은 변화와 직접적으로 연관되어 있다. 본 연구에서는 수평 직사각 덕트 내 임계점부근의 물에 대한 대류열전달특성을 전산해석을 통하여 분석하였다. 이를 통해 국부적인 열전달계수와 유속, 온도, 그리고 물성치분포를 포함한 대류열전달특성에 대해 임계점 근접효과와 함께 비교하였다. 벽으로부터의 열전달에 따른 유체 밀도감소로 덕트 내 유동방향으로의 유속증가와 함께 유체가 액체에서 기체 같은 상태로 천이하는 형태의 유동장특성을 보여준다. 덕트의 윗면, 옆면, 그리고 아래면 각각의 국부적인 열전달계수분포에 큰 차이가 있으며 준임계점 온도부근에서 난류전달특성의 향상으로 열전달계수의 최대치에 이르게 된다. Nu 수는 덕트 내 압력과 종횡비에 영향을 받으며 임계압에 가까워질수록 최대 Nu 수는 급격히 증가하게 된다. 이와 함께 기존의 열전달상관식을 통한 결과와 예측된 Nu 수 분포를 비교하였다.

  • Numerical analysis has been carried out to investigate air-side convective heat transfer characteristics in compact heat exchangers with continuous plate fins. Simulation results such as air flow and temperature distributions are presented, and heat transfer characteristics are compared for various inlet conditions. Results from various turbulence models are also compared for applicability. There is large difference between the local heat transfer coefficient distributions along the cylinder wall for circular tubes. Colburn j factors from the calculated results of circular and flat tubes in the heat exchangers are compared for various Reynolds number. The predicted results in this study can be applied to the optimal design of air conditioning system. with compact heat exchanger.

튜브배열 방향과 수직한 유동에 의한 관외 대류 열전달 (The Convective Heat Transfer for the Flow Perpendicular to the Tube Array)

  • The convective heat transfer on the outer surface of tube arrays perpendicular to the flow direction was experimentally investigated. The test sections which include the aligned and staggered arrangements were made and the local heat transfer coefficients on the outer surface of the tube were measured after the flow has been fully developed. The results showed that the local heat transfer coefficients of the staggered arrangement, which has transverse pitch of 0.075 m and longitudinal pitch of 0.08 m, were about 15% greater than that of the aligned arrangement. Also, the overall mean Nusselt number of the former was greater than that of the latter. It is verified that the results obtained by using the simulation show the same tendency with those of experiment.

  • With circular tube heated directly or indirectly placed in a cross flow, heat flows circumferentially by conduction due to the asymmetric nature of the fluid flow around the perimeter of the circular tube. The circumferential heat flow affects the wall temperature distribution to such an extent that in some cases. The effects of circumferential wall heat conduction on local convective heat transfer is investigated. The wall heat conduction parameter which can be deduced from the governing energy equation should be used to express the effect of circumferential heat conduction. Two-dimensional temperature distribution is presented through the numerical analysis. The comparison of one-dimensional and two-dimensional solutions is demonstrated on graph of local Nusselt numbers.

  • This study is to analyze the local convective heat transfer for a circular cylinder with annular fins. The relation between wall heat transfer and three-dimensional flow is investigated for different distances of annular fins. Depending on the fin spacing, the flow structure is strongly changed by the variation of horseshoe vortices. As the fin spacing increases, the heat transfer rate is maximized at a certain condition. This is clearly obtained as the Reynolds number increases, and it is closely related to the development of horseshoe vortices.

  • The heat transfer characteristics for air jet vertically impinging on a flat plate which had a set of hybrid rod were investigated experimentally. The rod had a cross section made with a half of circular cross section and that of rectangular and was installed in front of the plate. The heating surface was given constant heat flux value of 1020 W/$m^2^{\circ]C$ and the problem parameters investigated were jet Reynolds number, nozzle-to-plate spacing and the rod size. The local and local average Nusselt number characteristics were found to be dependent on the rod size because the flow was disturbed by installing the rod. Higher convective heat transfer rate occurred in the whole plate as well as in the stagnation region.

유동형태 변화가 배관 곡관부 대류열전달에 미치는 영향 (Effects of the Changes in Flow Pattern on Convective Heat Transfer in the Vicinity of Pipe Elbow)

  • 본 연구에서는 배관 곡관부의 유동가속부식을 일으키는 인자 중 수력학적 인자인 유동형태 변경에 따른 영향을 분석하고 부식을 저감시키는 연구를 추진하였다. 열전달과 물질전달, 물질전달과 유동가속부식의 상사성에 대해 이론적 분석을 통해 확인하고 상용 수치해석 프로그램을 이용하여 국소대류열전달계수를 해석함으로써 곡관부의 물질전달 특성에 대해 고찰하였다. 곡관부 상류의 직관부 내표면 안쪽과 바깥쪽에 요철을 설치하였을 때 최대 국소열전달계수는 기본유동에 비하여 현저히 감소하여 요철의 위치와 형태에 따라 차이가 있으나 24.9%까지 감소함을 확인하였으며, 곡관부 상류의 직관부에 가인드 베인을 삽입하면 가이드 베인에 의한 배관 내측면적 크기에 따라 차이가 있으나 최대 국소열전달계수가 기본유동에 비해 12.5%까지 감소함을 확인하였다.

비비등 선회유동에서의 2상 대류열전달 증가 (Two phase convective heat transfer augmentation in swirl flow with non-boiling)

  • Two phase flow phenomena are observed in many industrial facilities and make much importance of optimum design for nuclear power plant and various heat exchangers. This experimental study has been investigated the classification of the flow pattern, the local void distribution and convective heat transfer in swirl and non-swirl two phase flow under the isothermal and nonisothermal conditions. The convective heat transfer coefficients in the single phase water flow were measured and compared with the calculated results from the Sieder-Tate correlation. These coefficients were used for comparisons with the two-phase heat transfer coefficients in the flow orientations. The experimental results indicate, that the void probe signal and probability density function of void distribution can used into classify the flow patterns, no significant difference in voidage distribution was observed between isothermal and non-isothermal condition in non-swirl flow, the values of two phase heat transfer coefficients increase when superficial air velocities increase, and the enhancement of the values is observed to be most pronounced at the highest superficial water velocity in non-swirl flow. Also two phase heat transfer coefficients in swirl flow are increased when the twist ratios are decreased.
